Wave Hairstyles

Go from straight to wavy without a professional stylist.

According to celebrity hairstylist Chris McMillan, wavy hair works for formal and casual occasions, and most hair textures can achieve this hairstyle. Moreover, it does not require as high maintenance as straight hair. Simply let it down for a voluminous and healthy-looking do. With the right techniques and know-how, you can become your own stylist.

Long Hair

Style your waves with the right mix of products to achieve hair fit for a rocker. To keep the volume of your hair, start off with a dry shampoo. This also helps get rid of any greasiness. Then, work a texture balm through the hair using your hands. This will help set your waves in clusters to achieve a more pronounced look.

Finish off the look by flipping your hair upside down. Apply some hairspray, just enough to create volume. Too much hairspray can make your hair look sloppy. Pay attention to the crown of the hair since volume is most evident in this area.

Short Hair

A short bob accentuates your face, and shows off the natural waves and color of your hair. Achieve sexy hair by getting a chin length bob without bangs. Add a few layers to make styling easier and let the waves show.

To style your wavy bob, mix equal parts of gel and conditioner. Apply the mixture onto damp hair. You can let it air dry or use a diffuser. You can also try to use claw attachments to facilitate more definition in your waves.

Medium Length Hair

Medium length hair can be styled by adding long layers around the edges of the hair. This allows soft waves to become more noticeable. This hairstyle is versatile and can go easily from casual to formal.

To style medium length hair, apply mousse to damp hair. Make sure that the product is applied evenly. Part your hair on one side to create a neat appearance. Blow-dry key parts of the hair such as the back and underneath the sides. Finish off the look by applying smoothing shine to your waves.
