Accessorize A Chignon

Accessorize a Chignon

Whether you're wearing it to a formal affair or as a cool hairstyle in the summer, a chignon is an easy and elegant way to keep your hair pulled back. After forming the bun by twisting a ponytail around itself and securing the "knot" at the nape of your neck, accessorize the style with these accents.

Instructions

1. Try a classic look by pushing decorative hair sticks, chopsticks or even pencils through the chignon. Use two and insert one going down from left to right and another from right to left to form a cool crisscross look. Find styles with beads or charms dangling off the end to add motion to your hairstyle.

2. Push bobby pins with jeweled designs like flowers, butterflies or hearts into the chignon so it will look like you've got shimmering shapes sitting on the surface. You can also distribute them around the bun to give it a delicate "frame."

3. Add glamour by carefully affixing a long beaded clip to the area above or below your chignon. Also try adding two identical clips to the sides of the bun for a symmetrical look.

4. Wrap a ribbon that coordinates with your outfit around the chignon. Hold the middle of the ribbon at the top of the bun, pull it downward and tie a bow below the bun. Create another beautiful look by affixing one end of the ribbon to the ponytail holder before you twist your hair into the chignon. Then, as you create the bun, you'll be winding the ribbon around along with your hair.

5. Accessorize the hairstyle by threading real, silk or paper flowers into the chignon. Push the stem into the bun and secure the flower with a small bobby pin.
