Do Flapper Hairstyles

Although the roaring '20s have come and gone, the style of that time remains. The free spirited and liberating tresses made popular by rebellious flappers can easily be replicated for a thoroughly modern look. Even many of today's celebrities wear elegant flapper styles for red carpet events. Two of the most popular flapper hairstyles are the bob and the finger wave. These styles work for both short and long hair.

Instructions

Styling a bob

1. Run a flat iron through your freshly washed and conditioned hair for a smooth texture. Doing this will prep your hair for the next steps and give shape to your bob.

2. Rub a dime-sized amount of pomade through your hair. Use just enough to add shine and hold.

3. Work pomade through your bangs if you have them and then neatly comb them forward.

4. Lightly spritz your hair with hairspray to set your flapper style. Use a light hold spray so that your hair will have both control and movement.

5. Place bobby pins discreetly in any areas you desire to lie flat. Bobby pins were actually created for bob hairstyles, so now would be a great time to use them.

6. Make a deep part with your comb.

7. Rub a small handful of pomade through your hair. It's best to use a strong hold or waxy pomade for more control.

8. Separate your hair into three to four horizontal sections from your forehead to the nape of your neck.

9. Take the first section and gently but firmly comb your hair, making mini "S" shapes as you go. Repeat through each section and set shapes with bobby pins.

10. Remove bobby pins carefully and finish with hairspray to hold your style. .

14. Spray with a firm hold hairspray and let set.

16. Curl your ends under with a curling iron for added definition.
