Sweet Sixteen Hairstyles

Glamorous hairstyles make 16-year-olds feel grown-up.

The sweet 16 milestone is a time when girls want to look their best and wow their friends. Whether you are planning a formal party or a party at home with a few close friends, a glamorous hairstyle will set the tone for a memorable night. Accessorize the style with jewels, cute clips or flowers, and be sure to take plenty of pictures to preserve your special night.

Cascading Curls

Cascading curls are flattering on almost anyone, but especially on people who typically have straight hair. Curls add soft body and can be worn down for a casual, dramatic style that goes equally well with formal wear or jeans and a t-shirt. Create cascading curls at home with curlers or a curling iron, or go to a salon for more sculpted curls. Use some barrettes on either side to sweep curls from your face.

Elegant Up-Do

An elegant, swept back up-do pulls hair away from your face for a fresh, grown-up look that complements dramatic dresses. Add a tiara for some sparkle and a ballerina-like coif, or tuck in some delicate flowers for some natural beauty. Up-dos expose ears and work well with long chandelier earrings or simple pearls.

Messy Up-Do

Messy up-do's were 2010 runway sensations and are easy to create at home for an edgy, club look that complements smoky eyes and glossy lips. Start by teasing hair from the roots for extra body. If you have long hair, use two hair sticks to secure a loose bun, or use bobby pins to secure chunks of hair in wrapped layers. If your hair is shorter, you may need some mousse and elastic bands to secure hair in a pony tail before splaying it in a messy bun with bobby pins.
