Alternative Rock
Hairstyles
Alternative rock hairstyles have often been a great way to stand out in a crowd, or fit in at a concert. Though music often requires different hairstyles and many rockers tout starting a certain hair trend, they catch on fast and soon you can't look to your left or right without seeing "faux hawk" or a "scenester" cut.

The "Mohawk" is a hairstyle in which the head is shaved on both sides with a line of hair approximately 2" wide separating the two shaved sides. The hair is then gelled or glued to stand on end and not move.
The "faux hawk" is a style of hair after the Mohawk, which describes a Mohawk for the non-risk-takers. Instead of shaving both sides, the faux hawk hair stylist uses a gel, mousse or paste to move all hair on the sides of the head to a point toward the middle of the head. This is done on those with shorter hairstyles with still enough hair to move. This allows for an easy change of hairstyle for when the "faux hawk" style is out.
A "scenester" hairstyle is one that permanently forms the bang in front, so as to hide the face. The bangs on both men and women are cut at an angle. Some girls wear their hair long, as do some of the guys, and the hair is almost always colored dark brown or black, if not natural. Oftentimes, blondes will add a dark layer underneath. Some scenester hairstylists will cut the back of the hair short, keeping their bangs, and then use a gel or paste to spike the back side of the hair.
The Beatles cut is a hairstyle referring to the famous rock group that touted a bowl-cut type hairstyle, which some call a "floppy." This hair style allows for movement while playing in a band, with some much-achieved dramatic movement for guitar or drum solos.
