Waterfall Curl Hairstyles

There are several methods for styling your hair into waterfall curls.

Waterfall curls are long, loose curls that cascade around your face and fall down your back like a waterfall. Depending on the length of your hair and its natural texture, there are many ways to achieve and wear this romantic style. Experimentation is the best way to know just how best to get your hair to curl.

Hot Rollers

To curl your hair into waterfall curls using hot rollers, you will need medium or large rollers. Separate your hair into triangular sections. The smaller the section of hair, the tighter the curl. Wrap your hair around the hot rollers. You may want to alternate different sizes of hot rollers, perhaps using larger curlers for the back of your head and smaller for the front. After the hot rollers dry, spiral the curls around your finger. Pin curl the curls to you head to allow them to set, which should take about one hour. Make sure to finish with hairspray when you let them down. You may want to curl the very front of your head with a curling iron to avoid overly tight curls at the front.

Pin Curls

Curly hair works on a variety of lengths.

You can either put pin curls in when your hair is damp after a shower, or spritz your hair with a water bottle. Your hair actually holds curl better when it has not been washed that day. Separate your hair into sections. The smaller the sections the tighter the curls. Spray your hair with hairspray. Twist the sections into semi-tight mini buns and pin down with bobby pins. Curls are left in overnight. It is a good idea to tie a scarf or bandanna around your head to protect the pin curls while you are sleeping. Be careful not to pin curl your hair when it is too wet, or it will still be wet in the morning. If they are still damp in the morning you can use a blow dryer. Unpin your hair and loosen the curls either by running your fingers through them or gently brushing. Spray to hold. You may also want to use a anti-frizz spray.

Curling Iron

Curlers are made in several sizes.

After washing your hair or spraying it with a water bottle, blow dry it dry. With your fingers, put an anti-thermal gel or mousse throughout your entire head. Spray (or run through with your fingers) volumizing mousse into the roots of your hair. Separate your hair into sections about as thick as you want your curls to be. Wrap a section of hair around the outside of a hot curling iron until the curling iron is almost at your scalp. Hold for a few seconds, then gently release the section. You might want to do smaller sections in the front to frame your face. Spray to hold. If you have frizz problems, you might also want to use an anti-frizz spray.
