Beaded strands can be handmade using different techniques.
Beading is perhaps the most commonly used method of making jewelry. There are several techniques to making either one-stranded or tiered beaded jewelry. You should use different strategies for threading different types of beads, such as pearls, clay or seed beads. You should also take into account the material you are using to string your beads.
Simple Beading
Perhaps the most simple method of beading is the type with which most people are familiar. You can use this technique with almost any type of bead and beading string. In this method, you simply stick your beading material (whether hemp, metal wire or string) through the pre-drilled hole in the bead. Add as many beads in any color or pattern you wish until it is at an appropriate length to wrap around your wrist or neck. For a tiered necklace, simply thread the beads onto an additional length of material, leaving extra room on either side. This extra length should then be placed through the first three beads on either side and crimped onto the original length.
Beaded Hemp
Hemp is one of the most common materials used by teenagers to create jewelry. This material is also very affordable, making it a prime choice for thrifty students. Beads are added to this material while either braiding or knotting the hemp into a creative design. The beads can be added to the center of the pattern or on either side of a particular knot or braiding piece to create a circle. Add as many beads onto your jewelry as you like until you feel that your pattern is complete.
Bead Weaving
Bead weaving is a more complex method of stringing your beads onto jewelry. These beads are woven together with the beading material to form a beaded fabric of sorts. Embroidery thread or fishing line is best for this technique. It is a time-consuming method that may strain your eyes if you don't use a magnifying glass and bright light. Most often, this technique is created using a special loom to make complex or creative designs that are as much fun to play with as they are to wear.
Pearl Beading
The easiest and fastest method of stringing beads is also perhaps the laziest. Freshwater and other pearl beads most often come pre-strung on wires when you purchase them in the craft stores. For this technique, you simply take a flexible, sturdy material like beading wire or hemp and thread it alongside the wire already in place beside the pearls. Remove the original wire in the opposite direction you strung the pearls in, and your pearls will drop onto your material. Flexible beading needles can also be used if your material is not sturdy.
