The chemicals in perming lotions are made to enter into the hair shaft where it alters the keratin and loosens the inner layer of the hair. This way it can be formed into a new fixed shape. The neutralizer closes the hair into its new shape permanently. According to Hairstyles-haircuts, the spiral perm uses the same chemicals as a regular perm. The big difference is in the winding. The rods used are long and flexible, made to wind the hair in a corkscrew up the rod then bend to fasten.
Instructions
1. Keeping the hair wet will make winding easiler.
Start with clean, wet hair. Have a spray water bottle ready to keep your hair wet until you finish winding. Keep a dry towel around your shoulders.
2. Comb hair. Divide hair into four sections: top, sides and back. Clip up the top and sides out of your way.
3. Clip up the back section, leaving two inches from the top of the neck down. Put in your first three rods starting on the right. You start at the bottom with spiral perms because your rods will be hanging down and would otherwise get in your way.
4. Wrap your first rod by starting on the bottom of the rod. Cover the ends of the hair with the paper provided with your perm. Wind the hair up the rod like a corkscrew. Bend the rod up and fasten to the other end.
5. Section off the next row in the back. You may need to increase the rods to four across. Continue winding until you have finished the back section. If you have long or thick hair you will need to add another row to the back section.
6. Repeat the process with both side sections. Next you will wind the top. Now you are ready to process your perm.
7. Put on the gloves provided with your perm. Apply the perming lotion. Wait the amount of time according to the instructions with your perm. Rinse with warm water. Do not remove the rods.
8. Apply the neutralizer. Set the timer for how long you will need to leave the solution on according to the manufacturer.
9. Rinse the solution out with warm water. Dry and enjoy your new perm.
