Make Simple Chignons

Pull your hair back into a glamorous chignon.

Shoulder-length or longer hair is an ideal length for elegant updos. A simple chignon, basic in construction yet beautiful in your hair, can be as easy as putting in a ponytail. With a few bobby pins and a moment or two, you can fix your hair into a simple chignon. Understated yet stylish, the chignon looks equally lovely for a night on the town or a day at the office.

Instructions

1. Brush your hair to remove any tangles. Squirt a small amount of styling gel into the palm of your hand and rub your hands together briskly. Apply the gel to your hair evenly, working it through from the roots to the ends. The gel will help tame flyaways and make your hair smooth.

2. Pull your hair into a ponytail at the center-back of your head, beneath the crown of your head. Check the mirror to make sure your hair looks smooth and neat in the ponytail and then secure it with the elastic band.

3. Tuck the ponytail under and pin it into place with the bobby pins. Depending on the length of your ponytail, you may need to fold it under the elastic band only once or you may need to tuck in more length beneath the elastic band. Continue pinning your hair neatly with bobby pins until it feels secure.

4. Spray your hair evenly with hair spray to keep it secure.

5. Add a decorative hair ornament over the elastic band, if you desire.
