Curl Thick Kinky Hair

Curl hard to curl kinky hair.

Curly thick kinky hair is difficult to tame but not impossible to control. Kinky hair often has a mind of its own and never curls the way you would like it to. Many kinky curly hair owners have exhausted countless attempts to curl their thick hard-to-control hair, leading to frustration. Finding the right hair products and tools, along with a little patience, will lead you to the kind of curly hair you want. You have survived this long with your hard-to-manage hair, a few more steps won't hurt; especially if it could lead you to the curly hair you have always wanted.

Instructions

1. Find a diffuser attachment or buy a blow dryer with one already attached.

Comb out hair after shampooing and conditioning. Spray a leave-in-conditioner on to your hair. Add a gel with medium to firm hold for hair that is extremely dry and frizzy. Allow hair to air dry or blow dry hair with a diffuser, which will prevent the curls from separating and turning into frizz.

2. Add a heat resistant cream and light gel to hair before using heating tools.

"According to the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service, curling is safest if you twist your hair into pin curls overnight. Hot rollers and curling irons give the best results with coarse hair but may damage strands or roots when used to excess. Apply a heat resistant cream before curling to protect hair from damage. Add a light hair gel to help hold the hair and add shine.

3. Find the right curling iron.

Find a ceramic plated curling iron that will put less damage on your hair. Using a ceramic curling iron releases negative charged ions, which perform as smoothing agents and help you retain your hair's natural moisture.

4. Curl one side of hair at a time.

Part hair to one side and tie one side into a ponytail. Use small clips to separate hair from the parted side and work with small manageable parts of hair individually. Make sure the curling iron is fully heated. Curl for 30 seconds or longer, depending on the result. Continue if the curled hair is sticking together and there is no frizz in sight. Spray a liquid gel on the strand of hair that does not set and re-curl for a minute or longer. Untie the ponytail from the uncurled side of hair and begin curling.

5. Relax because curling kinky hair will take time.

Patience is required when curling a head of thick kinky hair. Investing an hour or more might be required when curling thick kinky hair. Turn off the curling iron after you have finished curling your hair.

6. Separate curled hair with fingers.

Separate the strands of hair gently with your fingers. Avoid brushing your hair. Washing your hair too soon will force you to start the whole process of curling your hair all over again. Waiting a couple of days before washing your hair will allow oils from your scalp to build up and make curls last.

7. Use a round brush to curl and blow dry hair.

Use a round brush if you do not want to use a curling iron. Blow dry small manageable parts of hair while continuously rolling brush in a circular motion. Avoid tangling hair by brushing hair in long motions until you reach the end of the hair strands, and then roll up brush and curl while blow drying at the same time.

8. Braid hair before going to bed and sleep on them.

Braid hair the night before and then sleep on it, for small wavy curls. Give your hair one, two or several braids and secure ends. Allow hair to dry and release from braids, separating strands with your fingers.

9. Find a stylist who knows work with curly kinky hair.

Perming thick kinky curly hair is an option that could last four to six weeks. Find qualified stylists who know work with thick curly hair. Tell the stylist you want a perm to help manage your kinky hair. Applying the perming agent to your hair will take control of the frizz and give you the curls you want without having to spend an hour or more doing it yourself.
