Use Hair Flex Rods

Use Hair Flex Rods

Hair flex rods are long, foam-covered rods that bend in any direction. Typically, these rods are used by professional hairstylists to perm long hair, though they can also be used to set the hair, similar to traditional hair rollers. Hair is wrapped vertically, around the flexible rods, and the result is corkscrew-like curls.

Instructions

1. Section off a two-inch-wide section of hair along the bottom perimeter of your hairline with a tail comb. Pin the rest of the hair on top of your head, out of the way.

2. Section off a one-inch-wide section from the bottom perimeter, starting in front of the ear. Lightly spritz this section, from root to tip, with the spray gel. Alternately, you can apply a setting lotion all over damp hair to achieve the same holding effect.

3. Pull the section of hair out at a 45-degree angle and wrap the ends of the hair around one end of the flex rod. Continue wrapping the hair, in a spiral pattern, up to the roots.

4. Bend each end of the flex rod down toward the middle of the rod, to form an oval shape. This will secure the hair to the rod and the rod to your scalp.

5. Continue this pattern for this section, and subsequent sections, until all the hair is wrapped in the flex rods.

6. Allow the hair to dry completely, either naturally or with the use of a hair dryer.

7. Remove the flex rods, beginning at the bottom of the hair, by straightening out the rods and unwinding the hair from the rods.

8. Coat your fingers with a little styling wax and finger comb your spiral curls in order to separate and define them.

9. Set the style with a humidity-proof hair spray to keep your style and curls in place.
