Convertible tops can be made from a few different combinations in material, such as vinyl with cotton, woven acrylic with cotton or nylon. Taking your car to a car wash is typically safe for a convertible top but is not the best or recommended way to clean it. Here’s the proper way to clean a convertible top:
Instructions
1. Mix solution. Take your mild detergent, mixing a little with water in a bucket. If using a spray vinyl cleaner, it will be ready straight out of the bottle.
2. Blow off any debris that may be on the convertible top. You do not want anything to scratch or poke your convertible top.
3. Apply cleaner to the convertible top. Rub the cleaner all over the top with a soft cloth. Direct, gentle pressure will remove as much dirt as possible. Never use anything hard to clean with; this may cause etching or scratching of your plastic windows.
4. Rinse the top with plenty of water from your water hose. Rinse well until the soap no longer suds up. Make sure all the soap is off. You do not wants spots left on the fabric.
5. Wipe plastic windows clean with a lint-free towel. The windows should be wiped clean often to ensure visibility. Let the fabric air dry.
