Home Remedy For The Green Tint Of Swimmers Hair

Harsh chlorine and other chemicals that condition swimming pool water keep the water clean but horrible on your hair. The green tint affects fair-haired swimmers more often, but brunettes can also experience discoloration along with dry, brittle hair. Fortunately, you can try a few simple home remedies to treat the green tint of swimmers hair.

Break out the baking soda

You probably have a box of baking soda in your fridge, but you might have never thought to use it as a home remedy for swimmer's hair. Mix a liberal serving of baking soda with regular shampoo, and spread the paste over your hair. After a few minutes, rinse your hair thoroughly, and then shampoo and condition as usual.

Stock up on aspirin

If you find yourself staring at a head full of green hair after your swimming excursion, head to the medicine cabinet (or the local pharmacy) for a home remedy. Pour roughly 1/4 cup of uncoated aspirin tablets into a large bowl or glass, and completely cover the tablets with water. Once the tablets have dissolved completely, pour the mixture over your head slowly, working it into your roots and down to the ends of your hair. Rinse thoroughly, then check the mirror...all traces of green tint should be gone.

Try a little lemon juice

The acidity of lemon juice can help strip the green tint from swimmer's hair, and also leave it shiny and soft. To use this method, saturate your hair with lemon juice and let it soak in for three to four minutes. Rinse, then treat your hair with your regular shampoo and conditioner.
