Style A Curled Updo

Curled updo hairstyles are elegant and work well for formal events such as weddings, proms or even a nice night out on the town. This style works best for ladies with medium or long hair, and with a little time and hair spray, you can create a beautiful look.

Instructions

1. Start with dry, straightened hair that has not been washed recently. Your hair has natural oils that can help keep the style longer. For women with curly hair, prestraightening with a straightening iron will make the styling easier.

2. Part your hair in the desired place using a comb, and then brush your hair into a loose-fitting ponytail. The ponytail should be midway up the back of your head, or up higher depending upon your desired look. You may opt to forgo a part and simply pull all your hair back in one direction. Rather than create a ponytail with a covered elastic band, twist your hair upward and secure the lower, twisted part with bobby pins. Loose hair should stick up and hang over the twisted part.

3. Separate the loose hair into four or more separate sections. Curl loose hair using small, tight or large, loose curls. As an alternative, use hot rollers to curl your hair. Consider spraying your hair with a volume-increasing curling spray to make the curls last.

4. Use bobby pins to secure curls around the twist, or simply let it flow loosely from the twist. To add a little visual interest, you can insert flowers or hairpiece decorations into the twist. You may also choose to spray hair-safe glitter to add some sparkle to your look.

5. Finish your style by spraying your hair with hair spray. Spray a considerable amount to keep your style in place. Some sprays create a firmer look, while others allow movement, so choose the type of hair spray that best suits you.
