Massage And Relaxation Tools

Relieving stress through relaxation can make life feel better.

Stress comes at us from all sides: home, work, health and finances. Stress can damage your health. Relaxation and massage are just two ways to lower your stress level and find peace. You can use many relaxation tools by yourself, on yourself.

Relax With Sound and Imagery

Some people are more relaxed when they are out enjoying nature.

Sound can be relaxing. Soothing music, white noise and nature sounds are all used to aid relaxation. White noise machines and relaxing music on a variety of media are available from department and music stores, online and from local artists. Some recorded media may include subliminal messages that encourage you to relax as you listen to music or sounds.

Relaxation meditation can be learned in a few easy steps. Take a deep breath and follow your breath inside to your center. Release the breath and relax. Decide what you would like to release or change to experience less stress. Spend a few minutes meditating on the steps that could make change a reality. As you return your attention to your surroundings, bring the information with you and act on it.

Guided Imagery is similar to meditation. You begin with following your breath as you did in meditation. With guided imagery, add your senses to the experience. See, feel, taste, hear and touch what it is like to be in your peaceful place. See yourself completing the steps that lead to a more relaxed and peaceful life. See yourself accomplishing these steps. Experience what it would be like to have a more peaceful, relaxed life before returning to your present time and place.

Therapeutic Touch

Therapeutic touch uses energy to promote relaxation and healing.

Therapeutic touch uses light touch and the focused energy of the practitioner to balance the energy fields of the recipient. Therapeutic touch can assist relaxation. It has been shown to reduce pain, improve health and ease dying. Health practitioners worldwide use it to decrease stress, improve relaxation and promote healing. Therapeutic touch is so effective many medical and nursing school include it as part of the curriculum.

Massage Tools

Massage tools vary from simple to more complex equipment.

Heat, before or during a massage, can be a great tool to help tissues and muscles relax. Heat draws blood to sore and tired muscles, allowing the body to begin to heal. Massage further relaxes tissues and encourages good circulation and blood flow to the body. Many hand-held massagers are employed in massage. Hand-held massage tools may include vibration, heat, percussion or a combination of these. The skillful hands of a trained massage therapist are used to promote good health and relaxation.

Scented oils and lotions, candles, aromatherapy machines, and incense are just a few ways to add smell to massage. Lavender, jasmine, and rose are relaxing scents. Cinnamon, peppermint and ginger are more invigorating scents.

Massage chairs and collapsing tables are valuable tools for taking massage to the client. There are a variety of chair and table models, but the most important features are portability and putting the recipient in a relaxing, but accessible posture for massage.
