Do A French Braid On A 3yearold

French braids can be simple or dramatic.

The French braid is a popular hairstyle for both children and adults. For young children, it is a great way to keep long hair out of the way and also looks very stylish and polished. Braiding a child's hair requires the same steps as braiding an adult's, but with more patience to complete the job.

Instructions

Braid the Hair

1. Wet the hair, especially if it's very fine baby hair. You can also add a little bit of hair gel or hairspray to give it some texture and help yourself hold onto it. Remember that children's scalps are sensitive and not used to hair products, so be careful not to add too much.

2. Sit your child in front of the TV or give her a book to read while you braid her hair. Try to think of something that is quiet and calming because you will need her to sit still while you braid. Consider offering her a small reward if she's able to sit still until you're done with the braid.

3. Comb out the hair to free it of any tangles. Have the fine-tooth comb and ponytail holder handy.

4. Separate a section of hair on the crown that will start the braid. This can be just the top corner of the crown or you can reach all the way down to the sides of the ears and pull that up. It depends how much hair you want to braid.

5. Split the hair you've selected into three even sections. Gather two of the sections in the left hand, keeping them apart using the thumb and forefinger. The third strand you'll hold in your right hand. If you're left-handed, simply reverse these instructions.

6. Working from the left to the right, bring the left outside section of hair to the middle by lifting it over the center section. Then, take the right outside section and lift it, placing it in the middle of the two left sections.

7. Pick up some extra hair on the left side of the head and add it to the outside section of hair. Repeat the above step, adding extra hair to the right side section before adding it to the braid. Continue this process until you can no longer add any hair. If the hair is long, finish the braid with a basic braid process. When you've included all the hair, hold the braid with your left hand while securing it with a ponytail holder using your right hand.

8. Spritz the braid with hairspray for a polished look and to control loose strands.
