Felt is a colorful and inexpensive craft material to use for flowers.
During winter, wearing a warm hat becomes a necessity, and so does keeping the hat on your head. The wind can easily blow off a hat, so a pin is a good idea. A crafty way of adding color to winter clothing is to customize the hat pin with a small felt flower. These are easy to make and can be color coordinated to match the hat or other clothing.
Instructions
1. Draw a 3-inch wide, six-petal flower on a piece of felt using the fabric pen. Repeat this on a different color felt, but draw a 2-inch wide, five-petal flower, and on a third color a 1-inch wide, four-petal flower.
2. Cut out all of these shapes using sharp scissors. Pinking shears can also be used and will cause the edges of the petals to curl up.
3. Place a pea-sized drop of hot glue onto the center of the large flower and place the middle flower on top of it, and orientate it so all the petals are visible. Once the glue has cooled, slightly repeat this technique to attach the smaller flower to the middle flower. Leave to dry for a few hours.
4. Attach the flower to the end of the hat pin using a drop of hot glue on the end of the pin and placing the flower on top. The flower may need to be held in place for a few minutes until the glue starts to cool.
