Women'S Hairstyles For Short Hair

Women often look great in short hairstyles, especially when they make the most flattering choices for their hair texture and face shape. Short styles are very modern and chic. Choose a style that works with your texture and lifestyle, and your short hair is sure to turn heads.

Consider Your Face Shape

Before getting that short haircut, consider your face shape to make the best choice. Women with oval faces can usually wear any style and have it flatter them. Round faces look best with tapered styles that are close on the sides and feature longer crowns; height helps to slim the face. Women with square faces should choose short hairstyles that end above or below the jawline, not at it. Wispy bangs and layers soften this face shape. Long faces can be balanced with volume at the sides of the face and wispy bangs.

Straight and Short

Tapered cuts and pixie cuts work well with straight hair. Pixie cuts are the same length all over, while tapered styles feature longer crowns and closely cut sides and back. These styles require minimal styling time; use mousse or gel to control flyaway hair and add volume if needed.

The shag is another short style perfect for thick hair. Women who don't like their hair "overly done" may prefer this mussier style, which can be put into place with finger tousling. Long bangs can come down as far as the eyes, and the back can be ear length or slightly longer.

A classic boy cut can be styled with bangs straight down or directed to one side. You also can wear razor-cut edges for a modern, edgy look.

Bobs are great for straight hair, as you can wear them with or without bangs, and with or without parts. Angled bobs are longer in the front and gradually taper into shorter back lengths; your stylist can razor cut the ends for added fringe.

Wavy and Curly Styles

Women with wavy or curly hair can cut down on styling time by wearing their natural texture. Remember that curly hair shrinks, so it's best to have a stylist cut your hair when dry to see true length.

Good short cuts for waves and curls include tapered styles and chin-length bobs. Apply gel to damp, tapered crowns for added control or slick looks; use mousse to increase volume and create a softer style. Bobs can be parted on one side or straight down the center. Lightweight products will keep your curls soft and touchable. Have a stylist cut long layers into a bob so it falls in a flattering way and isn't just a wedge shape.
