Care For My Hair After A Cold Wave Perm

Maintaining a perm requires daily care.

A perm provides an easy way to curl your hair. But a cold wave perm is a chemical process that turns straight hair into vibrant curls. Applying this technique to your hair is a simple process and only takes about 30 minutes. The hard part about perming is the care necessary to maintain the curls. You also want to keep your hair healthy and moisturized following a cold wave perm.

Instructions

1. Avoid washing your hair for at least 48 hours after getting a cold wave perm. This will give your curls time to set.

2. Apply a moisturizing shampoo and deep conditioner when you do wash your hair. It is important to resupply your hair with the nutrients lost during the perm. Apply a daily moisturizer every day.

3. Comb your hair with a wide-tooth comb to detangle your hair, if necessary. Avoid using brushes or fine-tooth combs as these can damage your sensitive hair roots.

4. Wait at least six weeks to dye, highlight or perm your hair again. Applying too many chemical treatments to your hair is unhealthy.

5. Avoid exposing your hair to direct sunlight, extreme heat and water. Sunlight and heat can strip your hair of nutrients. Water causes your hair to become sensitive to damage.

6. Apply a touch-up every six to eight weeks to keep your hair permed. A touch-up perm focuses on new hair growth to keep your hair styled.
