Teen Beauty Pageant Hairstyles

The teen beauty pageant hairstyle should appear natural and simple.

Young girls competing in teen beauty pageants should avoid overly dramatic or complicated hairstyles. The hairstyle should represent what the girl wearing it is -- a young girl. Big hair, hair dyed in unnatural colors or hairstyles comprising extensions or wigs might appear too unnatural and make the pageant contestant stand out for all the wrong reasons.

Updo

An updo is a good choice for a hairstyle, if you don't plan to change your hair throughout the pageant. Fold the hair and secure it with pins on the crown of the head. You can pull the hair back into a bun on the back or on the side of your head. You can also leave the hair on the top of the head, if a higher-looking hairstyle is what you prefer. If you are going for a styled updo, you need to have a brush and hairspray at hand, as the hair might get messy when you change outfits.

Cascading Curls

Cascading curls require at least shoulder-length hair and will work best for girls who have thin hair because curls will add volume and make the hair appear more vital and healthy. You can create cascading curls by putting various sized hair rollers in your hair overnight and gently brushing through your hair after you take the rollers out the next day. This type of hairstyle also allows you to add various hair accessories like flowers or headbands and is easy to put in a ponytail for the talent portion of the pageant.

Straightened Hair

A straight hairstyle gives the appearance of a clean-cut look and is simple to achieve and maintain during the pageant. It is appropriate for all hair lengths and you can change it easily during the competition by putting it in a ponytail or braiding it. Wash the hair and then blow-dry while brushing it downwards. When the hair is dry, use a flat iron to make it completely straight. Secure the hairstyle with hairspray. Keep the flat iron on the side in case the hair gets wavy midway during the pageant.

Between Up and Down

You can also go for the between up and down option. Simply pull the top of your hair back and secure it with a ponytail holder or a pin. You can either straighten or curl the hair the remaining hair. Complement this hairstyle with big earrings. You might have to work on this hair a bit more during the competition and touch it up to keep it looking styled and glamorous as the competition goes on.
