What Type Of Haircut Is Good For A Round Face

Your haircut can work for or against you. Understanding which hairstyle suits your face shape can help you put your best foot (and other body parts) forward. For those with round faces, several styles can accentuate your facial beauty and make you shine, while others may detract from your personal beauty. If you've got a round face, you want a style that makes it look slimmer, not rounder.

Definition

To identify your face shape, look in the mirror and draw the shape you see with something that will not harm the glass, such as shaving cream or lip gloss. Look at the shape you've drawn. Is the shape fairly circular, with a less than prominent chin? If the answer is yes, then you have a round face shape. Other shapes include oval, square and heart shapes.

Long & Layered

Long and layered hair is one of those styles that tends to work well on most, if not all, faces and tends to thin out a round face. Layers are important, as a blunt do can further emphasize roundness. Do not create a bob look and have the same length hair all around. The layers also provide a way to reduce weight in the cut and can work with either straight, wavy or curly hair.

Past the Chin

Another style for a round face is a cut that is past the chin or about shoulder length. If the hair is longer than the chin, the focus is not on the width of the face, but on the overall appearance. This length reduces the wideness of a round face by elongating it.

Short Hair

Short hair can work on round faces, if the cut provides enough volume and wispiness to balance the width of the face. If you want to go short, tell your stylist that you don't want a blunt cut, but more of a shaggy, layered short style.

Bangs

Bangs work well for round faces, if they are longer and angled to the side somewhat. Short or straight-across bangs do not help to elongate the face and may make your face look rounder than it is.

Tips

When choosing a cut for a round face, make sure the cut provides angles, layers and edges. A one-length style, especially a chin-length bob, will work against your face structure. Also take into account the kind of hair you have before making the cut. Certain styles favor straight hair, while others use curly hair to their advantage. If you see someone with a round face who has a great haircut, make sure it will work for your hair type before trying to copy the look.
