Take The Curl Out Of A Curly Perm

Loosen tight curls by showering as soon as you can.

A permanent uses chemicals to alter the structure of your hair. If you wanted a loose wave to add body and instead ended up with tightly coiled locks, don't panic. You can do damage control at home before you head back to your stylist for help. Your hair has just been subjected to some damaging styling. Try to use less harsh methods to relax the curls before you consider more drastic techniques.

Instructions

1. Immediately shower and shampoo your hair. Stylists recommend waiting 72 hours before you wash your hair after a perm. This suggests that immediate washing can help loosen your curls.

2. Apply a deep-conditioning treatment after shampooing. Use a wide-toothed comb to work through your hair while the conditioner is setting in. This can help stretch out the curl pattern. Comb for two to three minutes, then rinse the conditioner from your hair.

3. Continue to shampoo and use a smoothing conditioner daily. Your perm should loosen in a few days. If you followed the suggested steps and are unhappy with the results, consider a relaxing treatment or consult your stylist for help.
