Make Hair Barrette Bows

Make simple barrettes to dress up your 'do.

If you're looking for a cute, colorful and fun way to dress hair, consider a barrette bow. Instead of going to a salon or hair accessory store, make the barrette yourself. Not only will you save some money, but you'll also be able to create your barrette in any color or pattern that you like. With a few simple items you can have the perfect hair barrette to match any outfit.

Instructions

1. Run a small strip of fabric glue along the first inch of the ribbon. Open the alligator clip by pushing down on the pinch clips. Once opened, slide the ribbon, glue side facing up, to the back of the barrette, adhere the ribbon to the top of the inside part of the clip.

2. Release the pinch clips to close the barrette. Run a strip of fabric glue to the top, outside part of the clip. Fold the ribbon over to the top part of the clip, pressing the ribbon down along the strip of glue to adhere.

3. Place two pea-sized drops of glue on the inside of both pinch clips. Fold the ribbon down from the topside of the clip and into the pinch clips. Press the ribbon to the first glue dot on the upper pinch clip to adhere, then press the ribbon to the second dot of glue to adhere.

4. Place a pea-sized dot of glue on the very end of the ribbon. Fold the ribbon to the underside of the clip and glue the remaining ribbon down.

5. Let the glue set for a full 10 hours before placing it in your hair.
