Instructions for a Wave Nouveau

The Wave Nouveau is a chemical treatment that, when applied to the hair, creates a deep curl pattern. It tames the hair and eliminates frizz. Only a professional should apply this type of perm to the hair, according to SoftSheen-Carson.com. The Wave Nouveau is applied to a salon customer's hair in three phases.

Instructions

1. Perform a strand test by putting on the gloves that came in the Wave Nouveau kit. Pluck a strand of hair from your client's scalp. Apply a dab of product to the strand and stretch it out to sit for ten minutes. Notice if the hair discolors or breaks. If this happens, avoid applying the chemical treatment to the rest of the hair on the head. If the strand test passes, shampoo the rest of the hair thoroughly to remove any dirt or oil.

2. Apply the "Shape Release," or Phase 1, portion of the Wave Nouveau system to the entire head of hair. This will serve to straighten the hair first. Apply this product 1/4 inch away from the scalp and leave it on for five minutes. Use warm water to rinse the product out of the hair thoroughly.

3. Section the hair in four sections. Part the hair sections into four smaller sections and apply the "Shape Transformer," or Phase 2, liquid gel formula to each smaller section. Rod the smaller hair sections with the small or large curling rods. Small rods produce a smaller curl pattern in the finished hairstyle. Large rods produce a larger curl pattern in the finished hairstyle. Continue applying the liquid gel and the rods to each section until all hair is curled.

4. Wrap a cotton strip around the entire hairline and leave the rods in for 10 minutes.

5. Rinse hair thoroughly for five to 10 minutes with tepid water with the rods in tact and then blot dry.

6. Apply the "Shape Lock," or Phase 3, on each rod. Allow the solution to saturate the hair for 10 minutes. Remove the rods gently and rinse the hair for one to two minutes to remove all of the residue.

7. Avoid shampooing the finished hair for 48 hours after the chemical process. However, you may towel blot and use Wave Nouveau Moisturizing Finishing lotion to protect the hair.
