Hawaiian Wedding Hairstyles

Flowers are a key element of Hawaiian wedding hairstyles.

Hawaiian weddings are all about the beach and flowers. These two features can play an important role in designing the bride's hair for the big day. Loose waves that reference the flowing sea and bright tropical flowers adding a flash of color to an otherwise simple look are two ways of bringing Hawaii's natural beauty into the hairstyle. When it's time for the wedding, brides can go the traditional route or incorporate mainland touches into their look.

Haku Inspired Hairstyles

To appear truly Hawaiian on her wedding day a bride needs to have a wreath of flowers worn across her forehead. Called a haku, these head leis are a traditional feature in Hawaiian weddings. The hair is then styled to complement the haku. Updos can be worn with the hair gathered either above or below the lei and with a few strands hanging loose about the face. With the hair pulled back the haku stands out prominently. Leaving the hair to flow free creates a more even balance between the hair and the flowers.

Updo Hairstyles

A loosely styled updo is ideal for an island wedding. This hairstyle keeps the bride's hair from flowing into her face while she's reading her vows, but is delicate enough that it doesn't contrast with the laid-back atmosphere. Rather than being pulled back in a tightly lacquered fashion, the hair is instead lightly twisted and braided toward the nape or crown. Once confined to a single section, these braids and twists become a highly intricate design that forms an elaborate bun. Flowers, such as a few small plumiera or orchid blossoms, scattered throughout the hairstyle add a tropical touch. Since the style of the hair is very loose and carefree, the placement of the flowers doesn't need to be an exact science. They can be placed within the weaving of the bun's twists and braids or frame the edge of the bun on one side.

Free Flowing Hairstyles

Softly cascading curls create effortless elegance at a Hawaiian wedding. Wedding hairstyles don't have to be overly elaborate, and to fit in with the soft, beachy feel of a Hawaiian wedding, allowing longer hair to flow free creates a beautiful effect. To accent this look, a white hibiscus blossom tucked behind the ear is all that's needed. Brides wanting to add more flowers to their hair can easily do so. A few small blossoms secured throughout her curls or a smattering of them near the crown creates a truly tropical look.

Cute Medium Hairstyles For Teens

Cute Medium Hairstyles for Teens

Makeup and hair are an important part of teen fashion. Finding the perfect hairstyle can be a source of worry and stress for many young girls. Whether she is just entering junior high or finishing high school, a teen's hair plays an important role in her identity and self-esteem. Several cute hairstyles for teens will keep her at the top of her class.

The Bob

The bob has been a popular look since the 1950s. The bob never goes out of style because there is always a new style of bob walking down the fashion runway. The classic bob is a hairstyle that is cut below the chin and above the shoulders. It is all one length and can be a good transition from long hair because the hair can still be pulled back. There is also the layered bob which features layers throughout this same style, and the a-line bob, in which the front of the hair is left longer than the back of the hair.

The Pageboy

The pageboy hairstyle is similar to the original bobs of the 1950s. This hairstyle includes bangs, which are cut short or curled tight and close to the head. The rest of the hair is usually styled straight and is one length. This fun and funky style has the advantage of growing out quickly if it is something you decide you do not like.

The Shag

A shag hairstyle allows for keeping the length of your hair without sacrificing any type of style. Shags come in all different shapes and sizes. The one common denominator is layers. Layers are added in the back of the hair for volume. This style is very cute when pulled back into a short ponytail.

Apply Tea Tree Oil Without Causing Hair Loss

Melaeuca alternifolia, also known as tea tree oil, comes from the Melaeuca plant, a shrub native to Australia. You can use the oil for a variety of ailments of the scalp including fungal infections, dandruff, lice or itchy scalp. Commercial shampoos that contain tea tree oil have a very small percentage of the oil; this is to protect your skin from possible allergic reactions to the oil that can promote hair loss. Apply tea tree oil without causing hair loss by using caution and diluting the essential oil before it touches the scalp.

Instructions

Tea Tree Shampoo

1. Place six to 10 drops of tea tree essential oil in your favorite 12-ounce bottle of shampoo. Use the dropper to place the drops inside the bottle. This makes the shampoo consist of approximately 5 percent tea tree oil.

2. Wet your hair. Place a nickel size amount of shampoo in the palm of your hand and use your hands to massage the shampoo into your hair.

3. Rinse the soap out of your hair. Apply hair conditioner and massage through the hair and rinse.

Spot Treatment

4. Identify the area in your scalp where you have a problem. This includes a spot of fungus or dandruff.

5. Apply a small amount of tea tree oil onto a cotton ball. Add a small drop of olive oil to the cotton ball.

6. Dab the treated cotton ball on the affected area. Rinse the area with warm water and dry. Apply each day until the affected area is clear.

Instructions For Annie Spiral Perm Rods

Spiral perms create bouncy curls that last.

Spiral perms give hair the look of springy curls without having to spend time curling hair with a curling iron every time you want to have that bouncy look. Hair perms can last for months, but spiral perms can lose their bounce over time and may need to be redone when this happens. Creating your perm at home using a home perm kit can save you money over having it done by a professional at a salon.

Instructions

1. Cover your shoulders with a towel to protect your clothing. Put on latex gloves to prevent chemical burns on your hands.

2. Separate out a small section of hair to wrap around the spiral rod. Clip the rod onto the section of hair by the small clip at its end. Slide the rod up to the roots of your hair so it rests vertically against your scalp.

3. Wind the section of hair around the rod, following the spiral design. Continue wrapping along the spiral until you reach the ends of your hair.

4. Hold the wrapped hair in place and snap one of the rod rings onto the rod where your hair ends to hold your hair firmly in place. Use a ring that matches the color of the rod for the best fit.

5. Apply perm solution according to the perm kit manufacturer's directions. Let go of the perm rod so it hangs vertically against your head. Continue wrapping sections of hair until it's all been wrapped.

6. Follow your perm kit's directions to leave the perm rods in your hair for the appropriate length of time. Pull the rod rings off the rods and gently unwrap your hair. Unclip the rods from your hair to remove them.

Make An Anime Hairstyle

Anime characters have strange and unique hairstyles for multiple reasons. The unnatural colors, sharp spikes and long, thick ponytails are to separate one character from another, and each style also goes a long way into establishing a character's personality. Designing your own hair into one of these styles can go a long way in showing off your personality and individuality. A professional stylist's assistance is highly recommended.

Instructions

1. Know the personality you want to reflect; the hairstyle goes a long way in depicting this. For example, charming, romantic characters often have thick hair with bangs, sweeps and curls. Spiked hair is usually for characters of action and adrenaline.

2. Decide if you want to color your hair an unnatural, crazy color to go with the hairstyle. Once again, the color will help determine the personality: Blue hair is frequently used for shy characters, while red often reflects confident action girls or humble, skilled males. Follow all instructions for your hair dye or have a professional stylist do it.

3. Tease your hair if it needs extra volume. This is done with a "rat tail" comb; grab a section of hair and comb it in short, sharp strokes from the ends to the scalp. This works especially well with pigtails or ponytails.

4. Use plenty of hairspray, styling mousse or gel. The spray works best with the pigtails as described above. If you are just going for straight hair, comb it straight down and add the mousse/gel to a lock of hair at a time so you get multiple locks styled separately.

5. Put glue in your hair if you want to put it into spikes; this will work a lot better that gel or mousse. Use white glue, like the kind used in children's art, as it will wash out easily.

6. Grow bangs extra long, comb them into one straight, sweeping direction and apply the hairspray, gel or glue to keep it in place. You can style them so they brush over your eyes, but make sure you can still see them.

7. Add extensions to your hair if you want it to be extra long. You can dye and tease these extensions with little worry of damaging your own hair.

Style Long Hair

You have many options for styling long hair.

Long hair can be fun and versatile. It also can be frustrating if you're unsure of style it. It's easy to get stuck in a rut by sticking long hair in a ponytail day after day. But you have many other options.

Instructions

1. Go for a long and sleek look by blow-drying hair straight, using a round brush to pull it tight as you aim the hair dryer down the hair follicle, slowly pulling the brush from root to tip in 2-inch sections. Part hair in the middle, on the side or with a nondescript, messy part. Run a straightening iron through the same 2-inch sections to calm any waves. Add some smoothing pomade to define and add shine.

2. Get a relaxed, messy "just left the beach" look in five minutes. Start by washing and conditioning hair. Comb any knots out while the conditioner is still on. Rinse. Let the part fall naturally. While the hair is still very wet, "scrunch" it up by letting the ends of hair fall into your open palm and then closing your hand around small sections and pushing the hair upward toward the root. "Scrunch" hair all the way around the head, and let it air dry. With the hair still damp, rub an anti-frizz product in larger sections from the ends upward. "Scrunch" again. If your hair is naturally straight, roll a few 1-inch sections around a medium-size curling iron for a few seconds, and separate the curl a little with your fingers. Spritz with a touch of hairspray.

3. Create a glamorous curly style. While blowing hair straight as described in Step 1, heat a set of hot rollers. When the rollers are ready, use the medium-size rollers in the front, rolling 2-inch sections up and away from your face. Use the large rollers for the back and sides, rolling 2-inch sections in varying directions, using all the hair. Leave the rollers in for about 10 minutes. Separate the curls with your fingers, leaving them loose, and spray with hairspray. When the hairspray is dry, finish with a dime-size amount of anti-frizz or shining product.

4. Try a fancy up-do. Blow-dry hair as in Step 1. Brush all the hair into a high ponytail, and secure with a hair elastic. Brush a 2-inch section of the ponytail smooth, and roll it down around two fingers in any direction, securing it with a few bobby pins to the crown of the head. Create several rolls with the rest of the ponytail, pinning each roll to your head in the same way. Be sure to vary the direction of the rolls. Spray with a firm-hold hairspray, and finish by smoothing a shine pomade onto the front of your hair, and patting the pomade carefully onto the rolls, once the hairspray has dried.

5. Update the ponytail. Take the top front part of the hair and flip it forward in front of your face. Pull the rest of hair back loosely, temporarily out of your face. Hold the hair that is in front of your face straight up high with one hand, and tease behind it with the other hand. Pushing the hair forward into a poof in the front, secure this piece of hair from behind with two crossing bobby pins. Spray with a firm-hold hairspray. Brush the rest of the hair into a ponytail about an inch below the crown of your head. Secure with elastic. Spritz the ponytail with a little hairspray as well.

Perm Hair After You Color It

Coloring hair and perming hair both damage the hair to some degree. They both cause drying and sometimes splitting of the hair. So, you have to be very careful to maintain the health of your hair when you are processing it. If you keep your hair healthy and well moisturized, you can have beautiful colored hair with a perm.

Start with Good Hair Habits

Before you color or perm your hair, get it in good shape. Cut off any damaged hair and moisturize it. Your hairstylist can help you determine whether your hair is damaged. Examine the ends carefully for split ends. These indicate dry, damaged hair.

Read your shampoos and conditioner bottles. Make sure they are designed for your hair type. If your hair is very dry, get a deep conditioner and apply it at least once a week. Don't brush wet hair, comb it instead. Using a brush on wet hair can cause breakage.

Coloring Your Hair

Once your hair is healthy, you can color it. If you want to go lighter, you will need to bleach it and then color it. This should only be done on very healthy hair. Going darker does not require bleaching first, so it is gentler on hair. Read the instructions carefully and follow them. Be especially careful about the timing and the follow-up conditioning.

Wait

You need to wait at least one week after coloring your hair to perm it. Your hair needs a rest after the color before you use more chemicals on it. During this time, continue to use good hair care products that are designed for your hair type. You can change to a color protection shampoo if you want. Some colors, like reds, are harder to keep vibrant and color protection shampoo can help.

Perming Your Hair

You are ready to perm you hair. Perming chemicals are harsh. Leave the perming solution on for only as long as the directions indicate. Don't wash or wet your hair for 48 hours after your perm while the perm "sets." After that, continue to treat your hair with the best products to maintain healthy looking hair. Remember, your perm will last until it is cut out of your hair, but your color will have to be re-done about every five to six weeks.

Neutralize Your Lawn From Dog Urine Damage

If you have one or more dogs and a nice lawn, then you have more than likely experienced unsightly yellow spots of dead grass caused by dog urine. These problems are especially common in homes that have large female dogs, as they squat to "pee" on your well-kept lawn.

You can however, minimize or eventually even get rid of this problem by following few simple care instructions for the pet and the lawn.

Instructions

Lawn

1. Water the yard daily to help dilute the urine deposits. This treatment could actually rinse the wastes from your lawn.

2. Try avoiding adding too much fertilizer to the lawn, as the fertilizer tends to "hold" the deposits in place, maximizing damaging effects.

3. Try planting some tougher species grass like rye or fescue that are not as susceptible to "urine burns" as, for example, bluegrass or Bermuda Grass.

4. Ensure that your lawn is not in a drought or diseased condition, or has been sodded or seeded recently. In these conditions the lawn could be more susceptible to burns.

Pet

5. Try diluting the pet's urine by increasing his water consumption. You may add water to the food, or even add a non-salted broth to the pet's drinking water. Canned food could prove useful as it comes with a lot more water.

6. Feed your pet a diet rich in protein, as it is more digestible and produces less waste substances.

7. Other oral products such as Green UM, Drs. Foster and Smiths Lawn and Pet Care products and more are available from your local market or online, and may be helpful. These products blend natural herbs and amino acids which, when ingested, react with the harmful free nitrogen in the urine and neutralize it.

Simple Internet searches for lawn guards and pet care products could lead you to other websites where you can buy these dietary supplements for your dog and also solutions for your lawn care.

8. Make doubly sure your dog is not allergic to any of these dietary supplements before starting to use them.

Cool Short Guy Hairstyles

Male style is not as simple as it once was. While a simple cut was once enough to look sharp, now a number of hair styling alternatives are out there for men who want to sport a short hairstyle. Men of all ages can benefit from this clean-cut look. The well-groomed guy will make an immediate impression, whether in a business or social setting. Most importantly, a stylish short haircut will feel good while holding on to a traditional masculine appearance.

The Fade

The fade hairstyle is both neat and attractive, regardless of hair type or ethnic background. The fade begins with a neat razor shave along the nape of the neck and side hairlines and gradually grows in length until it reaches the top of the skull where the length is longest, usually less than three inches. This hairstyle is relatively easy to manage, though it needs to be cut regularly, usually every two to three weeks in order to maintain its appearance. The only drawback of the fade is that it can sometimes be unmanageable on top, especially if styling gel is regularly used. "Bed head" can be a problem, making this look a little more high-maintenance than a lot of guys will prefer.

The Buzz

The military buzz cut is popular among guys who enjoy sports and extreme recreation activities. This hairstyle is practical and easy to keep up. Because of the extreme short length, the buzz cut looks good on virtually any hair type, from curly to straight, thick to thin. To maintain a buzz, you will want to keep a regular haircutting schedule of every couple of weeks. One advantage of the buzz cut is that it is easy to do, making the economical choice a neighborhood barber instead of a more expensive stylist. Plus, you will be saving a lot of costs with hair products when you go this route.

The Shaved Head

Bald is sexy, but shaving your head requires commitment. The maintenance schedule is much more regular; most men who shave their head do so every three to four days. If you are willing to put in this kind of grooming effort, the effects can be dramatic. A shaved head is a bold alternative for guys who might suffer from thin hair or a receding hairline. Instead of being embarrassed by a perceived lack, men who shave their heads make a bold statement of confidence.

Take Care Of Your Hair Clippers

Hair clippers are used to trim hair on the head, around the ears and around the mouth. Using hair clippers can make it easy for anyone to give himself or a friend a haircut in his own home. Cutting your hair with hair clippers can save you money and time. You do need to take care of your hair clippers to ensure that they will be in proper working order when you go to use them.

Instructions

1. Wash the adjusters. Fill your sink with hot, soapy water to clean your snap=on adjusters. Snap-on adjusters are the clips that snap onto the clippers to allow you to adjust the length of the hair that you will cut. They can become grimy and dirty from use and should be periodically washed thoroughly. Submerge them in the hot, soapy water and use a cloth to scrub them well. Lay them out on a towel to dry.

2. Clean out the clippers. Never submerge your clippers in water. This could cause electrocution. Instead, you will want to take your hair clipper brush and carefully clean out all of the hairs you see on or inside your clippers. Hair can clog up clippers and can make them not run as well as they should. Using a Phillips head screwdriver, carefully remove the blade casing and clean out the inside of your clippers thoroughly. After your have cleaned out all of the hair, you will be ready to lubricate your clippers.

3. Spray lubricating oil very lightly onto the working mechanisms of the clippers, inside the blade area. Make sure that you do not spray too much oil onto the clippers, only a light spray should do it.

4. Once your clippers are oiled, replace the blade cover and tightly screw the blade cover back onto the clippers. Place everything back into the clipper's storage case and it will be ready to use when you need to trim your hair.

Why Fine Hair Texture Can'T Hold Curls Easily

Fine hair resists twisting which makes it hard to curl.

Fine hair is very flexible allowing it to be pulled into a curl or hair style, but its lack of protein and diameter cause it to fall out of the curl or style quickly.

Fine Hair Lack of Protein

Fine hair has about half as much protein as thicker hair. This causes fine hair to break and split easily. This lack of protein makes it hard for fine hair to hold styles or maintain volume.

Fine Hair Lack of Diameter

The diameter of fine hair is about a fourth less than that of medium or thick hair. This makes fine hair more flexible which causes hair styles to fall flat. Less diameter causes hair to be straight and rigid so it resists twisting and curling.

Fine Hair Holding Heat

Because of its lack of protein, volume and diameter, fine hair has a hard time holding heat. Most curling techniques, hot rollers, curling irons and steam curlers involve heating the hair. Fine hair looses heat too quickly to allow the curls to set.

Style A Modern Beehive Hairdo

If you've seen photos of 1960s beehive hairdos, you'll understand why the cone shaped pile of hair is named after the beehive. Beehive hairdos are back in style, but modern beehives are generally more flattering and understated. They're also much easier to accomplish.

Instructions

1. Shampoo the hair with a good moisturizing shampoo and pat it dry with a soft towel.

2. Set the hair in curlers, electric rollers or with a curling iron, but don't brush through the curls. Giving the hair some curl will help to provide volume and height when you begin styling the beehive.

3. Work a generous amount of hair spray, styling mousse or styling gel into the roots of the hair.

4. Separate the hair between your forehead and the crown of your head and clip it to one side. This section will be styled last.

5. Begin in the upper part of the back of your head and section the hair across the back of your head. Bring the section up towards the front of your head, and secure it with hair gel and bobby pins.

6. Continue one section at a time, bringing each section up and over the previous section, building layers and pinning them as you go. Each layer that you add will increase the height of the beehive.

7. Style the front section any way you like. You can pull it up over the top of the beehive, adding more height, or style it across the forehead. Give the entire beehive an additional misting of hair spray.

Instructions For A Wave Nouveau

Instructions for a Wave Nouveau

The Wave Nouveau is a chemical treatment that, when applied to the hair, creates a deep curl pattern. It tames the hair and eliminates frizz. Only a professional should apply this type of perm to the hair, according to SoftSheen-Carson.com. The Wave Nouveau is applied to a salon customer's hair in three phases.

Instructions

1. Perform a strand test by putting on the gloves that came in the Wave Nouveau kit. Pluck a strand of hair from your client's scalp. Apply a dab of product to the strand and stretch it out to sit for ten minutes. Notice if the hair discolors or breaks. If this happens, avoid applying the chemical treatment to the rest of the hair on the head. If the strand test passes, shampoo the rest of the hair thoroughly to remove any dirt or oil.

2. Apply the "Shape Release," or Phase 1, portion of the Wave Nouveau system to the entire head of hair. This will serve to straighten the hair first. Apply this product 1/4 inch away from the scalp and leave it on for five minutes. Use warm water to rinse the product out of the hair thoroughly.

3. Section the hair in four sections. Part the hair sections into four smaller sections and apply the "Shape Transformer," or Phase 2, liquid gel formula to each smaller section. Rod the smaller hair sections with the small or large curling rods. Small rods produce a smaller curl pattern in the finished hairstyle. Large rods produce a larger curl pattern in the finished hairstyle. Continue applying the liquid gel and the rods to each section until all hair is curled.

4. Wrap a cotton strip around the entire hairline and leave the rods in for 10 minutes.

5. Rinse hair thoroughly for five to 10 minutes with tepid water with the rods in tact and then blot dry.

6. Apply the "Shape Lock," or Phase 3, on each rod. Allow the solution to saturate the hair for 10 minutes. Remove the rods gently and rinse the hair for one to two minutes to remove all of the residue.

7. Avoid shampooing the finished hair for 48 hours after the chemical process. However, you may towel blot and use Wave Nouveau Moisturizing Finishing lotion to protect the hair.

Reduce Frizz In Permed Hair

Smoothing serums help to reduce frizz and define curls.

Perming hair changes the texture of your hair by using waving or straightening lotions. These chemicals break the natural bonds in the hair shaft to allow your hair stylist to form your hair into its new texture whether curly, wavy or straight. The strong chemicals used to break these bonds strip the hair's cuticle, leaving it drier and more prone to frizz after processing. Take special care of permed hair in order to maintain shiny, healthy hair.

Instructions

1. Wash and condition your hair using shampoo and conditioner designed specifically for permed or color-treated hair. These products nourish your hair and return moisture to the shaft, which will help to reduce frizz and improve the texture of your hair.

2. Allow your hair to air dry or, if not possible, dry your hair using a hair dryer with a diffuser nozzle. Heat styling dries out your hair and causes damage, which leads to frizz and breakage. If you absolutely need to blow-dry your hair, use a diffuser to spread the heat and reduce damage.

3. Apply a smoothing serum to your dry hair. Place a small amount of serum in your palm, and then run your hands and fingers through your hair. Silicone-based serums will smooth the hair's cuticle, increase the shine and reduce frizz.

4. Spread a deep-conditioning hair mask onto your hair once a week. After shampooing your hair, place a small amount of the product in your hand, and then spread the product from the roots of your hair to the tips. Select a product that contains keratin and protein to replace these proteins that were stripped from your hair during the perming process. Allow the mask to remain on your hair for 30 minutes before rinsing.

Get A Permanent Wave

Permanent waves used to mean dry, brittle, frizzy hair. That's not necessarily the case any more. You can safely get a permanent wave in your hair to create just about any type hairstyle you want.

Instructions

1. Study hairstyles that have fullness to them. Permanent body waves can give you a variety of ways to style your hair without ever having curly hair.

2. Let your hair grow out a bit. Lots of layers tend to make a fuller head of hair, so if you're looking for a sleeker body permanent, grow out the layers.

3. Trim off as many highlighted ends as you can while still maintaining your hair style. The chemicals that highlight your hair also cause it to be dry and brittle. If you add those chemicals to the permanent wave chemicals, your hairstyle may resemble straw.

4. Get your hair in good shape before you get a permanent wave. Take time to condition it regularly. If you don't have time for daily treatments, treat your hair to weekly deep conditioning.

5. Refrain from getting your hair colored for 2 or 3 weeks before and after you get a permanent wave. While most color products contain conditioners that help your hair, the bottom line is they also contain chemicals that can dry out the hair shaft and damage it.

6. Find an expert hairdresser to give you the permanent wave. While you can give yourself a permanent, you get the best results in a salon. Make sure you both agree on the amount of curl you desire before you begin the process.

The Short Front

The short front style of hair is simple and to the point. The hair should be cut to be the same length all around, without longer bangs in the front. This contemporary haircut is especially suiting for those with a receding hairline. In the past, men have tried to cover up their receding hairline with long bangs in the front. In contemporary hair fashion, however, keeping short bangs is thought to make the onset of a receding hairline less noticeable. A natural and masculine look is achieved through the short front hairstyle, making it perfect for middle-aged professionals.

The Fringe

The fringe hairstyle consists of short, neatly buzzed sides, and an equally short back with longer hair on top. The lengthier top falls neatly over the cleanly clipped back and sides. The back and sides are shaped with clippers using a blade size of either four or five. While the length of the top of the cut can vary, it is generally cut to leave the bangs above the eyebrows. The fringe is styled to push the lengthier hair on top forward towards the forehead. Styling this hairstyle is made easy with pomade, and helps in obtaining the fashionably messy trademark of the hairstyle.

The Slick Back

The slick back has evolved in contemporary society from the classic slick back hairstyle. For guys with curly hair, the cut is usually kept to between 1 and 3 inches on top. For those with straight hair, the slick back will look best when cut to a slightly longer length on top. Regardless of whether the man's hair is straight or curly, the sides of the hair is cut short. Styling the slick back is made easier through the use of hair product such as gels and pomades to push the hair back and keep it in place. For the best results, the hair should be slicked back to the side that best accents the wearer's face. A part can be combed and styled in if preferred.

Style And Curl Long Hair

Wearing your long hair straight every day can be boring and leave your hair looking lifeless. A simple curled style can give life to long hair and frame your face differently. With a little work, you can curl your long hair and reinvent your look.

Instructions

1. Use a fine-toothed comb to part your hair down the middle.

2. Spray a heat-protection spray on your hair and comb it through the hair to distribute it evenly. If your hair is particularly damaged, spray the ends as well.

3. Use your fine-toothed comb to separate a 1-inch section of your hair for curling.

4. Use the curling wand to curl the section of hair away from your face.

5. Secure the curl with a hair clip to help it hold its shape. Repeat this curling and clipping process on your entire head.

6. Spray the clipped curls with hairspray and wait for them to cool.

7. Release the curls from their clips and finger-comb them to give the curls a less-uniform look. You now have styled and curled long hair.

Remove Unsightly Body Hair

Unwanted hair? No problem. There are several options to choose from that will safely, and in some cases permanently, get rid of it. You may want to experiment with a few of them to decide what works best for you.

Instructions

1. Shave it. Shaving is a popular way to remove unwanted hair, although hair tends to grow back quickly.

2. Use a depilatory product, which temporarily removes hair by chemically dissolving it. When purchasing a depilatory product, be sure it is formulated for the area of the body on which you intend to use it. Do a sensitivity test before using it on large areas, and follow directions carefully.

3. Consider waxing every 4 to 6 weeks, in which you apply hot or cold wax to an area of the skin with unwanted hair. The hair adheres to the wax and is removed when the wax is peeled off. Because waxing removes hair at the root, regrowth occurs slowly.

4. Tweeze it. Tweezing removes hair at the root, but is not practical for large areas of hair.

5. Think about electrolysis. Using an electrical current, this process can remove some hair permanently by destroying the hair follicle. Home electrolysis devices are available, but most people opt for professional treatment. Large areas of unwanted hair may require several sessions.

6. Laser it. Laser treatment destroys hair follicles, but may not result in permanent hair removal. Laser treatments should be performed by a licensed professional.

Make Your Hair Curly By Using Proline Texturizer In Your Hair

Hair texturizer, such as the kind made by Proline, is used to loosen hair follicles and make them easier to style. While this is usually applied to curly hair, it can also be used on hair that needs curling. If you have hair that is difficult to curl, you can apply a texturizer followed by a curler to give yourself curly hair.

Instructions

1. Prepare your hair for the texturizer by washing it in the shower. Use shampoo and conditioner as you normally would, and dry your hair with a towel and comb it to remove any tangles. Rub petroleum jelly into your scalp -- this will help with any irritation from the texturizer.

2. Separate your hair into three or four sections, and secure each section with hair clips. Apply the texturizer using the texturizer application brush. Leave it in for 10 minutes.

3. Apply the neutralizer to your hair using the texurizer application brush. Leave it in for 10 minutes, and wash your hair thoroughly for five minutes. Towel dry your hair.

4. Turn your curler on. Open the curler and place a small amount of hair inside. Curl your hair by rolling it up to within an inch of your scalp and holding it for 10 seconds. Repeat this step with the rest of your hair.

String Beads Into Hair

Hair beading can be a fun party activity also.

Hair beads are a fun way to wear your hair at the beach or for a summer picnic. Particularly if you are going to be in and out of the water, hair beads can keep your hair from tangling and keep it looking playful and put together even when it is a little stringy from salt or chlorine. In this article, we will discuss string beads into hair.

Instructions

1. Brush your hair thoroughly. This style is easiest to achieve when hair is tangle-free.

2. String 3 to 10 beads onto the bead hook. Simply push them over the end with a loop.

3. Separate a small section of hair. It should be about the same width as the holes in you hair beads.

4. Thread the section of hair through the loop in the bead hook. If any hair does not make it through the hole, just let it fall back into place on your head.

5. Pull the bead hook downward. This will force the beads off the hook and onto the "string" of hair.

6. Secure the bottom of the hair with a small rubber band. If you want the beads to hang higher up, then place the rubber band just below where you want the beads. You can do this one or many times until you have as many beads in your hair if you wish.

Do Pageant Hair

The hairstyle you choose to flaunt in a pageant can often be the factor to determine if you snag a crown. The styles are soft and glamorous and use a variety of hair products and accessories. For a traditional pageant look, try the classic curls. It is best to master whatever hairstyle you choose prior to the pageant so that there will be no problems when show time finally arrives.

Instructions

Do Pageant Hair

1. Apply shine serum to damp hair, making sure to evenly distribute the product all through the hair. Blow-dry hair until it is almost but not completely dry. Run a bristled brush through your slightly damp hair to remove all tangles.

2. Part your hair to your liking using a wide-toothed comb. Carefully grab a 2-inch section of hair and wrap it around a large curler, setting with a bobby pin if necessary. Repeat until your entire head of hair is in curlers. Mist all curlers with extra hold hairspray. Wait twenty to thirty minutes to allow hair to finish drying.

3. Remove all the bobby pins and curlers after hair has dried completely, misting each tendril with more hairspray as you take them down. When all the curlers have been removed, gently use your fingers (not a brush) to fix any uneven curls or flyaways. Hang your head upside down, and use hairspray once again on the tendrils. Flip hair upright, make any final adjustments with your fingers or wide-toothed comb, and set with some glitter-infused hairspray.

Removing Semipermanent Hair Dye

Why it's Easier to Remove Semi-Permanent vs. Permanent Hair Dye

Semi-permanent dye does not contain peroxide, an ingredient commonly found in permanent hair-dye. Semi-permanent dye is designed to not penetrate the hair cuticle, which means it will eventually fade within six weeks. Permanent dye will never come out, and the only true way is to wait for the dyed hair to grow out.

Over-the-Counter Dye Removal Products

There are several products you can buy at local drug or beauty supply stores designed to remove semi-permanent hair dye. Modulate by Igora or hair color remover from Goldwell are recommended by many users on Internet forums discussing the subject of rectifying hair dye mistakes, as in Color Oops.

Home Remedies

Washing your hair with a shampoo that has a high "pH" level (Prell is a good one to try) several times within the first day of the dye disaster should get most of its color out.

If it has been more than a day and you want to try and get the color out, mix lemon juice and vinegar together and use a paint brush to coat your hair with it. Wait 10 minutes and wash again. You should notice a gradual lightening of the color. Repeat these steps every day once a day for a few days until you are satisfied with your hair color. Don't perform this ritual more than once a day, because the concoction can cause your hair to turn greenish when overdone.

Do 40s Glamor Curls

Large curls are characteristic of the 1940s.

Glamorous 1940's hairstyles are en vogue, with celebrities such as Christina Aguilera and Katie Perry favoring vintage hairstyles. A head of large, flowing curls is characteristic of the vintage '40s glamor hairstyles. Pin curling is the ideal method for creating these large, flowing curls. You can even sleep while your hair dries and curls. In the morning, styling takes just a few minutes as you remove the bobby pins and add hair accessories to complete the '40s hairdo.

Instructions

1. Dampen your hair with a spray bottle filled with water or style your hair after showering.

2. Brush your hair to remove all tangles.

3. Part your hair with a comb. Side parts are most commonly associated with vintage hairstyles. The side part should be positioned approximately one inch to the left or right of where you'd place a center part.

4. Separate a 2-inch square section of hair at the front of your scalp, just beside your part. Use large chunks of hair for this hairstyle, as this will produce large, '40s style curls.

5. Hold your thumb and pointer finger approximately two inches apart, and wrap the section of hair around your thumb and pointer finger, starting at the tip and working toward the root. This will create a coil of hair.

6. Place the coil of hair flat against your scalp, and run a bobby pin across the coil to hold it in place. This is called a pin curl.

7. Put all of your hair in pin curls, working in 2-inch square segments. It's generally easiest to start at the front of your head and work your way toward the back, while also working from the top of your head down.

8. Dry your hair with a hairdryer with a diffuser attachment or allow your hair to air dry overnight. If you allow your hair to dry overnight, wrap a satin or silk scarf around your head to keep your hair smooth.

9. Release the pin curls once your hair is dry. Remove the bobby pins, starting with the bottom sections of hair and working toward the top of your head. As you remove each curl, brush the individual curl once, then immediately twirl the section of hair in the direction of the curl to redefine it.

10. Style with your fingers. Do not brush out the curls, as this will turn them into waves. Add a headband or use a scarf as a headband for a traditional '40s look. Alternatively, secure front sections of hair at the temples with clips.

11. Apply a light coat of hairspray to maintain the curls, especially in humid weather.

Pin Hair Up In 1930s Styles

Short hair expressed women as powerful during a time when women's rights were still being debated.

The 1930s were a time when women commonly wore shorter hair styles, such as the bob. It was also during the '30s that the finger wave style became very popular---a hairstyle now notable with old-school Hollywood and class. Website 1920-30.com suggests cutting the short hairstyle in a light layered look to achieve a wave style with more ease---promising that the layered finger wave gives off a more youthful look.

Instructions

Finger Wave Styling For Any Length Hair

1. Towel dry your hair until just damp and add hair gel or mousse to your hair. Use about a quarter sized amount or two in short hair (bob), or three to four quarter sized amounts for longer hair. Comb the product through, coating every strand.

2. Comb your hair into a side part and then smooth down the top layer of your hair with your hands to emphasize the part. If the hair is too wet, lightly blow dry it to remove some moisture.

3. Smooth down the top layer. With your finger, lift the ends with your finger to create a layered curl. You may continue to smooth down the layer while it dries into place and lift the edge into the curl with finger.

4. Mist the top created finger-wave with hairspray to speed up drying and maximize hold.

5. Comb out another layer underneath the top to create another wave. Smooth with your hand, then lift the end with your finger like you did for the top layer. If you want a more drastic wave in any layer, use a curling iron with a clamp to smooth down the hair with the heat and curve the end up to create the wave.

6. Spray the layer lightly with hairspray as you did before to the first layer.

7. Continue to do these steps with other layers, depending on the length and thickness of your hair. Try to do at least three layers with waves to enhance the look of the finger wave. Finish the style by smoothing down any rough layers, spray the hair for hold and blow dry into the style if any places are still wet.

Perm Short Hair

Perming short hair can be a disaster for some and a miracle for others. Depending on your hair genetics you can have a great curly perm, even if your hair is short. Good perm methods for short hair are poodle perms or afro-perms. You can create these nice looks with a few pointers on perm curly hair.

Instructions

1. Comb your clean dry hair and roll it into the perming rods. Since the hair is short you won't have to wind for very long. Make sure to wind the hair in a natural pattern, the way it would if you had naturally curly hair.

2. Wrap a towel around the base of the hair and forehead to prevent the perming solution from dripping.

3. Begin applying perming solution to the rods. You should have a perm specific to short hair, so the solution will make more relaxed curls than tight ones. The towel around your head and the one on your shoulders will prevent the solution from dripping and ruining your clothes.

4. Wait the specified amount of time set by the curling kit instructions, and then rinse the curls. The water should be tepid and comfortable to rinse for 3 to 5 minutes.

5. Neutralize the hair carefully, saturating each rod, and wait the specified amount of time on the kit for neutralizer to take effect.

6. Unroll the perming rods and rinse the neutralizer out of the hair completely. Take care to be gentle so as not to tangle your curls.

7. Condition the hair. Blow dry and style your new curls as desired.

Get A Perm Marker Out Of The Carpet

Permanent markers can stain fabrics.

Most permanent markers will write on virtually any surface, making labeling various items in your home a breeze. This unique pen does have some drawbacks, however. For example, if a permanent marker falls to the ground or is left out without the cap on, the ink inside the marker can leave a stain on your carpet. With the right techniques, you can get out most of the permanent marker stain.

Instructions

1. Dampen a white cloth with rubbing alcohol and use it to blot the permanent marker stain.

2. Look at the cloth as you blot. The permanent marker should be going from your carpet to the cloth.

3. Blot the permanent marker stain on your carpet with a dry side of the cloth. More of the ink will go from the carpet to the cloth.

4. Blot again with rubbing alcohol, using a new side of the cloth. Then blot with a dry side. Continue this process to remove as much of the stain as possible.

5. Dampen a new cloth with water and use it to rinse the carpet. Blot the area dry.

3. Brush the hair from the left side of your head towards the back. Hold all of this hair in your left hand and bring it around to your right side by the braid.

4. Wrap the straight hair around your braid by bringing it up from the bottom towards the front and over the braid again towards the back. Continue wrapping the straight hair around your braid until you reach the ends. Then tuck the ends underneath and secure it all with some straight hairpins.

5. Take the braid and wrap it around the hair already gathered. Wrap the braided hair in the same direction as you did previously. When all the hair is wrapped, secure it in place with straight hairpins.

6. Smooth away any short hairs with a glossing cream. Place an amout the size of a pea in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together. Then lightly smooth your hands across your hair to flatten any stray hairs.

With a few simple items you can have the perfect hair barrette to match any outfit.

Various Anime Hairstyles

Anime hairstyles can be for men or women.

Anime hairstyles are all the rage in Japan. Inspired directly by popular anime cartoons that are well loved across the country and the world, people are translating anime hairstyles into real-life hairdressing. Anime hairstyles break the Asian hair tradition of long, sleek, dark hair, replacing it with jagged, colorful and untamed hair styles. Anime hairstyles mostly fit into a few different categories.

Bob

The bob is an old classical haircut but also a favorite of anime characters. While the actual cut itself appears to be more mainstream than some other anime cuts, it's is often livened up with hair dye. Coloring the haircut with blue or bright red or pink hair dye or highlights adds an element of a cartoon character to the look. Anime bobs are mostly finished with straightening irons to achieve a flawless, smooth bob. Despite the sleekness, anime bobs can also be finished with jagged edges on the fringe or at the bottom of the bob to give it that anime twist of the original.

Long, Layered Hairstyles

Those who want an anime look with slightly longer hair would tend to go for the look of a long-haired anime character. The look digresses from traditional Asian hairstyles as the hair is often filled with layers and a noneven fringe. As a result, the hair has a lot of volume, even though the style is typically finished with straightening irons. While the finished look is sleek, this hair style is best finalized with some hair wax to bring out some small quirks created by the layers.

Extra-Long Hairstyles

Some anime characters have very long hair reaching below their waist, and this style is increasingly being translated into real-life hair styles. Many opt to have hair extensions rather than waiting to grow their hair to achieve this look. The finished length of the hair has some wild layers, some of which are quite short to contrast with the length of the longest hairs. Adding in hair extensions is also an opportunity to introduce some different colors to the hair style, from subtle browns to brighter reds and pinks. A popular style for the fringe is to have a thick, long, straight fringe reaching down to just above the eyes.

Male Styles

Anime hairstyles are chosen as much by men as by women. As the typical anime look for men is mid-length to long hair, male and female anime hairstyles are practically interchangeable. Some common anime elements used in male haircuts include having a long fringe that partially covers one eye, and having spikes that stand on end from the top of the head or that point forward. The messed up, "bedhead" look is another popular anime hairstyle for men. Most wear their hair black, while a few introduce streaks of color into their hair, often choosing something bright like blue, red or even white.

Stop Relaxed Hair From Breaking

While getting your hair chemically relaxed can increase your hairstyle options, it can also create a need for increased hair maintenance. Since relaxed hair is more susceptible to breakage than natural hair, it's important to take preventative measures to guard against damage. Relaxed hair is especially fragile during the week following chemical straightening. It will require extra protection from heat and friction sources until new growth emerges and the natural curl pattern returns. Learning take care of your relaxed hair can help it grow long and lustrous.

Instructions

1. Clip the ends of relaxed hair every six to eight weeks. Trim the ends up to 1 inch, based on your hair's overall condition and your desired hairstyle. This maintenance keeps split ends from traveling up the hair strand, which results in uneven breakage. Use sharp hair scissors to prevent uneven cutting and missed ends.

2. Provide adequate moisture to prevent breakage. Spray a liberal amount of lightweight oil sheen to coat the hair from root to tip. Comb and brush the hair daily for greater penetration of the oils. Use a natural oil hair grease to lock in moisture after you wash your hair. This helps protect the hair from dryness and friction damage.

3. Choose stress-free hairstyles to promote growth and prevent hair damage. Use tools such as blow dryers and flat irons in moderation. Try hairstyles such as cornrows, wet sets and wraps to avoid breakage caused by overheating the hair. Consider alternating between heated styling and stress-free styling for greater flexibility and increased damage protection.

4. Wash relaxed hair with clarifying and hydrating shampoos to prevent breakage. Commit to regular hair washing schedule, based on your hair type, weather conditions and your exercise habits. Use a clarifying shampoo during the first washing after getting your hair relaxed. Clarifying shampoo contains chemicals that strip any residue left from the relaxing process. Choose hydrating shampoo for normal hair washing, to infuse moisture into the hair shaft.

5. Use conditioners to prevent and repair weak spots. Apply a rinse-out conditioner after shampooing. Select a leave-in conditioner that contains natural oils, such as jojoba or coconut, and use it daily. Deep-condition your hair once a week, using a hot oil treatment. Using a combination of conditioning tactics gives relaxed hair the best protection from breakage.

Gifts For 8th Grade Graduates

Graduation gifts make kids feel special and grownup.

It is a big moment in every parent's life when your son or daughter graduates from the eighth grade. The eighth grade is an academic rite of passage that signifies the student is ready to enter high school. It is customary to give your graduate a gift in honor of his hard work, and to celebrate his achievements. Find something that your child will appreciate and enjoy, and that speaks to the occasion.

Vacation

Summertime is here, and this will be your eighth grader's final summer before becoming a high school student. Celebrate the excitement with a family vacation. Make plans to go someplace that your son or daughter would enjoy, such as the beach or a big city. The vacation can be a surprise if you are able to successfully keep the plans a secret. If the element of surprise is what you're after, present your son or daughter with a wrapped box on graduation day, and put a map with a circle around the travel destination into the box.

Jewelry

For many girls, the thought of graduating eighth grade and going to high school creates a sense of maturity. You can complement this notion by giving her a piece of jewelry that will make her feel special. She may even wish to wear it on her first day of high school. When giving the gift of jewelry, make sure that you know what your daughter's style is, as well as what is trendy. Chances are your daughter will have her own unique taste and won't want jewelry that is outdated. Another jewelry idea is to buy your daughter a necklace with the date of her graduation engraved in the pendant.

Electronics

Many eighth-grade kids are into electronics, such as iPods, portable DVD players and cell phones. For a graduation gift, give your child a new electronic device that he has been wanting. If you have the financial means, you may even consider buying your child a laptop or personal home computer, which will come in handy for all the homework to come in high school.

Hobby-inspired Gifts

If you know that your child has a particular hobby, such as weightlifting, surfing, bicycle riding, drawing, painting or photography, find a gift that encourages his passion. A new surfboard waiting at home after the graduation ceremony is ideal for the surfer, as is a new camera for the budding photographer. Hobby-inspired gifts will make your child feel special and will give him something to do over the summer break.

Framed Picture Collage

A framed picture collage takes work to prepare, but can be a sentimental gift for an eighth-grade graduation. Start by collecting photos of your child and his friends throughout their eighth grade year. Assemble the photos in a creative way and glue them to card stock. Find a glass frame to put it in so that your child can hang it on the bedroom wall.

Hair Ideas For Children In Beauty Pageants

Beautiful hairstyles are a beauty pageant essential.

Entering a beauty pageant requires a lot of patience and participation on the part of the child. However, in general, the parents or a hair stylist are responsible for creating that perfect 'do for the little ones. Having some ideas beforehand will make the hair sculpting process a little bit easier.

Curls

Curls are almost a staple for a beauty pageant. Tendrils in an otherwise up-do frame the face and bring some more body to the style. Create tight curls in long hair for a romantic look or a loose style somewhere in between waves and curls to emulate styles of the summer and spring. Big curls pulled to the back of the head channel elegant princesses and queens.

Up, Down or In Between

Whether the little girl has all her hair up, all her hair down or a little bit of both is entirely acceptable at pageants. You might leave it all down and free flowing, or add an accessory or two to jazz it up. Hair up and down styles are popular, as they allow for more creativity. Two pieces in the front can be left down and out of a bun, or a deep side part could create an extra curl on one side.

Accessories

Dazzle up the little one's hair with accessories. A large flower works in all sorts of styles, just clip it in to one side and add some hairspray to ensure that it holds in place. Bring the hair all the way to the back and put one large flower on each side. Add a tiara to add jazz to a bun or to accessorize a half up and half down look. Little clips add glitz to any style.

Volume and Shine

Generally, hair styles for a beauty pageant are rather voluminous. This effect can be created by using large rollers, blow drying the hair upside down or using hairspray. Consult with a stylist to decide which method is the most appropriate for your child's hair. Another important component is to eliminate frizz so that the hair looks shiny and healthy. Special shampoos and conditioners are formulated to eliminate frizz, and you can find shine sprays at your local drugstore.

Choose A Prom Hairstyle

Choose a Prom Hairstyle

Most girls dream about prom as often as they dream about their wedding. Prom is that one social event for every high school student where Cinderella gets to become a princess. You've spent time shopping and preparing. Now that you have the perfect dress and shoes, you need to choose the perfect hairstyle.

Instructions

1. Decide who is going to style your hair. If you are a wiz with a curling iron, you may choose to style your own hair. If not, make sure you choose a friend or a professional stylist. The style you pick will need to be something that the person knows do.

2. Understand your natural hair texture. Knowing what type of hairstyles work with specific types of hair will help you choose a prom style that will complement you. It will also allow you to plan how much time you will need to achieve a certain style. If you have naturally curly hair, you will not be able to achieve a sleek glamorous look without straightening your hair first.

3. Work with your hair length. Do not choose a long hairstyle if you have short hair unless you plan on adding extensions to your hair.

4. Find pictures. Fashion magazines, beauty salon books and the Internet are all great sources for prom styles. When you see a hairstyle you like, make a copy of it or cut it out. This visual aid will help ensure that you get exactly what you expect.

5. Schedule a consultation with a professional. Get professional advice even if you think that you will style your own hair. Most beauty salons offer a free consultation. Not only can the stylist suggest looks that will complement you, they can also answer any questions you may have.

6. Practice your style. Have your hair styled exactly as you want at least once before your prom. This will allow you to decide if you really like how the hair style looks. If you decide you do not like the look, choose another style.

For beverages choose margaritas and pina coladas, blue lemonade, punch, iced tea and tropical slushies.

Decorations

Having leis for your guests will add a personal touch. Have a bowl or someone with leis waiting for your guests as they arrive. Another added touch is Hawaiian flowers for the women's hair. Just remember for the single ladies that they place the flower behind their right ear and married women place the flower behind their left ear. Having grass skirts for the bride and her bridesmaid is also an option. Taking a grass skirt and putting it around your buffet table with a green table cloth will add another Hawaiian touch. Place sea shells, sunglasses, Hawaiian luau girls that wave their hips, and Hawaiian flowers around your table. Tiki masks on the wall, inflatable palm trees, and candles with seashells lit around the table are other decoration ideas. For outside parties tiki torches and pink flamingos will be an authentic addition.

Party Favors

Display a plastic beach pail filled with sunglasses, flip-flops, sunscreen, a beach ball, and some lip balm. Other party favor ideas are a luau frame, seashell candles, or Hawaiian flower hair combs. Have a floral gift bag with coconut or Hawaiian floral scented lotion, bath soap, body wash, and a colorful loofah. Another fun thing to have out for people to do while they are there is to make their own Hawaiian lei. This is also something that they can take home to remember the occasion.

Luau Party Games

The traditional limbo will be a fun addition to your bridal shower. Another game is musical beach towels or mats, which is just like musical chairs but uses beach towels instead of chairs. For a memory game take a tray and put about 15 different beach items on the tray and have everyone look at the tray for a short time, then see how many of the items they can write down from the tray. The person that has the most items written down wins.

Banana race will have your guests laughing. Take string and tie a banana around the participants' waists; the banana will hang between their legs. Then the participants take the banana and try to hit a table tennis ball down to the finish line.

Spike A Mohawk

Get this wild hairstyle with a few simple ingredients.

Spike your Mohawk up as tall as possible if you are looking to make an intense and aggressive fashion statement. This hairstyle trend became popular in the 1980s when bands such as The Sex Pistols wore it with denim, leather and spikes all over the United Kingdom and then over to the United States. Thousands of rebellious teens followed suit and did their up the same way as their idols. If you are looking to spike your hair into a Mohawk, be aware that there are a number of media that can be used to get the look to stand up.

Instructions

White Glue

1. Use a readily available water-based white glue that can be found at department stores or art-supply stores. There are many types and brands available including Elmer's Glue, Aleene's Tacky Glue and Scotch Craft Glue. Products can be purchased in different thicknesses depending on how much strength that you need. Thicker hair or very tall styles will require a heavier solution.

2. Start with dry hair and spray it with hair spray to create a base. Stand that base up as much as possible.

3. Apply the glue to the ends of the base at the tips of the hair and allow to dry. Barring a rainstorm or random soaking, your spikes should survive just fine. For an extra layer of hold, apply hair spray to the style also.

Professional Glue

4. Use a commercially available spiking glue or gel to make the Mohawk stand tall. There are many brands available that are designed to produce extra-hard and strong results and increase the level of texture on the hair. This is a more expensive solution, but many people prefer professional products in their hair. Available products include Paul Mitchell's XTG Extreme Thickening Glue, Joico's ICE Spiker Water Resistant Styling Glue and got2b's Styling Spiking Glue.

5. Create a base with hair spray and use the professional-grade glue in the same way that you would use the white glue. Apply the glue to the tips of the hair.

6. Be aware that the glue is meant to be strong. You will not need as much professional-grade glue as you would white glue.

Gelatin

7. Use gelatin to create the Mohawk look. Any brand of food-grade gelatin will suffice. Stores often sell their own brands.

8. Pour a small amount of gelatin powder into a bowl (the size of a quarter or a 50-cent piece) and then slowly drip water on it until it is thick and gel-like.

9. Put the mixture into the microwave and cook it at five-second increments to create a stronger gel. Keep an eye on the thickness. The thicker the better, depending on the height of the style and thickness of your hair.

10. Apply the mixture to dry hair and shape to desired height. Use a hair dryer at a medium temperature to dry the style. Apply a strong hair spray to help to set the style and provide extra strength.

What You Need To Do A Kinky Hair Twist

Kinky twist is a natural style done with few products.

A kinky hair twist is the process of twisting your natural un-relaxed hair into individual twists to achieve a hairstyle. Although most twists are done on hair that is completely natural; kinky twists can also be achieved on hair that has been permed or relaxed, by adding hair extensions. The process of twisting your hair is very simple. Kinky twists can last up to a month on hair that has extensions added. However, if you are twisting your natural hair, the twist may only last a week.

Hair Extensions

To achieve a kinky twist with relaxed hair, hair extensions will need to be added. Afro kinky extensions are available for purchase at most African American beauty supply stores. The hair is synthetic and comes in two sections, packaged in one pack. The average pack costs $5.99 and comes in a variety of colors and lengths.

Styling Gel

Any type of hard hold styling gel will work best on kinky twists. The only way the hair, whether it is natural or relaxed, will stay twisted for a long period of time is determined by the styling gel used. The styling gel is applied to the hair before you start the twisting process. The hair will need to be heavily saturated with the gel for the twist to keep its hold.

Rat-tail Comb

Using a rat-tail comb will provide you with a straighter detailed line. Although the parts for kinky twist do not have to be perfect through the middle and back of the head, when you reach the front of the head, the part should be exact and very neat.

Small Curling Rod

Attaching a small curling rod to the ends of each twist provides a natural finishing look to the ends of the twist. It is also a great way to lock the style in place, as the curl makes it difficult for the twist to unravel. To keep the curl from not falling or deflating, attach the rod in a spiral motion and dip the ends of the twists in hot water and allow them to dry completely, before detaching the rod.

Oil

Spraying a few mists of oil-sheen on the twists will keep the hair shining as well as healthier. African-American hair tends to become dry faster than that of other ethnic groups. Therefore, oil-sheen should be applied once a day for every day the twists are in the hair. This also keeps the hair from becoming brittle, which can result in breakage.

Do a Kinky Twist

Part your hair in small squares in the pattern of your choice. If you are using extensions, wrap the hair around the part of your natural hair that you want to twist. Add styling gel to both your hair and the extension. If you are not using extensions, add the gel directly to your hair. Divide the hair in two sections. Holding one strand in each hand, lap the left strand over the right strand in a clockwise motion. Continue this process until you reach the end of the twist. Take a small curling rod and roll the end of the twist. Leave the rod on, while you complete the rest of your head. After your whole head is completely twisted, dip the ends of the rollers in hot water. Allow them to air dry and remove the rods. Spray the hair with oil and style as usual.
