Put In A Curly Perm

The beautiful, lush curls of a good perm make for a striking, enviable hairstyle. The look's versatility and easy maintenance make it a desirable style for many women. If you are thinking about trying to achieve this full-body look with a curly perm, there are some important tips to remember before embarking on this easy-to-achieve look.

Instructions

1. Buy a curly hair perm kit that is most appropriate for your hair type and texture. Find a kit that includes a pre-curl softening cream and hair cap.

2. Part your hair into sections with a dry comb. Open the small tube of curl activator and pour the solution into the larger squirt bottle container of curl gel. Wear the gloves provided and cover the cap of the squirt bottle with your forefinger. Shake vigorously until the perm solution has been mixed. Apply the pre-curl softening cream to your hair or gently coat your hair with Vaseline and allow to set for 10 minutes before applying the perm solution. Repart your hair into the same sections as before with a dry comb.

3. Wear the gloves provided with the kit (or a set of rubber gloves) and apply the perm solution from the squirt bottle into your palm. Gently rub the solution into your hair with your fingertips and massage the solution into separate pieces of your hair. Next, starting at the root, comb outwards and evenly, allowing the solution to set in your hair. For a deep-set curly perm, bring the perm solution all the way to the ends of your hair follicles. Apply the plastic cap (if provided) or shower cap over your hair and allow the solution to set for the recommend processing time on the kit. For thinner and finer hair, start off allowing the solution to process for only half the time recommended on the box kit.

4. Wash your hair evenly with warm water until the excess perm color is rinsed and the water runs clear. Repeat this process to insure your hair is fully clean. Depending on the quality of conditioner provided, apply your own separately purchased curly hair deep conditioner and allow the conditioner to set between five and 15 minutes (depending on your hair texture and type) under a hair or blow dryer. Blow dry your hair until lightly damp, then towel-dry. Spritz your hair with curling texturizer.
