Make A Bow With A Barrette

Though you can tie a bow in hair directly, having a bow on a barrette allows you to secure the bow better.

Using hair accessories is one way to change your look, or even hair style, without making a big commitment to a new hair cut or color. Bows and barrettes hold hair in place and can update a look instantaneously. Bows can be difficult to secure in hair, which is why using a bow attached to a barrette makes for an simpler method of achieving a pulled-back look with a bow as the focal centerpiece.

Instructions

1. Cut satin ribbon to a length of three yards and lay the ribbon out straight on a table. Make sure to have a sheet or paper underneath the ribbon to protect your work surface.

2. Place a dime size amount of glue on one end of the ribbon. Fold the ribbon over to form a circle and press down to attach the ends.

3. Fold the circle in half to find the midpoint. Place a dime size amount of glue on the inside of the ribbon circle and press down to form another connection point. You will now have two ovals. Glue the oval section together at the midpoint of each oval to repeat the process. This will form a looped bow.

4. Wrap a three- to four-inch piece of ribbon around the center of the bow to help hide the glue. Secure with a small amount of glue on the underside of the bow.

5. Place glue in a thin strip across the smooth top of the barrette. make sure to use a barrette made from plastic with no decorations, paint or objects on the top section. Place a thin strip of glue on the backside of the bow and press the bow to the barrette. Allow to dry before using.
