Deal With Straight Ends In A Perm

Hair appliances can help you to manipulate your straight ends.

Growing out a straight perm, or relaxer as they are also called, can be frustrating as your curls return to the top of your head yet the ends remain straight. The contrast in texture can make your hair difficult to style and it may even be somewhat unmanageable. While there is no way to remove the relaxer once it is on your hair, there are ways to make the transitional process easier to manage.

Instructions

1. Trim your straight ends to quicken the transition back to curly hair. The amount you cut depends on how much curly growth you have, along with how short you are willing to go. If you only have an inch or two to go, you may decide to go ahead and do away with the remainder of the straight portion. However, if the curly hair isn't even near your chin, then smaller trims may be in order.

2. Wear your hair up in a ponytail or braids. Tuck the straight ends under or hide them with elastic bands. Try various styles, such as high and low ponytails, one long braid down the back or two French braids on the sides of your head. You can also experiment with other types of updo's, such as a chignon.

3. Use a curling iron on the ends when wearing your hair down. Be careful; hair that has been chemically treated with products like a relaxer, can be damaged. Applying excessive heat can make the damage even worse. Use a low to medium heat setting and loosely wrap your hair around the iron for about 10 seconds.
