Graduation Party Hairstyles

Hair straighteners help create a sleek look.

Graduation parties are occasions of celebration, commemorating old friendships and signaling new beginnings. Wearing your hair in a different, more exciting style can help make the experience extra special. When choosing a hairstyle for a graduation party, consider your own personality and what you want to convey with your new look.

High Ponytail

For a high-energy, sporty look, pull your hair up into a high ponytail. For a sleeker, more high- fashion look, straighten your hair before pulling it up. For a more fun-loving, carefree effect, curl your hair before pulling it up into a ponytail. Wrap a strand of your hair around the hairband and secure it with bobby pins to make the hairdo look seamless. Alternatively, use a brightly-colored Scrunchie to create an exciting 1980s style.

Straight and Sleek

For a simple yet dramatic and sexy look, straighten your hair with a flat iron and wear it down. Part your hair down the middle or on the side, depending on which style you think better suits your face. Keep your hair in front of your ears, as tucking it behind the ears can create a more casual effect. This style works particularly well for young women with short, long or medium length hair. It is especially effective for women with angular haircuts, as the angles are emphasized by the straightener.

Bohemian Waves

For an easy going, earthy look, wear your hair down in waves. Create the waves with a large curling iron or by braiding your hair while it's wet and leaving the braids in overnight. When you remove the braids your hair will have formed large crimps that look like loose, curly waves. To add to the Bohemian look, braid your hair along your hairline to create a natural hairband or place a flower behind your ear held in place with bobby pins, if necessary.

Half-Up Pouf

For a chic, modern look, pull your hair back into a half-ponytail with a pouf. Create the pouf, or volume, by teasing the hair first before pulling it back and smoothing out its surface. A larger pouf will create a more dramatic look and smaller poufs simply add a bit more volume to your overall hairstyle. If you have bangs, it is still possible to create this look -- simply begin the pouf directly behind your bangs.
