Tighten Curls

Tighten Curls

If your hair is dull and in need of an update or maybe you have a perm that has lost its curl, you can tighten curls to give your hair a new and refreshed look. Even if you do not have a perm or natural curls, you can still create somewhat of a crimped appearance. Long hair will require more effort because of the extra weight, which has a tendency to lose curls. Follow the steps below to tighten curls for a revitalizing and fresh new style:

Instructions

1. Wash thoroughly and condition. Clean your hair as you usually do with a body building shampoo that is designed for your type of hair and be sure to use a good conditioner after washing it. Rinse the conditioner out completely or it may pull your curls down.

2. Towel dry. Hang your head upside down and scrunch your hair into the towel. Make sure to ring as much water out of your hair as possible before continuing your process to tighten your curls. Continue towel drying until your hair feels almost dry.

3. Apply styling product to your damp hair. Mousse, gel or styling spray can be used to tighten curls and there are styling aids that are made especially for enhancing curls. Use just the amount that is instructed, because too much product can hinder curls instead of tightening them. Comb the product through your hair to distribute it evenly and completely. If you have long hair, you may need to use more of the product than shorter hair will require.

4. Crunch with the towel again. After the styling product has been combed through, start scrunching your hair into the towel once more. Hold the towel in your hands while squeezing the hair between the fabric in a scrunching fashion. If you are using a styling spray, you should spray the hair frequently during your effort to tighten your curls. Keep scrunching until your curls are tightened and the desired look is achieved.

5. Diffuse, only if necessary. It would be best, if time allows, for your hair to air dry on its own. If you have to use the hair dryer, then you should definitely use a diffuser to tighten your curls. A diffuser is an addition to your hair dryer that lets you dry your hair without blowing all of the curls out.
