Loose Perm Styles

You can forget about curling irons when you get a permanent loose hairstyle.

Perm styles in the 21st century have come a long way from the 1980s poodle-inspired hairdos. The chemical technology has advanced so your stylist can control the tightness of the perm and work with the natural texture of your hair for a less damaging treatment. Loose perms add texture, waves or volume to hair. Keep in mind that no matter what style of perm you get, the style will relax, or loosen, in a few weeks.

Root Perms

A root perm adds volume to the root of any length or texture of hair. This type of perm will keep your natural hair texture while adding natural looking volume, so it may make already thick or voluminous hair look large. Root perms are a great way to upkeep any style of perm without damaging all of the hair with perm chemicals by just perming the new, flat hair that grows in. You will need to maintain the root perm -- whether by itself or as a part of any perm -- as it grows out, getting a new root perm once your hair starts to lose volume, every six to eight weeks.

Stack Perms

A stack perm uses perm chemicals and rollers stacked on top of each other through the hair to create volume in hair that isn't layered. Depending on the roller size, this type of perm can have small, tight curls or large, loose curls.

Spot Perms

A spot perm, or partial perm, focuses on one area of the hair, creating tight or loose curls depending on the size of the curlers used. You can use this kind of perm to even out partly wavy/partly curly hair, you can leave the first few inches of hair straight and curl the ends, just curl the very ends of the hair or add texture in a few full-length sections of the hair.

Multi-textured Perm

For a natural looking loose perm style to add to any natural hair texture or length, the multi-textured perm is perfect. Your stylist will use different sizes of curlers to create a look that doesn't appear manufactured but still gives you waves and texture.

Body Wave Perm

Popular with many celebrities, the body wave perm transforms straight hair into loose, even, flexible curls. When done to naturally wavy or curly hair, this type of perm will look much tighter, so this is best for people with straight hair to achieve the loose perm style.

Cut Thin Straight Hair

Thin, straight hair can be easily cut at home.

Though thin, straight hair can be flat and wispy, one of the upsides to it is that it is easy to cut. Unlike thick, curly hair, which can require difficult styling techniques during trimming, thin, straight hair can be easily cut bluntly at the ends. Cutting your own hair rather than going to a salon is an easy way to save money.

Instructions

1. Fill the spray bottle with water and spray your hair -- or the hair of the person getting the haircut -- until it is damp.

2. Comb the damp hair until all of the tangles are removed.

3. Pin all of the hair up on the top of the head in 8 to 10 sections, using a separate hair pin for each section. Once all the hair is pinned, let the farthest section on one side of the head down, so that it hangs loose.

4. Comb the loose section of hair downward and hold the ends of the hair between your forefinger and middle finger -- as if in a closed peace sign. Allow the amount of hair you want to trim off to protrude from the bottom of the scissors.

5. Trim the hair using slow, precise snips of the scissors. Make sure to cut the hair as evenly as possible as you go.

6. Once the loose section is finished, leave it down and unpin the section of hair closest to the loose section. Comb this section downward and hold the hair between your forefinger and middle finger. If this section has dried out, respray it with your water bottle, before combing it. Trim this section of hair the same way you trimmed the first.

7. Continue letting down sections of hair and trimming them, until all sections are complete.

8. Once all of the sections of hair have been trimmed, respray the hair and comb the hair downwards. Looking carefully along the ends, cut away any pieces of hair or sections that do not match the length of the rest of the hair.

Instructions For Putting Hair In A Bun

A bun is a simple way to wear your hair and look dressed up. There are many types of buns, from classic to elegant to messy. Your hair type, where you're going and what outfit you'll be wearing will determine which type of bun is right for your hair. A classic bun is the most common and quickest type of bun to style.

Classic Bun

For a classic bun, you will need a ponytail holder and some bobby pins. Pull all of your hair back into a ponytail and use an elastic band to hold it in place, if desired. If you have some short pieces of hair, you may want to dampen your hair after putting it in the ponytail. For a slicked-back look, wet your entire head before putting hair into a ponytail.

Tightly twist the entire length of the ponytail. To begin creating the bun, wrap the twist around itself. When you come to the end, tuck the end under the outside coil and secure with a bobby pin. Use a few more bobby pins around the base of the bun to hold it in place. Tame any loose pieces of hair by tucking them into the bun and securing them with hair spray or bobby pins.

You can also use a hair stick--available where hair accessories are sold--to hold the bun in place. If using a hair stick, begin the bun the same way. When you are finished wrapping the twist around itself, hold the bun in place with one hand and push a hair stick into the outside coil of the bun with your other hand. Do this carefully, allowing the tip of the hair stick to just touch your head before coming out the other side of the bun. To hold the bun securely, it is recommended that you use another hair stick poked through the bun on the opposite side, creating an X. If you notice some shorter pieces of hair falling out after the bun is in place, use bobby pins to secure them.

Tips

Classic buns are easy to make, but can still have a bit of flair. Give your bun personality by braiding the ponytail before twisting it into a bun. Adding accessories will also give it a more creative look. Hair sticks come in many designs, with such things as beads and crystals added. Elastic ponytail holders come in a variety of colors and designs as well. Dress up your bun and match the accessories to your outfit.

If you want a more intricate bun you can find all sorts of bun styles in fashion and beauty magazines, which often include step-by-step instructions for each style.

Curl Your Hair Using A 3barrel Iron

Make your hair look like it's naturally curly.

"I love your hair! How did you do it?" There's no better compliment than having total strangers walk up to you out of the blue and speak those words nearly everywhere you go. If sexy, S-shaped curls are something you've always wanted but struggled to achieve without expensive trips to the salon, learning use a three-barrel curling iron may be just the answer. Although this particular style can take up to 90 minutes to create, the curls can last three to five days, making your average styling time only 15 to 30 minutes per day.

Instructions

1. Shampoo and condition your hair. If you frequently use styling products, such as sprays, gel and mousse, remove any buildup of residue by shampooing again, or use a clarifying shampoo before conditioning.

2. Comb through damp hair gently with a pick or wide-toothed comb to remove tangles. Blow dry your hair using an electric hair dryer, or allow it to air dry. If your hair isn't naturally straight, take a few minutes to straighten it with a flat iron before moving on to Step 3 to make the curling process go much more smoothly.

3. Make a zigzag part down the top center of your hair using your pick or pointed tip comb. Section your hair into three 4-inch sections -- one down the back, and the other two on the left and right sides. You will be curling the back section first, so tie the left and right sides out of the way using hair ties, as if creating temporary ponytails.

4. Create six to eight horizontal sections (about 1/2-inch thick each) in the back section, beginning at the crown of your head and working your way down to the base of your neck. Twist and clip each section of hair as you go, alternately to the left and right, out of the way of the section below. Do not clip the last (bottom) section, because this is the first section you will curl.

5. Wrap a hand towel around the back of your neck to protect yourself from burns. Comb the first (bottom) section several times to remove all tangles. Spray the hair lightly from roots to tips with styling spray or hair spray. While holding the section of hair taut between your index and middle finger with your left hand, clamp the three-barrel iron onto the hair with your right hand. To achieve the best results, position the iron as close to the scalp as possible without risking a burn. Depending on the thickness and strength of your hair, leave the iron in place between 15 and 45 seconds.

6. Open the three-barrel iron clamp, and slide the iron down until the lowest S-wave in your hair matches up with the top barrel of the iron; reclamp. Use a hand mirror to guide you. Continue working your way down until the entire section of hair is curled. Repeat this process for the remaining sections in the back of your head, working from the neck up to the crown.

7. Repeat Steps 4, 5 and 6 for the left and right sides. The final top sections on either side of your zigzag part are the most important, because they will be the most visible. Getting the iron as close to the scalp as possible without risking a burn creates the look of natural curls.

8. Allow the hair to settle for five to 10 minutes, then gently finger fluff all your curls, paying particular attention to blending the back and side section seams. Avoid combing or brushing your hair, which removes curl and creates frizz.

Shave Your Head With A Straight Razor

Shave your head the old-fashioned way.

Straight razors were once the primary way for men and women to shave. Today, there are far more options on the market, but some still use a straight razor in order to get an old fashioned, close shave. Most shaving aficionados will tell you that the only way to get a shave that lasts, with no nicks or bumps, is to use a straight razor. However, if you are not practiced in using a straight razor, it may be difficult to get a close, nick-free shave on your first try. Practice makes perfect with this straight razor technique, and you will get better at it with time.

Instructions

1. Shave or cut your hair with an electric razor or scissors to about 1/2 inch from your scalp.

2. Prepare your scalp. Take a hot shower and rub your hair vigorously with shampoo. Rinse your head with warm water and towel dry your hair.

3. Apply shaving cream to your scalp. Consider heating up the shaving cream by running the bottle under hot water. Use your fingers or a shaving brush to apply the shaving cream in a circular motion.

4. Run the straight razor across your scalp at a 20-degree angle. Be careful not to cut your skin, but get as close a shave as possible. Shave with-the-grain of your hair. Re-apply shaving cream and shave again.

5. Rinse your scalp with cold water. If you have any cuts, dab them with hydrogen peroxide.

Make A Hairbow Holder

A hair bow holder keeps these small accessories neat and organized.

Many small girls have a vast collection of hair bows that threaten to overtake their dresser, the bathroom or even the entire house. These small accessories are easy to lose or break and may seem like excellent toys to cats and dogs in the house. Keep your child's hair bows corralled with a handy hair bow holder. This organizational tool can be made in a short amount of time with simple craft supplies. You can even spruce it up to match the decor of a bedroom or bathroom.

Instructions

1. Select a piece of blank canvas that is large enough to hold all of your child's hair bows neatly. The bows should not have to overlap to fit on the canvas. If you have a large collection, lay the bows out side by side on the floor with about an inch between each bow, and measure the space needed to accommodate your collection. Add at least 4 inches to either the length or width to accommodate future purchases. If your child collects new hair bows on a regular basis, you may even consider doubling the size to provide plenty of room for an expanding collection.

2. Cut a piece of fabric to the same shape as your canvas with an additional 2 inches on every side.

3. Stretch the fabric over the canvas and secure with the staple gun on the back. Make sure that the design on the fabric is centered before you begin stapling. Begin with a staple in the center of the top of the fabric. Add staples every 3 or 4 inches across the top. Secure the bottom of the fabric second, and finish the sides last.

4. Fold the corners of the fabric in neatly to make square corners and secure each corner with a staple. Trim off excess fabric.

5. Cut lengths of ribbon long enough to span the entire canvas from top to bottom plus an extra 3 to 4 inches. The ribbon should be at least 1 inch thick to securely hold the bows. Large hair bows may need ribbon 1 1/2 to 2 inches thick. You can use more than one type of ribbon if needed to accommodate a varied hair bow collection. Lay the ribbons on the canvas at even intervals and adjust until you are satisfied with their placement. The hair bows will hang from these ribbons, so they should be spaced far enough apart to allow plenty of room for each bow.

6. Staple the ribbons to the top of the canvas. If you would like, you can also staple the ribbon to the bottom of the canvas. If you leave the ribbon free, however, it may be easier to add and remove hair bows from the holder.

7. Trim the ribbons as needed so that they do not overhang the canvas backing.

8. Clip hair bows to the ribbons to store them. If your bows are very large, you may find them slipping down the ribbons. To keep them in place, cut two small slits in the ribbon and thread the back of the hair bow through these holes before securing it.

Do Pinup Girl Hair Styles

Curlers can help you achieve a pinup girl look.

Many women wear their hair simply. Ponytails, messy buns or long, loose waves are the order of the day, and they rarely require anything more than a hairbrush and a rubber hand. While basic hairstyles are great for daily life, sometimes you want to add a bit of glamour to your look. Mimicking the pinup girls of the 1940s and 1950s is one way to get a new look that'll capture attention and invite admiration wherever you go.

Instructions

Basic Curls

1. Spray your hair once with water from a spray bottle and then scrunch your hair in your hands. You want it to be just a tiny bit damp, not dripping at all. Brush your hair until you can run your fingers through it without them getting caught.

2. Take a section of hair and hold it out from your head. Put a hot roller on top of the very end of your hair and roll it toward your head, so the roller stays over your hair on the first roll, not under. When the entire section of hair is rolled up, pin it to your head.

3. Continue rolling your hair, using small sections, until each piece of your hair is pinned in curlers on your head.

4. Spray your hair all over with hairspray. Use a blow dryer set to a very high heat to dry your hair completely. Then let the rollers in your hair cool down for one hour.

5. Remove the pin from a single curl and unroll the hair. Spray the curl as soon as the roller is removed. Repeat with each curler on your head. When you're done, spray all of your hair again; then use your fingers to comb through your hair and train each curl to your liking.

6. Add a cute, polka-dotted headband that matches the colors in your outfit to complete the look.

Victory Rolls

7. Divide your hair into two sections, so that you have a straight part down the back of your head.

8. Pull out one entire section of hair and place a sponge roller at the end of the section.

9. Roll the hair around the sponge roller until it is on top of your head, being sure the roller is completely obscured from view.

10. Pin the roller in place. Repeat actions with the second section of your hair.

11. Pin a flower into one of the rollers to complete the look.

What Is The Difference Between A Hydroxy Acid & Alpha

Hydroxy acids are used to exfoliate skin

As more and more people want to keep skin looking younger, they investigate different ingredients. One family of ingredients---hydroxy acids---can cause confusion.

What is a hydroxy acid?

Sugarcane extract is an alpha hydroxy acid

A hydroxy acid is a family of ingredients commonly used in topical skin care and cosmetics. There are two types: alpha hydroxy acid and beta hydroxy acid.

Both are used for exfoliating, or removing, cells from the upper layer of the skin. They are also used for their antiseptic properties, which is why they also appear in hair care and body care products.

Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs)

Alpha hydroxy acids are powerful exfoliants often used in chemical peels. The benefits are often associated with minimizing, reducing or eliminating signs of skin aging such as undesirable skin tone (age spots) and skin texture (fine lines and wrinkles). AHAs are also used in acne products. AHAs are water soluble, meaning they dissolve in water.

Because of their potentially severe action, AHAs are used at different levels in consumer, professional and prescription strengths. Consumer products usually have levels of 10 percent or less. Professional products---those used by estheticians and other beauty professionals---have AHA levels between 20 percent to 30 percent. Prescription products---those only available through a doctor---have AHA levels between 50 percent and 70 percent.

Common AHA ingredients are glycolic acid, lactic acid, citric acid, malic acid, fruit acids and sugar cane extract.

Beta hydroxy acids (BHAs)

Willow extract is a beta hydroxy acid

Some claim that BHAs offer all the benefit of AHAs---improved skin texture and tone---without the irritation AHAs are known for.

BHAs are most often used to fight acne or breakouts because they are lipid soluble. This means they dissolve in fat, which makes them better able to penetrate skin pores where sebum and dead skin cells are stored.

Common BHA ingredients are salicylic acid, salicylate, sodium salicylate, tropic acid and willow extract.

Ingredient labeling

Products with AHAs and BHAs must list it on the package

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration require any product containing AHAs or BHAs to list the ingredient and how active it is on a percentage basis.

Consult a professional

Talk with a dermatologist or esthetician before starting to use any product with AHAs or BHAs.

Warning

AHAs can 'burn.' Do a patch test before using any product with AHAs.

AHAs are known to increase sun sensitivity. Consumers have more to worry about than sunburn. The use of AHAs can also increase risk for skin cancer. Anyone using a product with AHA is strongly encouraged to use a sunscreen of at least 30 spf, applied every couple of hours.

Stop using the product immediately if any burning, itching, redness, blisters, welts or other undesirable symptom appears.

Relax A Perm With Home Remedies

Relax a perm at home

Perms can vary greatly in their intensity. Sometimes perms produce loose, gentle waves, whereas other perms may create tight, spiraled curls. If you find that your perm is too tight and you wish to relax it, you can do so with a variety of home remedies.

Instructions

1. Wash your hair with a moisturizing shampoo. If you received your perm within the past 72 hours, shampoo your hair as soon as possible. This will help to remove some of the perm's chemicals from your hair before they fully set the curl.

2. Apply moisturizing conditioner to your hair.

3. Comb your hair completely straight while the conditioner is still in your hair. Wait 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing it out. Continue combing your hair while you wait.

4. Rinse your hair and then repeat the process. Shampoo, condition, comb, wait and rinse again.

5. Put a hot oil treatment on your hair. This will help to add weight and gloss to your hair, thus relaxing the perm's curls. Use a hot oil treatment two times a week for more relaxation.

6. Soak your hair in olive oil. This will add lots of shine to your hair while also weighing down the curls. The result will be looser, gentler curls and very shiny hair.

List Of Party Layered Hairstyles

Change your look from day to night with curls.

Layers can help increase the options you have while attempting to change up your look for a party or any occasion. Layered hair has unequal lengths, is versatile and stylish and allows you to do many different hairstyles. You can change your layered look from day to night, by adding accessories such as barettes or rhinestones, slicking the hair back with gel or creating an updo.

Short & Choppy

A very defined, short layered haircut can be easily transformed into a party look. Create this look by blow drying the hair from root to tip with a round brush. Straighten the bangs and add a dime-size amount of styling gel. To finish off the look, sweep the bangs to the side and secure with a an embellished hairpin.

Medium Layers

Medium, or chin-length styles have slightly less definition and texture than the "Short & Choppy" styles, but look just as chic. Create a sexy casual updo by working curl activating gel through wet hair; use a diffusing blowdryer to dry and wave the hair. Use a round brush on the bangs only and sweep the bangs to the side and flip out as you are drying them. Part the hair on one side, place the hair into a side ponytail, loop with a knot and secure with bobby pins. Set the hair with hairspray.

Long Layers

With long layers, an up-do is a way to look chic and sophisticated for a party. First straighten the hair by blow-drying with a paddle brush. Place the hair into a straight or side bun, but leave out your bangs and a small piece on each side of the head. Use a flat iron to make the pieces you left out extra straight, then spray the entire head with hairspray.

Wavy Layers

Glossy waves work for medium and long layered hair, and provide a glamorous party look. On damp hair, apply a moderate amount of styling cream and part the hair on the side. Blow dry the hair, spray with styling spray and curl the bottom layers of the hair with a large barreled curling iron to keep the curls at the bottom of the head. Once finished curling, work shine serum through the curls to add shine and separate.

Make Thin Stringy Hair Look Fuller

A hat is a great cover-up for bad hair days.

You see pictures in a magazine of models with gorgeous hair full of volume. Ripe with hairstyling ideas and various hair products, you attempt to recreate the looks you see in the mirror. These styling attempts may be in vain if you have stringy hair. Thin hair makes hairstyling difficult because hair tends to look greasy and lifeless after you weigh it down with hair products. Before you give up on your thin stringy hair and cover your hair with a hat for good, learn a few tips on making your hair look fuller.

Instructions

1. Skip washing your hair daily. Use a dry shampoo in between washing because it will attach to your hair strands and make it appear fuller. Hair products cling better to unwashed hair.

2. Wash your hair with a volumizing shampoo designed for thin hair. Use a lightweight conditioner designed for thin hair. Avoid applying conditioner to the roots of your hair, as this will only weigh down your roots and make your hair look flat.

3. Make an appointment for a haircut. A chin-length bob with graduated or even ends can make your hair look fuller. Another option is a shoulder-length haircut with long layers that frame the face. Cut off dead ends and damaged hair. Although you may hate to cut these ends because you will lose length, your hair will look less stringy without them.

4. Make an appointment to color your hair. Hair color will swell up the hair cuticles and make your hair look thicker. Discuss with a hair colorist the best shades for your skin tone that will make your hair look thicker. Using multiple shades of highlights at the roots can make your hair look fuller.

5. Use hair products like mousse and hairspray designed for thin hair that have the ingredients resin, silicon, panthenol and protein. These ingredients will leave deposits that cling to your hair strands, which will make your hair appear thicker. Avoid gels because they can weigh down hair and make thin hair look stringy.

6. Work in a volumizing mousse throughout your hair, from roots to ends. Flip your head upside down when you blow dry it. Aim the blow dryer on a medium setting toward your roots and brush hair forward with a vent brush. Once hair is almost dry, flip your head right side up and use a medium-sized round brush and continue drying it.

7. Lift your hair up from the roots with your fingers as you dry. Aim your hairdryer on a cool setting at these roots to lock in the style. Smooth your fluffed-up hair gently with your hands or with a bristle brush. Avoid overbrushing your hair so as not to lose the volume.

8. Part your hair in a slightly messy zigzag to create the visual illusion that your hair is thicker than it actually is.

Hairstyles With A Flower

Flowers in the hair can be combined with just about any outfit to create a sense of elegance, grace or even care-free fun. For fancy events, be sure to match the flower to the outfit and/or makeup. Although live flowers are generally used, the properly chosen high-quality silk flower can stand in as a substitute.

Flower On Top

Flowers can be worn on top of your hair--either with your tresses hanging down, or pulled up. A flower on top will either serve as a crown or a centerpiece on your head. A small bouquet (made of tiny to medium blossoms) can be arranged for a fancy event like a prom or a wedding. Pin the hair atop the head behind the flower, or in back of the head (in a braid or bun).

Under Ear

Flowers can be pinned under the ear with hair pinned above it in an up-do, or with the hair streaming loosely behind it. As an alternative, pull the hair into a horizontal hair roll, and then pin a half-crown of flowers underneath the up-do, just beneath the crest.

Over Ear

For a care-free, exotic hairstyle, a lily or tropical flower can be placed behind the ear with the hair left down and loose. This style looks spontaneous and eye-catching, and can be used with casual outfits.

Side

A French twist with flowers woven into the crest on the side makes an elegant statement at parties and in ballrooms. Use a cluster of small flowers, or a single long blossom that accentuates the shape of the hairstyle. Alternatively, a single braid on the side of the hair with a few small flowers woven into it is a more casual and whimsical option.

Bottom

A flower can be placed at the bottom of a braid or twist left hanging down the back, creating a fun surprise for the people standing behind you.

Crown

A crown of flowers can top the head with hair loose and down. As an alternative to the traditional flower-crown, the hair can be pinned back in a bun and the ring of flowers can line the crest of the bun. For another option, braid your hair into a crown braid and weave a number of smaller flowers into the braid.

How Much Money Do You Need To Buy A Condo

How Much Money Do You Need to Buy a Condo?

Condominiums can provide a low-cost way for you to become a homeowner, and typically are less expensive than single-family homes. In most respects, the purchase of a condominium is like the purchase of a traditional house; both use mortgages, both have property taxes. However, condominiums also require the periodic (usually monthly) payment of homeowner dues to pay for the general maintenance of common areas around the condominium. All of these factors affect the amount of money needed to buy a condominium.

Down Payment

A traditional down payment equals 20 percent of the purchase price of the condominium. However, it is possible to purchase a condominium with mortgages that use smaller down payments. In fact, in some instances, it is possible to enter a mortgage with a 3 percent down payment. A higher down payment will reduce the monthly mortgage bill and can help prevent the application of mortgage insurance (PMI) to the mortgage, which further reduces the ongoing amount of money needed on a monthly basis to buy a condominium.

Income to Mortgage Comparison

Generally, lenders limit mortgages on condominiums and other home purchases so that the monthly mortgage bill will not exceed 28 percent of one's gross monthly income. For people with low incomes, it is possible that the 28 percent guideline may be a barrier to buying any condominium. For those with higher incomes, the guideline can set upper parameters on the amount that a lender will be willing to loan.

Income to Total Debt Comparison

In addition to limiting the amount available to buy a condominium based on the size of the expected mortgage, lenders also consider overall debt-to-income ratios. The process used for this analysis is similar to that for comparing the mortgage to income. However, rather than looking solely at the mortgage, the lender adds all debts (including the potential mortgage) into the math. Generally, the debt-to-income ratio should not exceed 36 percent. Consequently, the amount of money needed to buy a condominium may increase if debts need to be paid off before a mortgage can be attained.

Homeowner Association Dues

In addition to the bills from paying taxes and the mortgage, one should expect to pay monthly homeowner association (HOA) dues. These dues are used to maintain common areas on the property, to pay for shared insurance and community needs. The amount that you need to buy a condo will vary with the potential for assessments by the HOA and with the financial condition of the association.

Do A Beach Wave In Hair

Capture the effortless look of a beach vacation without leaving your own home.

Many women have experienced a "beach wave" during the summer: loose, flowing hair, typically created by a combination of sunshine and being in the water all day. The beach wave calls up memories of a relaxing vacation and brings a note of warmth to your look all year long. Creating a beach wave during cooler months isn't quite as simple as letting nature do all the work, but with some styling tips you can recreate the look at home.

Instructions

Styling for a Beach-Inspired Look

1. The first step to a beach wave involves dividing hair into two pigtails.

Divide your hair into manageable sections. According to Haircut Hairstyles, it's best to deal with your hair while damp after a shower. Part the hair down the middle and gather it into two pigtails, which you can then secure with hair elastics. Apply hairspray of your choice (many companies make hairspray designed specifically for beach styles). After applying the hairspray, divide each pigtail into two strands and coil them together, like a simple braid.

2. Pin the hair and allow it to set overnight. Once you have two simple pigtails, according to Haircut Hairstyles, you can pin them securely on the top of your head (like a milkmaid braid). After this, you can allow your hair to stay pinned overnight. While you sleep, your hair will dry naturally. The hairspray will help keep your hair in the desired shapes. Alternatively, if you don't want to wait overnight, you can use a blow-dryer on your pinned pigtails.

3. Unpin and style the hair with a tousled, natural look. Once the pigtails are dry, take off the pins and hair elastics. Bend your head and let your hair fall loose. This will allow the waves to settle naturally and develop body and volume. If you'd like the beach wave to last longer or if you have fine hair and would like more volume and texture, you can add a second styling product.

1950s Pinup Girls' Hairstyles

Hairstyles change as the years pass, but some remain in our memories for quite some time after. The 1950s pinup girls' hairstyles worn by both celebrities and ordinary women alike are one example. Some styles such as the French twist are ageless, because of their suitability for formal and dressy occasions. Other modern hairstyles are variations of older styles.

Bouffant

You could wear a small bouffant, such as the one that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis made popular, or a beehive, in which as much hair as possible was piled high on top of your head. It took a lot of hairspray and hair pins to create this style. Once you got it right, you wanted it to last as long as possible before you had to have it redone.

Poodle Cut

A poodle cut was a short, curly style made popular by the famous redhead, Lucille Ball. You wanted the hair on top to be brushed forward and styled in curls or ringlets that resembled the topknot on a poodle's head. The sides were brushed back slightly, for a sleek, yet wavy, look.

This was a fairly easy style to achieve and maintain, which is one reason it was so popular. You did not have to use a lot of pins or clips, just enough to hold the hair in place, with some hairspray to keep everything where it belonged.

French Twist

This classic style, worn so well by Audrey Hepburn, is still popular today, especially when you update it with modern hair accessories such as jeweled hair or bobby pins. You can also weave strands of pearls or beads into the twist itself.

The twist starts with you gathering your hair into a low ponytail, right at the base of your skull. You then twist the pony tail either to the left or right, depending on where you want your finished twist to be, until you feel it tighten.

Fasten the twisted ponytail with a covered elastic band and then hold the ponytail straight up. Make a halfway twist and secure that with hairpins, then finish twisting the rest of the ponytail. Anchor with pins as you go so that your style will remain in place.

Flip

This style, often worn by Doris Day, is still worn by some people today and in fact has made a bit of a comeback. It can be worn as a variation on the bouffant style, or it can be styled to lay flat against your head. The main characteristic is the flipped-up hair at the bottom. The flip is meant to go all the way around.

As long as you have enough hair to flip, you can wear this style. It lends itself well to short, medium-length or long hair.

Pin Curls

Bobby pins or clips that used a pincer method to grasp the hair could be used on this style. When styled in this manner, your hair has waves all through it, much like those worn by Rita Hayworth. The size of the wave depended on how long or short your hair was. Short hair would have smaller, tighter waves, while longer hair would have more flowing waves.

Lebanese Wedding Gifts

Lebanese wedding gifts may be challenging to find and select.

Choosing a gift for a Lebanese wedding may be a challenge, especially if the etiquette for the particular wedding you are attending is to give something traditionally and/or culturally Lebanese. It can be a safe bet to veer towards purchasing a religious gift if you know for certain what type of religious wedding it may be, otherwise, arts, crafts, and literature might be the way to go.

Lebanese Pottery

Pottery as an art and craft in Lebanon has been an integral part of the life and culture in that country for centuries and continues to thrive. Commonly made items include eating utensils, molded bowls, and Phonecian wine jars, which are usually cylindrical in shape with small round handles on either side. These jars commonly feature earth colors and spiral designs meant to symbolize good luck and holy water.

St. Charbel Paraphernalia

St. Charbel was a Lebanese Maronite Catholic monk and priest who was later venerated as a saint. If the Lebanese couple in question is Catholic, perhaps a rosary, pendant, or Christmas ornament with St. Charbel's likeness may be a great choice. Lebanon is also known for woodcarving, and especially wooden beads, so choosing a pendant, ornament or rosary made out of the traditional olive and cedar of Lebanon is in order.

Khalil Gibran Literature

The essays and poetry of Khalil Gibran, the third best-selling poet of all time, may be an ideal gift for anyone, but especially those who appreciate Lebanese literature.

Khalil Gibran is perhaps one of the most well-known writers and poets of Lebanon, and the third best-selling poet of all time. His most widely-known publication in the English world is "The Prophet," which is a collection on philosophical poetic essays. Otherwise, there are at least 15 collections of his English poetry currently in print, as well as eight other publications in Arabic.

What Supplies Do I Need To Paint

Paint, medium, solvents and a canvas will get you started painting.

If you want to get into painting, the first decision you have to make is whether to go with acrylic or oil painting. Acrylic is easier to begin with because the paint is water soluble and clean up is simpler. Oil paints, however, because they dry slower, have more open time, that is, time to work on the paint while it can still be manipulated. If you don't have good ventilation, acrylic is a better choice as there are fewer fumes.

Paints

Both acrylic and oil paints come in almost identical color lines, and the same pigments are used for both. You will want a range of colors to start, but not too many. Part of the fun of painting is learning to mix paint, so stay with the basic 12 to 14 colors and add more as you learn. A red, orange, yellow, blue, green and purple are essential. From there, pick up a white and a black and some earth colors, which are very versatile. Burnt sienna, raw sienna, burnt umber and raw umber are good earth color choices.

Brushes

Pick up a variety of brushes to get the best control of your paint application. Flat brushes are chisel-shaped and good for painting larger areas of a painting. They come in numbered sizes, and a 2, a 6 and a 10 are a good place to start. Round brushes in the same numbers (2, 6 and 10) will be adequate and are good for details and lines. Stay away from fancy brushes like fan brushes at the beginning; these brushes look fun but have limited uses. With artist's brushes, as with most artist's supplies, you pretty much get what you pay for. More expensive brushes will work better and cause you less frustration as you are learning, but you don't need to get the best if you are a beginning artist. Brushes for acrylics are synthetic bristle; those for oil are natural (usually hog) bristle.

Support

The surface you paint on is called the support. You can get a stretched canvas at the art supply store, canvas board is a cheaper alternative and you can even paint on paper. If the surface is not yet primed with gesso to protect it (as with paper or raw canvas) you will need to prepare the surface with three layers of acrylic gesso. All the above mentioned primed supports are fine for oil or acrylic.

Other supplies

Mediums are used to mix paints and make them more liquid. Pre-mixed alkyd resin mediums are good for oil as they speed drying. You need mineral spirits to clean up oil paint. Water is fine for acrylic paint both as a solvent and for clean up. Rags are helpful for clean up and pushing paint around on the canvas or removing it. Some cans are useful to hold solvent and for mixing large amounts of paint. A palette is vital. Paper palettes are fine and easier to clean that traditional wooden palettes. A palette knife will help you mix paints.

Steps To Relax Black Hair

Among the many different hair types, from naturally curly and thick to straight and thin, the desire for change is sometimes inevitable. The array of styles and types from which to select the "perfect look" can sometimes be overwhelming. Go with the best style that suits and pleases you.

Instructions

1. Separate hair into four parts. The first thing you want to do before applying relaxer is to make sure the hair is evenly divided into four parts or sections (this will make the process a whole lot easier). Part the hair straight down the middle, then straight across (you can start parting across by the top of the ear).

2. Base the scalp. Once the hair is evenly divided into four, grease the scalp and the edges of the hair to avoid burning. If you are using a no-lye relaxer burning is usually unlikely, unless you have really sensitive skin. Greasing and basing the edges of hair means around the forehead, ears, and the neckline (wherever the hair ends in the back).

3. Apply relaxer. Using a relaxer brush (you can find these at any beauty store), start at the top of one of the back sections and apply relaxer to the roots of the hair until complete section is done, then move on to the next.

4. Wash out relaxer. Once all the hair is relaxed use a neutralizing shampoo to wash out relaxer. Continue washing until lathered shampoo is no longer pink, but white (this make take several washings).

5. Apply Conditioner. Many relaxer kits will come with everything you need to begin and complete the process. After the hair is relaxer free, apply either the conditioner that came with the kit or your own, and then comb through for an even spread. You can allow the conditioner sit on the hair for a few minutes, sit under the dryer with the conditioner, or wash it right out. Allowing the conditioner to sit for a while (3 to 5 minutes) provides more body and conditioning to the hair and also give a softer look and feel.

6. Apply setting lotion or leave-in conditioner and style. After rinsing out conditioner, use setting lotion or leave-in conditioner to detangle and hair, then style hair according to your desire. You can choose to blow dry, sit under a domed or bonnet dryer or leave hair wet.

Do Your Hair Like Hermione

Hermione Granger, top student at Hogwarts and best friend of Harry Potter, has been sporting a signature hairstyle since her first appearance in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." Her long, messy locks can be easily re-created by following a few simple steps.

Instructions

Do Your Hair Like Hermione

1. Spray your hair with water until it is wet but not soaked. When hair is wet throughout, use a comb to part hair into four sections, separating each with a hair tie.

2. Carefully braid the first section, starting as high as you can and continuing to about half an inch away from the bottom. Resecure the braid with the hair tie that originally held the section. Repeat until all four sections are tightly braided and secured.

3. Lightly mist the braids with hair spray and wait for hair to air dry. This could take a couple of hours, so if you want to sport the hairstyle early in the morning, it might be best to do the braids at night and then sleep on them.

4. Remove all the hair ties after the braids have completely dried and gently shake them out with your fingers. Add extra hair spray to keep the style voluminous, teasing the roots with a comb if necessary.

What Boots Look Fashionable On Mature Women

Boots belong in every woman's closet, regardless of age.

Whether it's sunny and breezy or damp and drizzling, a pair of boots trumps just about all other shoes in the closet for style and comfort. To the relief of many women who are no longer 20 something (or maybe no longer 40 something), the days are gone when mature women were bound to drab, frumpy shoe choices. If selected thoughtfully, boots make a great complement to outfits on women of any age.

Sizing Up the Heel

Possibly the most important factor to consider when choosing age-appropriate boots is heel height. A heel that's too high for women over a certain age is impractical and may cause unnecessary discomfort. Ideally, the heel should not exceed 3 or 4 inches at most, to maintain a proper level of sophistication and taste. The wise, mature woman will leave those stiletto boots in the past with mini-skirts and string bikinis.

Riding Boots

Because of its refined, classic nature, the riding boot is ideal for cultivated, mature women. Defining characteristics of these boots usually include flat heels and tall leather reaching just below the knee. Though they may have side or back zippers, traditional riding boots are often a slip-on style. In black, camel, cognac or mahogany colors, a riding boot is the epitome of polished elegance. Pair these with slim pants or mid-calf dresses with tights and be ready for work or play.

Ankle Boots

Boots at ankle height are captivating and convenient. For day or night, an ankle boot can make a sensational pairing with dresses, skirts, slim pants and denim. In various styles, such as the motorcycle boot, which has a loose top opening and braiding or other bohemian elements at the ankle, or boots narrowing at the ankle with short, wedge-style heels, the mini-boot is sure to give a mature woman's aesthetic a leg up.

Over the Knee

For women possessing extraordinarily bold style and fashion sense, over-the-knee boots are on trend and can make a perfectly chic selection. The keys to pulling them off are simple, tasteful selections in the ensemble and, of course, confidence. Without these, over the knee can look over the top. An appropriate ensemble for this show-stopping shoe might be slim, dark denim, an over-sized sweater and a scarf. As with any major style element, keep jewelry and other accessories minimal.

Haircut Ideas For Long Hair With Side Swept Bangs

Long hair with bangs helps hide forehead wrinkles.

Having an attractive haircut inspires self confidence and sets the tone for your style. Long hair with side swept bangs offers many options for stylish haircuts, depending on the amount of time you want to spend on styling and maintenance. Whether your hair is straight, wavy or curly or whether you are 20-something or a mature women, there is a haircut for long hair with bangs just right for you.

Wispy Waves

Women with some natural wave to their hair can make the most of their natural beauty by playing up those waves. Ask your stylist to cut in some long layers in the bottom layers of your hair to decrease weight, allowing your waves to bounce. A few face-framing layers in the front help blend in your side swept bangs. To style, after shampooing and conditioning your long hair, apply a glossing product while your hair is still damp to play up your hair's natural shine and help get your waves noticed. Glossing products often help keep your hair in place and decrease flyaways.

Loose Curls

If you enjoy wearing your long hair with loose curls at the ends and your bangs off to the side, ask your stylist to cut mid-length layers throughout your hair. This gives your haircut texture and shape and helps your curls hold a little longer than hair cut all one length. To create your curls, blow dry your hair straight and inward at the bottom, using a radial brush. Then, use a large-barreled curling iron to create loose curls. Apply a small amount of wax to your fingertips and apply to curls for longer staying power. Spray all of your hair with a light amount of hairspray to keep your style in place.

Long Layers

Haircuts featuring long layers throughout allow you to blend your bangs into your overall style This style works well for women with fine, straight hair. Ask your stylist to layer only the ends of your hair, adding a few mid-length pieces around your face. After shampooing and conditioning, blow dry straight, lifting the roots of your hair with a medium-sized radial brush to add volume. To style, part your hair and bangs to one side and apply a shining product to the top layer of your hair and your bangs.

Mature Styles

Mature women often shy away from growing their hair long, yet longer hair with bangs often suggests a youthful appearance and has the added benefit of hiding forehead and eye wrinkles. Ask your stylist to add some layers into your cut, keeping the length of your hair to where your hair looks full and healthy rather than thin and scrappy. Using moisturizing shampoos and conditioners helps older hair maintain body and keeps hair from appearing dry and brittle, which ages your looks.

Haircuts And Styles For Round Faces

There are many styling options for a round face.

Round faces are usually accompanied by a round chin. Round faces do not have the length that oval faces have, so the main goal for a great hairstyle is to create a picture of length. This is done with haircuts and styles that give the hair height while keeping the hair flat to the head so it does not appear to make the face rounder.

Just Below the Chin

To give the illusion of length, haircuts that fall just below the chin are perfect for those with round faces. Do not, however, cut the hair shorter than the chin unless you are going for a super short pixie cut that will fall behind your ears. Keeping the cut below the chin adds length to a round face.

Layered Cut

If you want layers with a round face, go for soft layers that taper away from the face and reduce a bulky or heavy look on your head. Layers can be added to short or long hair on a round face in order to enhance any style.

Add Some Bangs

Bangs would normally be considered off limits for those with round faces. However, longer bangs that are layered to the sides or curled will give the face a longer look. Stay away from straight bangs and any other style that completely frames your face.

Keep Your Hair Long

One way to help offset a round face is to emphasize the slenderness of your neck. This can be done with long hair that is layered or shagged. The hair can be styled to complement the shape of a round face using any of the tips described here.

Straight

Round faces and short curly hair do not go well together because of the width that curls produce. If your hair is curly, it is best to keep it long and layered if you have a round face. Straight hair will create a sleek look that suits a round face.

Short Hairstyles For Young Women

Just about anyone can make short hair work.

Gone are the days when long hair was a must-have. Short hair is in. It's flirty, vivacious and has found a place to stay in society. It does not matter what type of hair you have or what the shape of your face is; with short hair, any young woman can find a style that will flatter her look and have heads turning her way.

The Bob

The bob comes in so many different cuts and styles it is difficult to not be able to find a style that you will like. Usually the bob is cut right below the chin, but it can be longer or shorter depending on your preference. Sometimes it is longer in the front and short in the back. This is called an A-line bob. Another bob style involves layering. Either the layers can be cut just around the face or they can be placed throughout the hair, giving your hair a stacked look, but leaving you with the ability to still pull your hair up. The possibilities are truly endless for the bob.

The Pixie

It's important to feel comfortable with your face before trying this hairstyle. The purpose of the haircut is to focus on your facial features and not your hair. The pixie may at first appear to be a punk cut, but more young women continue to opt for this style. The cut is close to the face and,

if you choose bangs, they are quite short. The hairstyle itself is pretty simple to do on a daily basis, but the upkeep of the haircut is important to maintain the integrity of the style. This hairstyle is especially appealing on round or oval faces.

Short Shags

Shag hairstyles are convenient because, as the name suggests, they can be styled to look unkempt. This makes it easy to get up and go. Typically, a shag haircut is similar to a bob with layers that frame the face and a few layers in the back to give an even look throughout the hair.

Curly Short Hair

If you want to curl your hair, you have the option of using a curling iron or curlers, or of perming your hair. Curls add variety and can either be tight or loose, depending on your preference.

Dress Like Miss America

Halloween is a time of the year when people get to put on costumes and dress up as people or characters that are different from everyday life. Dressing as Miss America is a creative way to express your beauty in costume. In a few simple steps, you can look just as beautiful as Miss America.

Instructions

1. Wear a fancy dress, such as an old bridesmaid or prom dress. Choose a dress that is long and flowing. If you don’t have any dresses or gowns on hand, check local thrift stores or garage sales.

2. Wear a sash over the dress, or create one of your own. On a long piece of fabric, write the words, “Miss America” and the year. Wrap the sash around one shoulder and tie at the opposite hip.

3. Wear jewelry, such as a necklace made of pearls or cubic zirconium, since it may not be safe to trick or treat with an actual diamond necklace. Also wear a tennis bracelet. The bracelet can be made of pearls, cubic zirconium, gold or silver. Wear earrings to match the dress.

4. Wear a pair of natural-colored nylons and high heels that match the dress's color. If you'll walk a long distance trick or treating, consider wearing pumps. Do not wear open-toed shoes or sandals with nylons.

5. Wear a tiara. Find a nice tiara at your local thrift store or a fake one at your local big box store, such as Target or Walmart.

6. Wear makeup: foundation, concealer, powder and blush. Shape your eyebrows. If necessary, apply eyebrow powder. Apply eye shadow, eye liner and mascara. Finish off the look with some lip liner, lipstick and gloss.

7. Carry a bouquet of live or silk flowers, preferably red roses. Find them at local flower shops or grocery stores. Craft stores carry silk flowers.

Easy Famous Girl Hairstyles

There are many simple but stylish hairstyles that are easy to do whether you have long, medium or short hair. The basic supplies you will need include hairspray to hold your curls, a curling iron, a flat iron, clips, bobby pins and time. It won't be long until you have a cute but elegant hairstyle that goes with almost any occasion.

Buns and Ponytails

Buns and ponytails are suitable for everyday occasions, but can also be made to look elegant. There are many types of formal, informal, high and low buns that can be complemented by clips. For a simple high twist bun, grab all of your hair as if you are making a ponytail. Twist it tightly with your other hand. While still holding and twisting it, begin wrapping it around in a circle to form a bun. You can clip it down with a ponytail holder, hair sticks or some clips.

For a simple but elegant chignon (French for describing an elegant bun), put your hair into a ponytail at the nape of your neck. Braid your hair as tightly as you can so that it does not become loose once it is wrapped in a bun. Wrap your braid around your head, spreading your bun as wide out as possible. Clip the end down. Add some hidden bobby pins to reinforce it, especially if your hair is very long, because of the weight of the bun. This style is popular at weddings.

Jazz up your bun by forming it to the side of your head. For a simple, cute ponytail, put your hair into a high ponytail, then grab hair from the bottom of the ponytail and wrap it around the holder so that it looks like your hair is being held by hair. To finish it off, clip the end under your holder with a bobby pin or small clip.

Down Hairstyles

Depending on how long your hair is, there are many cute styles you can do. For a cute style for short hair, part a section in the front while folding it back. Clip the end down so it has a little height to it. Curl your hair spirally downwards with a curling iron. This hairstyle works well for both long and short hair.

For full-looking locks, begin by flat-ironing your hair. Curl the bottom half of your hair, leaving the top of your head flatter. Separate parts of your hair and curl outward. Once you are done going around your whole head, fluff your curls a little with your hands.

Hairstyles For Thin Or Long Faces

A flattering cut is one that boosts your natural beauty.

A flattering cut is one that compliments your facial shape. For those who have long, narrow faces, using curls, full-body styles and different bangs styles helps to add fullness to the face while making it appear shorter. By using styling tricks, you can drastically change your appearance and boost your self-confidence in little to no time.

Shorter Hairstyles

A shorter hairstyle that incorporates waves and jagged layers is often flattering for narrow or long faces. The layers add fullness around the face, making your face appear wider. When doing shorter styles with longer faces, it is best to always add bangs. The bangs help to hide some of the forehead, making your face appear shorter. If you're not ready to take the full plunge and cut blunt bangs into your style, try side-swept bangs. These look good on almost anyone and are easy to style and long enough to pin back.

Medium-Length Hairstyles

Shoulder length to 1 to 2 inches below shoulder length is a great look for narrow or long faces only when layers and fullness are added. The longer the hair the more narrow the face will look, so you need to break up the cut with layers. You never want to style this haircut to be sleek straight. This will not compliment your facial shape and will only make it appear longer and more narrow than it is. Instead, go for beachy waves by taking 1-inch sections and twisting them around a medium-size curling iron but not clamping down hair. Keep hair wrapped around the iron for about 45 seconds. Repeat this around the head. Then run your fingers through your hair a few times get the waves. Use hair spray to set your style and you're gorgeously good to go!

Longer Hairstyles

Long hairstyles are really not recommended for long, narrow faces. The longer the hair, the longer the face will look. This is because when your eyes look at the face, they incorporate the hair as part of it. So if you have hair down to the middle of your back and you're wearing it in the front, it makes your face seem even more longer than it is.

However, if you can't part with your long hair, you can add major layers to compensate for the length. This will not only help to take some weight off of the style to boost fullness but will also give the illusion that you have a shorter face because of the major-body style you'll be sporting. Adding bangs is a definite plus because it will create the illusion that you have a shorter face. Try doing some blunt bangs to see a major difference. Blunt bangs that hang almost parallel with the eyebrow are really in right now.

Tips and Tricks

Always using a collagen hairstyle product. These help to add fullness to your hair no matter what the style is. The collagen bonds to individual hair strands and really gives you a lift.

Never part your hair down the middle if you have a longer, narrow face! It will make your face appear longer. To give the illusion of a shorter face and give your style more fullness, always part your hair to one side. Whether you do a dramatic one side part or just a few strands over, you'll really notice a difference in your appearance with the side part.

Tighten Curls

Tighten Curls

If your hair is dull and in need of an update or maybe you have a perm that has lost its curl, you can tighten curls to give your hair a new and refreshed look. Even if you do not have a perm or natural curls, you can still create somewhat of a crimped appearance. Long hair will require more effort because of the extra weight, which has a tendency to lose curls. Follow the steps below to tighten curls for a revitalizing and fresh new style:

Instructions

1. Wash thoroughly and condition. Clean your hair as you usually do with a body building shampoo that is designed for your type of hair and be sure to use a good conditioner after washing it. Rinse the conditioner out completely or it may pull your curls down.

2. Towel dry. Hang your head upside down and scrunch your hair into the towel. Make sure to ring as much water out of your hair as possible before continuing your process to tighten your curls. Continue towel drying until your hair feels almost dry.

3. Apply styling product to your damp hair. Mousse, gel or styling spray can be used to tighten curls and there are styling aids that are made especially for enhancing curls. Use just the amount that is instructed, because too much product can hinder curls instead of tightening them. Comb the product through your hair to distribute it evenly and completely. If you have long hair, you may need to use more of the product than shorter hair will require.

4. Crunch with the towel again. After the styling product has been combed through, start scrunching your hair into the towel once more. Hold the towel in your hands while squeezing the hair between the fabric in a scrunching fashion. If you are using a styling spray, you should spray the hair frequently during your effort to tighten your curls. Keep scrunching until your curls are tightened and the desired look is achieved.

5. Diffuse, only if necessary. It would be best, if time allows, for your hair to air dry on its own. If you have to use the hair dryer, then you should definitely use a diffuser to tighten your curls. A diffuser is an addition to your hair dryer that lets you dry your hair without blowing all of the curls out.

Take Glamour Photos At Home

Capture your beauty in a glamour photo.

Glamour photos are meant to display the beauty of the individual. There are a number of ways glamour shots are taken: in a natural setting, in front of a backdrop or with props. Proper hairstyling, cosmetics application and lighting are integral to high-quality glamour shots, as they enhance the beauty of the photo's subject. While some people may look to professional hairstylists, make-up artists and photographers to take their glamour photos, a less expensive option is to take your own at home.

Instructions

1. Find two or three locations at your house to use as a background for the photos. The background should be simple such as a blank wall or a bench outside. Keep lighting in mind when selecting a location. If you do not have a blank wall or backyard, try hanging a plain sheet on a wall.

2. Use your choice of cosmetics to enhance your natural beauty. Lipstick, blush, eyeshadow and mascara are commonly used for glamour shots.

3. Style your hair. If you prefer straight hair, use a flat iron to create a smooth, shiny look. For a voluminous hairstyle, use a curling iron for curls.

4. Put on clothing that makes you feel more appealing, confident and comfortable. Clothing items for photos should be solid colors so that they do not distract from your face.

5. Add jewelry and accessories to fit your preference. Necklaces, earrings and a belt are simple accessories that can dress-up your photos.

6. Set the automatic timer setting on your camera and place it on a sturdy desk or table across from where you intend to pose. If your camera does not have an automatic timer setting, have a friend or family member operate the camera.

7. Take photos with a variety of different poses so that you have options to choose from. Also, try switching some of the accessories and background locations to create different looks.

Find The Perfect Hairstyle For Your Hair Type

Finding a perfect hairstyle requires understanding your hair's texture and type.

Whether you are currently sporting thick and curly locks or you have a full head of thin and straight hair, finding the perfect hairstyle for your hair type allows you to wear you hair proudly with confidence. Choosing a hairstyle based on your hair's texture and length ensures your hair's best appearance whether you're heading out for the day or going out for the night.

Instructions

1. Observe your own hair using a mirror. Determine whether you have thin, thick, fine, straight, wavy or curly hair. If you have split ends or bangs, make a note of it for when you begin looking for hairstyles that fit your natural hair currently.

2. Browse through beauty, fashion and hairstyle magazines to find inspiration and hairstyles or cuts you would like for your hair. Cut out specific styles and gather them together to find a final look and style you would like for yourself.

3. Wear straight bangs if you have thin or thick straight locks. Add curls to your hair yourself using a hot curling iron only at the ends of your hair, adding depth and volume to the semi-formal look. Create a part in the center of your hair, or opt for side bangs to add a bit of personality to your look.

4. Create a side bun if you have naturally wavy hair, or opt for a half-ponytail and allow the rest of your wavy strands to hang loose and relaxed. Add additional banana curls to your hair using a hot curling iron for an old Hollywood glam look.

5. Purchase hair-smoothing serum if you have naturally curly hair and apply it before heading out for the day for a natural messy curl look. Wear your hair in a high ponytail leaving only strands of curls down to add to the depth and volume of the look. Pull the top portion of your hair back and pin it using bobby pins or clips to create a top "poof" or bump.

Create Curly Updos For Long Hair For Prom

Spraying your hair with a thermal protectant will keep your hair from getting damaged.

Curly hair updos are relatively easy to achieve and can look very sophisticated. A curly updo is perfect for prom or any other formal event. Before you begin, make sure that your hair is clean and dry and has been thoroughly brushed to remove any tangles.

Instructions

1. Spray your hair lightly with a thermal protectant.

2. Curl your entire head using a barrel curling iron. You can use any size barrel, depending on the look you want to achieve.

3. Separate your hair into a front and a back section. Using your elastic, tie the back section into a ponytail. You can position the ponytail as high or as low on your head as you wish, depending on how high you want your updo to be.

4. Take the hair in the ponytail and, shaping the curls as you like, pin them around the elastic. When you have pinned all the curls, the elastic should not be visible.

5. Pin the remaining loose curls around the pinned ponytail curls. Start with the curls closest to the ponytail and make your way to the front of the head. Depending on the length of your bangs, you may want to pin them to the side or tease them and pin them back.

6. Lightly mist the finished updo with hairspray, smoothing back any flyaway hairs at the front.

Do Hair & Makeup For Children'S Beauty Pageants

The beauty world receives a large number of children as models raising the competition in children's pageants. Parents invest in hair dos and make up to give children an edge in pageants. Stylists need to understand young clients and invest in children-safe products. The young client needs are unique and demands extra care. As a stylist, be ready to accommodate these demands.

Instructions

1. Shampoo the child's hair thoroughly if it is not clean. If hair is tangled, detangle it using a conditioner. Untangled hair is easy to comb and the child will not feel pain during styling. Cleanse the face using children's facial products. (See Resource 1 for options) A child's face is naturally smooth, so there is no need to overuse cleansing products. Children cannot sit still for long; get them something to play with through the hair and makeup process.

2. Apply a moisturizer, then base the face with a light powder. Use a sunscreen for outdoor events. Use a spot foundation or a light concealer if the child has bruises on the face. Brush the child's hair to prepare it for styling. Styling children's hair does not often require heating tools; if necessary use these tools on medium or low heat.

3. Brush the eyebrows using a brow brush; use clear mascara for the lashes to keep them in place. Add bright colored clips and bands to the hair or stick to the pageant's theme.

4. Brighten up the face with a light blush for the cheeks; blush on children looks natural and highlights the cheeks beautifully.

5. Apply hair spray or a heat protection spray if it is an outdoor event. Apply lip balm to dry lips; add a little sheer color to get a desired look.

Sharpen Scissors By Cutting Through Sandpaper

Sharpen scissors by cutting through sandpaper.

A dull pair of scissors can be exceedingly frustrating, especially when you need them for cutting something intricate or important. Before replacing your dull scissors, you should consider trying to sharpen them to extend their useful life. With a simple sheet of fine-grit sandpaper, you can effectively restore the sharp edges of your scissors. The process is no more complicated than simply cutting through sandpaper.

Instructions

1. Find a small sheet of fine-grit sandpaper. It does not have to be new or particularly large to sharpen scissors. Fine-grit sandpaper generally has a score of between 100 and 180.

2. Open the scissors as wide as possible and position the blades on the edge of the sandpaper.

3. Cut through the sandpaper completely, using the entire blade area of the scissors from the base of the blades to the tips of the blades.

4. Repeat steps two and three several times to sharpen the scissors completely.

5. Wipe the blades with a soft cloth to remove any sandpaper dust from the scissor blades when you are finished sharpening the scissors.

6. Cut the sandpaper as often as necessary to keep your scissors adequately sharp for every cutting task.

Do A Ponytail Perm

Girls who like ponytails might love ponytail perms.

If you have medium to long hair that you love wearing in a ponytail or clipped off to the side so that it looks like you're wearing one, it's little wonder that you may consider a ponytail perm. After you designate the hair that you wish to perm, you will follow the same steps as you would if you were doing a full-head perm. Afterward, you'll be left to enjoy the carefree curls that should embody the low-maintenance softness and spunk that you're after.

Instructions

Conduct a Practice Run First

1. Brush your hair back into a ponytail and secure it with an elastic band for a practice session the day before you plan to do the actual ponytail perm. The practice session will allow you to make modifications before it's too late -- when the permanent waving solution is already on your hair.

2. Experiment with the placement of the tail by raising it high and then pulling it low. Depending on the length of your hair, the movement may affect the hair that falls out of the tail. Generally, the higher the tail, the less hair you will have to perm; the lower the tail, the more hair you will have to perm.

3. Spray your tail with hair spray and then wrap sections of it with different-size rollers. This key step will help you determine the size of the roller you wish to use: The larger the roller, the bigger and softer the curl; the smaller the roller, the tighter the curl.

4. Dry your tail with a blow dryer and let the curlers sit for 30 minutes.

5. If possible, ask someone to help section and wrap your hair.

Remove the rollers and inspect your hair. Run your fingers through the curls. Are they the right size -- or too big or too small? Did you use enough curlers to achieve the look you desire? Set aside the right number and size of curlers that you wish to use for your real perm.

Perm Your Ponytail

6. Brush your hair into a ponytail and smooth it thoroughly to ensure that there are no tangles, crimps or snarls.

7. Grab a wrapping paper from the at-home perm box and slide it past the ends of your hair. This placement will ensure that your hair will be curled at the ends and won't crimp or frizz.

8. Choose a rod, wrap the end of your hair and roll it slowly to your scalp. Fasten the rod shut. Be sure that the roll is even; if it's bumpy, it will curl that way too. Curl the rest of your ponytail in this manner.

9. Put an old towel around your shoulders and fasten it with a hair clip.

10. Open the waving solution by snipping the top of the plastic bottle with scissors. Look at the solution and then the curlers on your head to gauge how much solution you will need for your perm.

11. Large rollers will produce large curls.

Saturate each rod with the waving solution, applying it evenly across each rod several times. The waving solution softens your hair so that it will curl.

12. Open the plastic bag from the kit and put it over your head. Fasten it with a clip. Let the waving solution sit on your head for the time recommended by the kit.

13. Remove the clip and the plastic bag after the time is up. Rinse each rod thoroughly under warm water for between three and five minutes each. You can rinse your hair in the shower or arch your head under a sink, especially if you have a sprayer with which to direct the water.

14. Blot your head with a towel to absorb excess water.

15. Open the neutralizer by snipping the top of the plastic bottle with scissors. Apply the neutralizer evenly over each rod. The neutralizer "rehardens" your hair to set the curls. Let it sit for the length of time recommended on the box -- usually between five and ten minutes.

16. Rinse out the neutralizer with warm water by either rinsing your hair with the rods still in it, or removing the rods and paper very carefully, one at a time, without disturbing the curl, and then thoroughly rinsing your hair until the "slimy" texture of the neutralizer is completely gone. To be sure, put your fingers in your hair and then rub them together. Remove the rods from the bottom and work your way up.

17.Say goodbye to awkward curling-iron gyrations after you have a ponytail perm.

Let your hair air-dry and then enjoy the spunk of your new ponytail perm.

Half Up Half Down Bridal Hairstyles

Doing your do for the wedding

Finding the right bridal hairstyle is almost as important as choosing the perfect wedding dress. The bridal 'do that's best for you will be one that complements your dress, face, hair and is comfortable for you to wear. Half up and half down hairstyles are ideal as they are a natural compromise between full updos and leaving your hair down. Best of all, these hairstyles complement any texture of hair and face shape.

Curly Styles

Curly hair, whether natural or curled, can be done in a number of ways. Curls or waves tend to add a romantic, fairytale-like feeling to a bride's appearance. Leave small wisps and curls out to frame the face, while pulling half of the hair up into a loose bun or ponytail. The back part of the hair can fall in curly locks.

Another option is to create soft curls and pin them around the front of the head. Twist thin sections of the hair, then pin them in circular shapes to the head. This works for long or short hair.

Make small cornrows or tight French braids by parting the front of the hair into small sections, 1/8 to 1/4 inch wide, going back to about the crown of the head. Use pins or small rubber bands to hold the hair in place where the part ends at the crown. Allow the remaining hair from the rubber band to fall into curls in the back. Curl the hair that was left down in the back to match, or leave it straight. This also works with long or short hair.

Create elegant updos using only the front half of the hair as well, such as traditional French twists.

Straight Styles

Straight, sleek styles work well for half up and half down wedding hairstyles as well. Pull the front half of the hair into a tight ponytail or bun and leave the back super straight and shiny. This elegant look works extremely well in the evening or for ultra-formal events.

Leave bangs that either hang straight down across the forehead or create a part on one side and sweep the remaining hair behind the ears. Pin the bangs in place if you opt to sweep them away from the face.

Pulling the front half of the hair back into a ponytail works whether you pull it straight back tight, loose or part the hair creatively.

Accessories

Incorporate hair accessories into wedding half up half down hairstyles. Brides who want to wear a tiara or headband attached to a veil can pull their hair away from their faces by using a half-ponytail with the back of their hair left flowing down. You can wear bangs, although it's not necessary.

Insert rhinestone barrettes and clips throughout the hairstyle to dress it up.

Another option is placing flowers--real or silk--throughout the hair, both on the top and woven into the locks left down in the back.

Become Independent

Independence means different things to different people. Moving out, moving on, ending a relationship, changing a relationship, gaining autonomy at work or getting rid of your roommate. Whatever the reason for your freedom, put your fears aside and follow these steps to break the chains and become independent.

Instructions

1. Plan your day around you, not anyone else. People who are most dependent on others allow their worlds to revolve around the needs of other people or other things. Plan your day according to your own schedule--make a list of what you want to do, what you need to do and what you should have already done.

2. Secure your finances. True independent living relies on financial freedom. Pay your own bills, drive your own car, sign a personal check for your rent. If you don't have the money for these expenses, save aggressively. Not only will you gain financial freedom with your savings, but the money you keep to yourself will give you an incredible feeling of independence and motivation.

3. Avoid letting others do things for you that you can do for yourself. At the same time, don't do everyone else's work. This can be applied to any situation. If your mother still makes your lunch, start spreading the peanut butter and jelly yourself. If your coworker is picking up your slack at the office, work more efficiently. If you're in a relationship and you are the one doing all the chores or having them all done for you, start dividing tasks equally.

4. Leave your friends and family at home. This is a difficult step on the journey to independent living, but you must start doing things on your own. You do not need two girlfriends to escort you to the bathroom at a bar. You do not need to drive with someone to the restaurant, because you can meet them there. Go shopping alone, spend at least one or two evenings a week by yourself. Work on activities that force you to lead, not follow.

5. Think critically. The hardest step to becoming a truly independent person is to become a critical thinker. This does not mean you criticize everything. Critical thinking means you are taking the time to think about things analytically. Ask questions--why, when, who, what and how. Don't give up so easily. Don't agree with someone just to make them happy. Engage in lively debates with people. You will find that thinking for yourself is the best thing you can do to create an independent lifestyle.
