Up & Down Wedding Hairstyles

Look your best at your wedding with an elegant up or down hairstyle.

If you are a bride-to-be, you know that finding the perfect hairstyle to compliment your wedding gown is important. Get your ideal look on a budget by doing your own hair for your wedding. From eclectic to classic, create stunning up or down wedding hairstyles with ease by using simple techniques.

Classic

Construct an elaborate up-do effortlessly. Roll damp hair in rollers and let hair dry. To speed the process, blow-dry rolled hair. Remove the rollers once hair has dried, and lightly pick or brush out the curls. Pin hair on top of the head with bobby pins, in sections. Pin curls tightly, and smooth them with serum for a more orderly appearance, or pin curls loosely and allow them to dangle freely for a natural look. Leave small sections of hair unpinned to frame the face, and curl or straighten them depending on personal preference. Lightly spray with hairspray to ensure your curls stay in place.

Sleek

A low bun or twist complements sleek wedding gowns beautifully. Gather hair into a low side pony-tail, and secure it with a hair band. Section loose hair into pieces and secure them around the base of the pony-tail with bobby pins to hide the hair band. Another method is to comb the hair back, and gather the ends to twist them into a bun that lies flat against the head. Secure the bun with bobby pins. Finish off the look by smoothing your hair with serum, and attaching a silk ribbon or large flower.

Side-parted

Side-parts create a stylish, sophisticated look. For long or no bangs, use a comb to part your tresses from the far left or right side of your head, then gather hair from the sides and top section and secure in the back with a beret or clasp. Women with short bangs can side-part them and secure them with bobby pins. Alternatively, side-part your bangs and french-braid them, so that they frame your face with the rest of your hair hanging freely.

Backcombed

The "pouf" is a resurfaced vintage hairstyle achieved by backcombing. Using a comb, lift sections of hair at the crown of your head and comb the underside towards your scalp to create volume. Continue until the pouf reaches a desired volume, then smooth the surrounding hair over the pouf, and secure hair with bobby pins at the back. Let remaining hair hang freely, or pull up the sides and secure at the back. Waves or loose curls complement poufs. Use a flat iron or curling iron to produce ringlets, and brush them out lightly. Finish with styling mouse and a fast-dry hairspray.
