Hairdressers' Associations

Many hairdressers are self employed and work flexible hours.


Hairdressers' associations are nonprofit organizations directed by officers and governed by the bylaws established by the founders. Hairdressers' associations promote the industry through education, advertising, lobbying, publishing and political donations. Hairdressers offer a variety of services such as coloring, styling, shampooing, cutting and chemical treatment of hair. They counsel clients on maintain their hair at home. Hairdressers work in salons, various forms of media and even with the deceased. With such variety in hairdresser employment and work environments, associations help keep communication open within the industry.


National Cosmetology Association


The NCA has represented the interests of the professional salon industry since its founding in 1921. The NCA has a membership of more than 25,000 hairdressers, salon owners, nail technicians, estheticians, students and educators, making it the world's largest salon professional association. The NCA hosts events and trade shows to increase the knowledge and skills of salon professionals. They also fight for legislation to protect the integrity of the salon industry and the safety of clients.


International Hairdresser and Beautician Association


An international association, the IHBA provides professional certification for beauticians and hairdressers. The IHBA strives to obey the regulations and laws in all countries, carry out management and certification, promote service skills and knowledge, provide training to promote quality practitioners and serve as a protector and trustee for hairdresser and beautician legal rights.


Organization Mondiale Coiffure


The OMC promotes hairdressing at its highest level. OMC creates a link between federations, countries and professionals. Along with hosting international hair competitions, the OMC has created a global certification diploma and official membership program. This organization provides education to professionals who request it.
