Pageant Hairstyles For Little Girls

To win a beauty pageant, a little girl needs to look the part from head to toe. Choose hairstyles that are pretty and feminine but still age-appropriate, to give a girl a leg up in any beauty competition.

Features

You want your little girl to have a hairstyle that's pretty and eye-catching but still attractive and age-appropriate. Many little girls will wear curls, whether natural or styled with rollers or curling irons.

Types

A little girl might wear an updo hairstyle, a partial updo or a style that hangs loose. You'll usually see longer hairstyles on pageant contestants.

Time Frame

A girl might need to sleep with rollers in her hair to get a long-lasting curl for the next day. Parents can curl hair with curling irons. Give yourself plenty of time for hairstyling. It can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hour to style hair.

Considerations

Think before adding hair extensions for volume and length. Even clip-on extensions can be heavy and might be uncomfortable for young girls to wear.

Effects

Overall, a pageant hairstyle shouldn't make a girl look too mature for her age. It should be a pretty style, whether straight, wavy or curly, that's fancier than her everyday hairstyle.

Use Magnetic Hair Rollers

Magnetic hair rollers aren't actually magnetic---these plastic curlers are called magnetic because hair "sticks" to them. Magnetic hair rollers are great for creating smooth, defined curls, although you will have to take the time to dry your hair to create these curls. You may also have to attach the hair rollers using a clip, unlike Velcro or foam hair rollers, but the effect is worth it.

Instructions

1. Wash or rinse your hair so it is completely wet.

2. Apply curling lotion or gel.

3. Comb out your hair and partition it into sections using clips or barrettes.

4. Take one section of hair and lay the ends on a magnetic curler.

5. Roll the magnetic curler along the section of hair towards your head until it sits on top of your scalp.

6. Take a double-pronged clip and clip the magnetic curler to the hair closest to your scalp (so the clip sits at the bottom of the curler). If you have snap-on magnetic hair rollers, snap the clips onto the curlers.

7. If you'd like extra security, put on a tight hairnet to keep the magnetic curlers in place.

8. Air-dry or blow-dry your hair.

9. Remove clips and curlers.

Twist & Bobby Pin Bangs Back

Bobby pins are an easy-to-use styling tool.

Styling your hair the same way every day is boring. It's easy to get into a hair rut by using just a few different styles. If you have bangs, styling them differently can update your whole look. If you are growing those bangs out, they can be difficult to style due to their longer length. Use bobby pins to twist and bobby pin your bangs back out of your eyes with the rest of your hair.

Instructions

1. Part your hair in the middle or just slightly to the left or right. A far-right or far-left part doesn't work as well when pinning bangs back using bobby pins. Part the bangs in the same way as the rest of your hair so they are divided into two sections.

2. Grab the bangs on the right side along with a little of the hair on that right side of your face. Pull the bangs and hair back off of the face and loosely twist them together. Pin the twisted section in place on the side of your head or in the back using two bobby pins.

3. Repeat with the left section of bangs and a small section of hair on that side.

4. Spritz with hair spray to hold your twists in place.

Sharpen Hair Scissors

Sharpen your hair scissors.

Whether you use a scissors to cut and style hair professionally or use one to cut your children's hair, it is important to keep the blades sharp to be effective. The most expensive hair scissors in the world are useless if the blades have become too dull to cut correctly. There are a few different ways that hair scissors can be sharpened. If the scissors you are using don't "make the cut," it's probably time to sharpen them.

Instructions

1. Use a scissors-sharpening machine. Electric shears sharpeners are easy to operate and not very expensive. Turn the machine on. Insert the base of the blade of the scissors into the slot as close to the pivot point as possible. Apply light pressure with your hand. Slide the scissors from the base of the blade to the tip slowly. Repeat this process about three times on each blade. Slide each blade through the slot once quickly to finish. Clean the blades with a paper towel.

2. Manually sharpen the scissors. Fold a few sheets of aluminum foil into multiple layers. Cut through the foil a few times to sharpen the blades of the shears.

3. Use a shears sharpening service. Check your local yellow pages to find one in your area and have your scissors sharpened by a professional. There are many online sharpening services that will accept mail orders as well.

Bathing While Pregnant

Bathing While Pregnant

There are certain challenges, as well as plenty of misconceptions, associated with bathing while pregnant. While there are measures that should be taken to protect the safety of yourself as well as your baby, these are simple to achieve. Bathing can be a relaxing and peaceful haven for an aching pregnant body. Pamper yourself while taking a few easy, common sense steps to make bathing while pregnant a wonderful and enjoyable experience.

Instructions

1. Keep the water temperature under 100 degrees. ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) recommends keeping your core body temperature below 102 degrees. If it is raised beyond that level, your heart rate will rise, which can compromise blood flow to the baby. If the water is comfortable to step into right away, it is close to your body temperature and thus safe enough to enter while pregnant.

2. Prevent falling accidents by using a rubber bath mat inside the tub. If your bathroom floor is tiled rather than carpeted, place a soft, secure mat outside the tub so that when you step out you will not slip. Avoid stepping on the edge of the tub to get out as this also poses a falling risk. Later in pregnancy when your balance is getting more unstable it’s best to only bathe when there is another person at home, just in case you do fall or need assistance getting out of the bathtub.

3. Bathe during pregnancy as frequently as you want up until your water breaks. When the amniotic sac and mucous plug are still in place, the baby is well-protected from outside contaminants. After the amniotic sac is broken it is possible that germs may enter the vagina and pose an infection risk.

4. Use bubbles, salts, fizzies or oils in your bath during pregnancy. These items are perfectly safe for you and your baby and can help you relax and enjoy your time in the tub even more.

Do Formal Makeup

Wear formal makeup to a cotillion or quinceanera.

Special events like weddings or your graduation are times when you want to look your best, and you can get a nice look with formal makeup. Formal makeup should highlight one favorite feature like your lips or eyes. Soft and youthful-looking, this type of makeup flatters the face without making you look "over-made" or too edgy. Formal makeup is less about personal style and focuses on showing the real you. Perfect for photographs, formal makeup is the perfect pairing with an elegant updo.

Instructions

1. Cleanse your face and neck skin. Then pat the skin dry with a soft towel. Apply an oil-free moisturizer to your face and neck. Do not put moisturizer on eyelids. Allow the moisturizer to dry for one minute before moving on.

2. Dab concealer on blemishes and on any dark circles you may have around your eyes. The concealer should be one shade lighter than your natural skin tone. Pat the concealer into the skin with the clean pads of your forefinger and middle finger.

3. Shake your mineral powder foundation while keeping the lid on it. Remove the lid of the foundation. Sweep the kabuki brush across the surface of your foundation. Tap the brush handle on your wrist to remove any excess powder.

4. Swirl the mineral powder foundation on your face starting at the forehead. Work the powder over the face, moving the brush in small circles. Move down to your cheeks, nose and chin. Sweep the foundation on your neck too.

5. Accent your cheekbones with bronzing powder. Rub a powder brush across the bronzer. Stroke the underside of the cheekbone to give your cheekbones depth. If you have good cheekbone depth already, then sweep a light pink blush across the top of the cheekbone.

6. Brush your eyebrows upwards and outwards using an eyebrow brush. Curl your eyelashes up with an eyelash curler.

7. Sweep a highlighter eye shadow on the bottom lid and under the brow bone. Use a eye shadow brush for the best coverage. If your eyes are the feature you have chosen to highlight, then add an accent eye shadow to the crease of your eye. The accent color should be two shades darker than your highlighter. Do not go too dark on your accent color. Keep the look formal and light.

8. Line the top of your lashes with dark brown eyeliner. Avoid wearing heavy black eyeliner unless you have dark brown or black eyes. Line the eyes, starting from the outside of the eye and moving inward. Line the bottom of your eyelashes, but only half way. Stop the eyeliner directly under the pupil of your eye. This will keep eyes looking open and expressive.

9. Apply two coats of mascara to both the top and bottom lashes. Allow the first coat to dry before applying the second.

10. Line your lips with a neutral lip liner. Use a shell, soft pink or taupe lipstick on your lips. If you have selected your lips as the feature to highlight, then add a thin layer of clear lip gloss to them.

Arabic Wedding Customs

Dancing is a common form of celebration at an Arabic wedding.

It is customary, but not mandatory, for weddings in Arabic countries to span the course of several days. Parties are thrown celebrating different aspects of the marriage. Each party also has its own customs. Some modern couples shorten the length of the ceremony and it is a personal choice as to how many parties are held. Other Arabic customs include the "zaffeh" in Lebanon and sweet gifts for wedding guests in Iran.

Engagement Party

After a bride has accepted an offer of marriage, it is customary for the families of the bride and groom to throw an engagement party for friends and family. This time for the couple features festivities that include music, dancing and extensive amounts of food native to their country or countries. The bride-to-be also may have several wardrobe changes throughout the party, which will go on late into the night.

The Lebanese Zaffeh

There are many cultures within Lebanon, but one tradition is common among all. The custom of escorting the bride to the groom is called "zaffeh." This longstanding tradition arose in a local "village" wedding, where everyone would assist in escorting the bride. The groom and townspeople would celebrate for many hours, and sometimes days, and make their way to the bride's home. The groom finally enters the home and escorts out the bride. The couple is met with a celebrating crowd who cheers them and wishes them luck in their marriage.

Iranian Treats

In Iran, it is significant for a special gift to be given to the guests of the wedding. The custom has been practiced in Iran for centuries, even preceding the Islamic religion. Each guest usually leaves with a sweet treat wrapped in silk or lace. Examples of treats that can be given include noghl and nabat. This custom evolved from the practice of brides visiting homes in their village to announce their engagement. During these visits, they would take sweet treats and celebrate with neighbors and friends.

Almonds

One custom that many Arabic-speaking nations continue to practice is giving almonds at the wedding reception. The wedding party makes sure that each guest receives five almonds. The almonds represent the five sacred wishes for marriage, which include happiness, wealth and longevity. The almonds sometimes will have a candy coating. The inside of the almond represents difficult times that the couple will face during marriage, while the sweet outside represents the loving parts of a marriage. Five almonds also are given because it is an odd number and odd numbers cannot be divided, a symbol of the couple staying together.

4. Start at the nape of the neck and separate a 1-inch section from the bottom. Then, clip the remaining hair up.

5. Comb the hair from the scalp all the way down and cut a perfect straight line.

4. Starting at your forehead, add hot rollers to your hair in two-inch sections. To create volume, roll the medium-sized rollers away from your face.

5. Mist your hair with a light-hold spray. Undo the rollers after 5 to 7 minutes. To create the large curls, brush the curls out with your fingers very lightly.

Trim Short Hair

A quick trim can save you a trip to the beauty salon. This will save you money and allow you to stretch out your visits. When cutting your hair, or someone else's, it is important to be accurate as you cut or you may end up going to a stylist anyway.

Instructions

1. Wet the hair and comb it out carefully. Start sectioning off the hair. Begin cutting in the front and move toward the back when you trim short hair.

2. Measure the distance from the scalp that you want your hair to be. If you use your comb to measure the length you can easily gauge the length as you cut.

3. Take your first section of hair and trim it to the desired length. You want the length of the hair to be the same throughout the cut.

4. Continue trimming hair in that section, checking the length against the first piece you cut.

5. Move to the next section and begin trimming the hair similarly. Then move to the next section. It is important to compare your length to the original measurement on the comb.

6. Compare the length of hair according to the eyebrows, ears, and chin. This will help the cut to look even. The style should match the face.

7. Look over the hair and trim loose hairs that you have missed. Style the hair.

Formal Kids' Hairstyles

Braids are practical and easy to do at home for a formal occassion.

A formal hairstyle may be needed for your child when they are attending a special occasion, such as a wedding, first communion, or other celebration. However, young children find it difficult to sit still for long periods of time, which may prove difficult when trying to style their hair in an intricate way. The best formal hairstyles for children are those that look neat and tidy and can be achieved quickly. For little girls, sparkly hair accessories such as hair jewels, tiaras, and hairbands can make everyday hairstyles look more special.

Half up

A half-up style is the perfect compromise if you are considering leaving your child's hair down. A half-up style keeps hair away from the face and getting in the way. To try the look yourself, take a 1-inch section of hair from each side of the face and secure at the back of the head by using bobby pins or elastics. For a more dressed-up look, curls can be added to the hair. When styling a child's hair, it is best to avoid curling irons so that you do not burn your child if they squirm. Instead, use foam rollers; you can wrap the hair around them and remove them after a couple of hours for beautiful ringlets.

Braided

A braided hairstyle is a classic formal hairstyle for girls of all ages and is suitable for many occasions. Braids can be done as pigtails or as one braid down the back of the head and secured with a ribbon that matches your little girl's clothing. The beauty of a braided hairstyle is that it is practical, as the style will hold for a long period of time, but also looks pretty. Braided hair is easier to do on hair that has not been washed for a day or so; if hair is too clean, it will be too soft to stay in place. To braid your child's hair, use simple braiding technique by splitting three sections of hair and plaiting.

Boys

Young boys do not have as many options for changing their hair for formal occasions. If your child usually wears his hair in a spiky surfer style, you can blow dry the hair for a smoother, more polished effect. Boys with textured cuts can also manipulate the hair into different positions by using a wax stick, which can produce a different style for a special occasion.

Fix A Bad Perm

A bad perm can temporarily ruin your appearance and self esteem. Depending on the damage to your hair, you may be able to fix the perm by using a deep conditioner for several days or by cutting the hair to remove the damaged parts. By fixing the bad perm as soon as possible, you may be able to salvage most of your hair and create a style that makes you comfortable.

Instructions

1. Determine the cause of the problem. A bad perm is usually the result of perming dry or unhealthy hair, leaving treatment chemicals on too long, or rolling the curling rods incorrectly.

2. Use a deep conditioning product from the hair salon or the drugstore to fix a perm that's frizzy or dull. Apply the conditioner to wet hair and allow it to penetrate the hair shaft. Leave the conditioner in your hair for at least 5 minutes before rinsing. Reapply as needed to tame out of control hair.

3. Ask your stylist to cut off all damaged ends to fix hair that's been overtreated. You may need to have your hair cut shorter than normal so healthy hair can grow back. Sometimes a trim may be all that's needed to removed damaged ends. Avoid using hair styling products such as curling irons and blow dryers until healthy hair has grown in.

4. Remove fish tail curls by trimming them with scissors. You can do this yourself or you can ask your stylist. Fish tail curls can occur when curling rods have been rolled incorrectly or if hair does not respond well to chemical treatments. You can also use a curling iron to smooth out fishtails so they look more natural.

5. Use a conditioning shampoo and conditioner that's recommended for chemically treated hair to help maintain shine and reduce frizziness. Maintain the perm by allowing your hair to air dry. Use your fingers to style. Use light styling products such as gel or mousse to hold a specific style during the day.

Up & Down Wedding Hairstyles

Look your best at your wedding with an elegant up or down hairstyle.

If you are a bride-to-be, you know that finding the perfect hairstyle to compliment your wedding gown is important. Get your ideal look on a budget by doing your own hair for your wedding. From eclectic to classic, create stunning up or down wedding hairstyles with ease by using simple techniques.

Classic

Construct an elaborate up-do effortlessly. Roll damp hair in rollers and let hair dry. To speed the process, blow-dry rolled hair. Remove the rollers once hair has dried, and lightly pick or brush out the curls. Pin hair on top of the head with bobby pins, in sections. Pin curls tightly, and smooth them with serum for a more orderly appearance, or pin curls loosely and allow them to dangle freely for a natural look. Leave small sections of hair unpinned to frame the face, and curl or straighten them depending on personal preference. Lightly spray with hairspray to ensure your curls stay in place.

Sleek

A low bun or twist complements sleek wedding gowns beautifully. Gather hair into a low side pony-tail, and secure it with a hair band. Section loose hair into pieces and secure them around the base of the pony-tail with bobby pins to hide the hair band. Another method is to comb the hair back, and gather the ends to twist them into a bun that lies flat against the head. Secure the bun with bobby pins. Finish off the look by smoothing your hair with serum, and attaching a silk ribbon or large flower.

Side-parted

Side-parts create a stylish, sophisticated look. For long or no bangs, use a comb to part your tresses from the far left or right side of your head, then gather hair from the sides and top section and secure in the back with a beret or clasp. Women with short bangs can side-part them and secure them with bobby pins. Alternatively, side-part your bangs and french-braid them, so that they frame your face with the rest of your hair hanging freely.

Backcombed

The "pouf" is a resurfaced vintage hairstyle achieved by backcombing. Using a comb, lift sections of hair at the crown of your head and comb the underside towards your scalp to create volume. Continue until the pouf reaches a desired volume, then smooth the surrounding hair over the pouf, and secure hair with bobby pins at the back. Let remaining hair hang freely, or pull up the sides and secure at the back. Waves or loose curls complement poufs. Use a flat iron or curling iron to produce ringlets, and brush them out lightly. Finish with styling mouse and a fast-dry hairspray.

What Are The Causes Of Itchy & Sore Scalp

An itchy and sore scalp is a common symptom associated with a variety of scalp diseases. It is usually accompanied by redness, pus-filed bumps and flaky, dry patches of skin. If left untreated, the scalp can become infected and require prescription medication.

Products

The products you currently use to shampoo and condition your hair may be stripping the oils from your hair, leaving your scalp dry. The ingredients in the hair products also may irritate your skin, causing your scalp to become sore and itchy.

Seborrheic Dermatitis

Seborrheic dermatitis is a skin disorder that may be caused by changes in weather, stress, fatigue, or autoimmune disorders such as HIV/AIDS.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that causes the cells to produce skin faster than your body can shed the old skin cells. This can cause itchy, sore skin patches.

Fungal Infection

A fungal infection can cause itchy, sore skin and is caused by bacteria entering the hair follicles.

Treatment

Your dermatologist will prescribe either oral or topical antibiotics to reduce symptoms, or you can purchase antifungal shampoos from drugstores without a prescription. Switching your hair products to mild or hypoallergenic brands can also reduce soreness and itchiness.

Wedding Hijab Styles

For a wedding, hijabs can be ornate or simple.

A hijab is both a head covering and a style of dress worn primarily in the Muslim community. For weddings, which are increasingly gender-mixed in the Muslim community, hijab can celebrate both the culture of the spouses and the event itself. One important feature of a hijab wedding style is that it is modest and covers the hair, neck, ears and chest.

Simple

A good, heavy silk can be used to create a long dress with sleeves that extend to the wrist. The skirt of the dress can flair away from the body in simple folds so that the bride and her attendants are not showing too much of their figures. Tiny buttons up the back of a dress are a nice, simple touch. Consider getting old-fashioned cloth buttons. To finish the hijab style, choose a lightweight silk and lace combination to wrap your hair in. You can wind it around your head and face to create an elegant head covering.

Decorative

Start with a simple dress. The skirt should be floor length and the neckline must be modest enough to touch the neck. Add simple touches to the outfit, like a jeweled broach at the neckline or waist. Consider wrapping a sash around your waist. Once your hair and head are wrapped, add a few clips or barrettes that match the sash and broach to your head scarf.

Ornate

Create a long, modest dress using lace or jewels in the fabric. Pearls on the hem of a skirt can catch the light and make for a beautiful hijab wedding gown or outfit. The entire outfit can be covered with lace and beading if a lady wants to be creative with her ensemble. Instead of using a simple piece of cloth as a headwrap, she should collect her hair in a bun with many pieces of overlapping lace. They should be dense enough that no hair or skin shows through them. Pulling the lace over her ears and back to cover her hair, she can secure the lace with a jeweled clip. Once that is done, a bride can add a veil of any color to distinguish her from attendants and guests. Attaching it under the hijab on her head will allow it to trail down the back of her dress and float behind her as she walks toward her groom.

Use Andis Master Clippers

Professional and novice barbers should have well-maintained hair clippers.

For the professional hair dresser and the novice alike, a well-maintained hair clipper is essential for the perfect hairstyle. There are many types of clippers on the market, but if you own the Andis brand master clipper, you'll need to know care for it properly before and during its use in order to get the smoothest cut possible. There are several product lines for the master clippers, including the Master, FadeMaster (for shorter cuts, tapering and fading) and the Phat Master Clipper (for longer cuts.)

Instructions

Preparation

1. Plug the unit into a standard electrical outlet.

2. Make sure the outside of the clipper is clean. Use a soft cloth to wipe it off if necessary.

3. Remove the blade guard, wipe the blades clean and then turn the clipper to the "On" position. To turn it the clipper off, return the switch to its original position.

Attach Blades

4. Oil the blades by placing the oil in small droplets on the sides of the blades and on top. For specific instructions, refer to the diagram in the package's instruction sheet.

5. Locate the power screw, which is on the bottom part of the case opposite the switch, and then turn the power on.

6. Take a standard, slotted-head screwdriver and turn the power screw counter-clockwise until the clipper makes a continuous rattling sound. Then, carefully turn the screw clockwise, until the rattling sound stops.

7. Adjust the blade by standing the clipper upright, and then flicking the adjustment lever with your thumb. Choose the comb attachment size you want to use: 1/16-inch, 1/8 -inch, 1/4-inch, 3/8-inch, ½-inch, 3/4-inch and 1-inch. Snap the comb into place.

8. Insert the cutter blades into the blade attachment. Snap the blade attachment into place.

Clipping Guide and mid-haircut maintenance

9. Determine the settings to use before beginning the haircut.

Determine the direction that you want to clip the hair, whether it is with the hair grain or against the hair grain. Determine how much hair you want to trim off. Cut the hair.

10. Keep the clipper well-oiled and clean during the haircut. Place a few drops of the cutter oil on the front and sides of the cutter blades. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the blades of excess oil.

11. Use a small brush or a discarded tooth brush to clean the hair from the blades. When the clipper is running, dip only the blades in a pan of trimmer oil. Excess hair and dirt on the blades should come out.

12. After cleaning, turn the clipper off and dry the blades with a soft cloth. You can then resume clipping.

Blade Replacement

13. To replace the cutting blades, unplug the clipper and place it on a hard, flat surface so the teeth are facing downward.

14. Unscrew the blade screws and remove the lower blade.

15. Grasp the upper blade with your thumb and forefinger and then push it with your thumb to one side of the clipper while your finger unsnaps the blade from the connecting fork.

16. Handle the blades carefully.

Install the new blades by first placing the smaller (upper) blade toward the connector fork. Tilt the blade so that one side of the white nylon bracket hooks onto one tine of the connector fork. The piece should settle into place.

17.Push the upper blade to the connector fork's opposite side bracket and then place the larger, lower blade on top of the upper blade. Align the screw holes to the blade pad and then turn the clipper over to align the lower blade so that both blades are even. The lower blade's teeth should be slightly above the upper blade's teeth; this is important so that skin doesn't get caught in the teeth while you're clipping hair. Afro Kinky Hairstyles

Afro kinky hairstyles comes in a variety of shapes and fashions.

Afro kinky hairstyles are distinctively African-American, bold-patterned hairstyles for those who like to make a grand appearance on any scene. In addition to making an overall fashion statement, African-American kinky hair styles represent a symbol of strength, beauty and pride in African-American hair and culture. A variety of Afro kinky hairstyles exist for self-expression as well as artistic expression.

Braids

Braids, including microbraids, are a quite popular style of Afro kinky hair. Depending on the type of variation a person wants, the style is one of the easiest to create. By taking three strands of hair and weaving them into rope-like design, you can produce braids. Braids can also be created to hang loosely away from the scalp or to remain horizontal to the scalp. They can be designed into four large sections or several tiny sections. However, braids should not be braided too tightly against the scalp so that they cause pain or injury to the head.

Cornrows

Cornrows are similar to braids and create an appearance of rows in a cornfield. Although not as popular as in the 70s and 80s, the hair style is still ideal today due to the many variations to which the style can be adapted. Cornrow braids are created parallel toward one another, with some sort of attachment such as beads at the end. Cornrow braids can include a variety of patterns, including curving lines, zigzags, spirals and whorls.

Dreadlocks

Dreadlocks are developed by twisting, coiling and knitting the hair into sections called locks. However, make sure the hair is free of any residue in order to speed up the long growth and development process. Otherwise the knots can come loose when backcombed. This Afro kinky hairstyle takes patience to form into mature locks, usually two to three years. Maintenance is critical, involving several techniques, such as yarn wrapping and palm rolling.

Curls

Curls are another kinky Afro American kinky hair style. Curls can be either tight or medium. The expert use of the fingers is important. Run fingers through the hair to create the desired styles as well as volume. However, when cutting curly hair, the appropriate technique must be used in order to avoid producing frizz.

Extensions

When an individual wants to lengthen her hair, she may consider choosing extensions. The method of attachment includes a variety of techniques, such as weaving additional hair into natural hair or attaching wefts to the hair with adhesive or metallic rings with clamps. Sewing the additional hair into positions is another method of attaching extensions.

Other Kinky Hairstyles

Other African-American kinky hairstyles, which are variations of the most popular styles, include twists, relaxed and natural forms. Nevertheless, all styles are designed to symbolize the uniqueness of the African-American culture as well as to establish an identity. Many styles must be carefully created, which sometimes take several hours.

Trim Bangs At Home

Only use hair shears, instead of regular scissors, when cutting your own hair.

When your bangs need a little trim, you don't have to run to an expensive stylist to have them cut. Instead, try cutting your bangs at home. When cutting your own bangs, it is important to take your time and use quality hair shears. Rushing the process or using ordinary household scissors to trim your bangs is likely to leave them looking choppy and unprofessionally groomed.

Instructions

1. Wash and dry your hair before cutting. Do not cut your bangs while they are wet. If you do, your hair will appear much shorter after it dries.

2. Stand in front of a free standing mirror, such as a bathroom mirror, and comb your bangs straight. Clip the sides of your hair back, or on top of your head.

3. Run the comb through the bangs while pulling up at a slight angle. This will pull the bangs away from your forehead. Stop the comb approximately 1/2 inch from the end of the hair. Hold the hair between the length of your thumb and index finger.

4. Hold the hair shears at a 45 degree angle, tip pointing up, and make 1/4 inch long snips along the end of the bangs. Work your way from one end of the bangs to the other. Style as desired. If the bangs are still too long, repeat the process.

Hawaiian Luau Crafts

Simple crafts enhance any Hawaiian luau party.

Escape to a Hawaiian paradise with creative craft projects. Suitable for an adult fashion statement and modifiable for a child's birthday party, Hawaiian luau crafts are easy to complete and can result in lasting creations that'll be used over and over again. While real flowers may wilt over time, artificial leis can be used at Hawaiian parties for years to come. Jewelry and artificial flowers can last a lifetime with proper care.

Leis

Make professional-looking leis by using a large sewing needle to thread flowers onto dental floss. While real Hawaiian flowers are preferable, any real or imitation flower can be used. Thread the flowers by carefully pushing the needle through the center of each flower. Leis made from real flowers should be stored in a plastic bag in the refrigerator until they will be used, to preserve freshness and quality.

Children and budget-conscious crafters can create leis from plastic flowers and beads. Alternately thread beads and flowers onto a string for a simple lei project.

Silk Flowers

Create an elegant silk flower to use as a brooch, hair accessory or table decoration. Realistic flowers require lightweight materials to be used, as the edges of lightweight materials will singe better than heavier fabrics. To reduce the cost of the project, cut the material from shirts, blankets, or other existing items that are no longer usable, or are slightly damaged.

Simply cut the fabric into three five-petal flower shapes, five separate medium-size petals, and three separate small petals. Curl the edges of the fabric by singeing it over a candle flame. This makes the flower look more realistic when complete. Stack the full flower pieces and then the petals to create an elegant flower shape. Secure the pieces together with glue or by sewing, and glue a bead to the center.

Create multiple flowers in different colors and set the projects over a table for decoration, or glue a pin or barrette to the end to create a brooch or hair accessory.

Jewelry

Elegant hand and foot jewelry is a simple craft suitable for children and adults. It is best to use 30 inches of elastic to start. Although there will likely be elastic left over, there will not be any risk of running out of the material before the craft is complete.

Start by bending the elastic in half and wrap the loop around the wearer's middle finger or second-largest toe. String enough beads to wrap around the finger or toe and push the beads into the middle bend of the elastic. Push both ends of the elastic through a single bead to finish the ring. Create loops by repeating the process, stringing about 1 inch of beads onto each protruding elastic segment and then pushing both segments through a solitary bead to complete the loop. Repeat this process until the elastic reaches the wrist or ankle, and create a bracelet or anklet to finish the assembly. String beads on both segments until it reaches the back of the wrist or ankle, and finish the project by tying with a secure double knot. Trim off the excess elastic.

A Cold Wave To Permed Hair

Curlers

Historically, Egyptian women used wooden curlers and mud to set their perms, but today there are a plethora of modern tools to add a cold wave to your perm. When your permed hair grows out and the waves start to become looser, you can touch up your hair by applying a cold wave to your perm and curling the newly grown-out hair. The only difference between a cold wave and a modern perm is that a cold wave doesn't use heat to set the curls, which makes it easier to apply this treatment at home.

Instructions

1. Wash your hair after ample application of a shampoo. This is to ensure you start the process on clean hair and get the best results.

2. Using your permed hair as a guide, pin your hair to your curlers or heated rod. Make sure your hair is well-secured around the curlers and that all of your hair is curled in the same direction as the previous perm.

3. Apply thioglycolic acid lotion -- which is the perm lotion -- to your hair to make it softer and swell to take the shape of the curlers. The lotion will break the protein chains and cross-links of the hair, making it vulnerable to changes.

4. Wait for 10 minutes. Rinse the hair ensuring that the perm lotion is thoroughly washed away, leaving the hair soft and easy to shape.

5. Apply the acid neutralizer lotion. Application of this lotion forms the cross-links of the proteins again, which leads to the hair taking on the hard curly shape of the rods or curlers. This lotion will add the cold wave to your newly grown-out hair.

6. Remove the curlers after six minutes and wash your hair in cool water.

Hair Products Of The 1970s

The afro was a popular hair style in the 70s.

The 70s were a time of feathered bangs, up-dos, afros and generally big hair. The hairstyles of the 70s were designed to go along with popular cultural aspects of the time, such as disco, bell bottoms, rock and roll and the movies and television shows of the time. To achieve these hair styles, several types of hair products were used, some of which continue to be popular.

Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific

Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific is a brand of shampoo introduced in the 70s aimed at making your hair shiny, full, soft, and of course, smelling terrific. This brand of shampoo is still sold today, and can be found from online retailers such as Vermontcountrystore.

Afro Pick

The afro pick is a specially designed comb for manipulating the thick curls of an afro. Originally, the afro was popular with black nationalist groups, but became mainstreamed and popularized in the 1970s. Today, people still use afro picks as the main way of combing their hair.

LemonUp Shampoo

According to the website Datazap, LemonUp is a brand that made both shampoos and conditioners that contained an entire lemon in the bottle. Besides providing a lemony scent, this shampoo was aimed at maximizing the body and texture of your hair.

Supermax Hair-Dryer

According to Stuckinthe70s.com, the Supermax hair-dryer was a combination hair dryer, curler and straightener aimed at creating various types of hair styles quickly. This is achieved by the components of the product that include a wide-toothed drying comb, fine-tooth curver, drying concentrator, a brush and a storing handle.

Hairstyle To Grow Out Short Hair

Short hairstyles can be charming, chic and extremely trendy. However, when you want to grow out your hair, having shortly sheared locks can be downright frustrating. When you hit the "in-between" stage, your hair can become shaggy and unruly. Fortunately, you can avoid the shaggy look by using proper products and accessories and making minor changes to the way you wear your hair.

Texture

Adding new texture to your tresses can provide an optical illusion while you are growing out short hair. Use hot rollers to give you hair lift and volume, or curl your hair around your face to keep it from falling in your eyes and to provide a flirty look. Curls or waves are especially helpful when you are growing out short layers, because they hide the different lengths and make the layers look united instead of choppy and uneven. Curls will also make the hair appear shorter, so you can curl some pieces more tightly in areas that you need less length.

Pull It Back

Pull your hair back into a small ponytail as it is growing, and you will immediately achieve an adorable style that will draw attention away from your growing layers. You may have to use bobby pins and hairspray to get it to stay, but it is also your first chance to play and experiment with your longer hair. If you are growing your bangs out, pull the hair back at the center of your forehead and tease it at the roots. Use bobby pins to secure it into a small bouffant or bump, and you will instantly have a dramatic, trendy look.

Accessories and Products

Don't forget the power of cute hair accessories and products. Utilize sparkly barrettes and pins to sweep your bangs or the sides of your hair away from your face. Give your hair a drastic side part and pin it to the side of your face with a crystal-studded pin. Decorate your hair with a sparkly headband, which will look cute in even the shortest of hair---while also holding back your layers. Pin a small flower into the side of your hair at your ear to hide an uneven hairline and to also give you a cheerful spring look.

Change Parts

Don't be afraid to stray from your natural part. You may find that shifting your part over by just a few millimeters will help hide uneven layers. You can also use more than one part on your hair. Part the front and back in opposite directions, or use an angled part. This will hide uneven hair and keep it out of your face until it gets a little longer.

What Household Ingredients Use To Increase Hair Growth

You can use household ingredients to improve the quality of your hair.

If you want your hair to grow fast and healthy, you may have been tempted by ads for miracle products you've seen on the Internet or in magazines. In truth, long and healthy hair is not the result of a magic trick. If you want your hair to grow, you must feed it. You probably already have the right ingredients lying around the house.

Oils

Many cultures around the world use plant oils as hair treatments for thicker, longer hair. This tradition is especially common in South Asia and the Mediterranean, where people use coconut, olive and mustard oil in their hair to make it grow longer, faster and thicker. The most commonly used of the three is olive oil, which helps make your hair healthier and silkier, prevents hair loss, strengthens hair and heals the scalp. It also helps get rid of dandruff and lice. Olive oil is an ideal hair conditioner, making hair softer and more pliable.

To use olive oil to make your hair grow longer, apply it to your hair by separating the strands to reach the entire scalp. Work it into your hair, and it massage into your scalp by making circular motions with your fingers. Scrub your scalp for five minutes. Also work the oil into the hair tips to help prevent dry hair and split ends. Rinse your hair, shampoo and then use conditioner. Repeat this process several times a week to see dramatic results.

Eggs and Yogurt

Eggs and yogurt combine to make an organic hair treatment to make hair grow faster and stronger. Beat the eggs, then mix in the yogurt. Work the mixture into your hair, and let it sit for half an hour. Keep in mind that the mixture will make your hair smell unpleasant for a while even after washing. Shampoo twice to ensure you have fully removed the egg mixture, and condition as usual. The eggs contain proteins, which help strengthen hair, and the yogurt contains biological enzymes, which help make the scalp cleaner and healthier.

Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise can also make hair healthier, softer and shinier while helping it grow more quickly. Work mayonnaise into your hair as you would conditioner. Leave it in for 30 to 60 minutes, then rinse it out. Shampoo your hair until you have removed the mixture, then condition as usual. Oils in the mayonnaise make the hair softer, and the proteins make it stronger, allowing it to grow long and healthy.

Food For Hair Growth

Aside from hair treatments that help hair grow long and fast, other ingredients found around the house help hair grow healthy and long when added to your diet. Brian Thompson, trichologist and director of product development at Philip Kingsley Trichological Center in New York and London, prescribes a regimen of protein, complex carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals for optimum hair growth. He recommends eating red meat or egg whites twice a week for protein, brown rice for complex carbohydrates, and bacon and salmon for vitamins B12, zinc and protein.

Care For A Yorkshire Terrier

Care for a Yorkshire Terrier

This alert, intelligent terrier, like other dog breeds, has special characteristics and, therefore, some special needs. It is a spirited dog with a generally even disposition. Yorkshire terriers can be very noisy, so think about your neighbors when considering this breed as a pet.

Instructions

1. Be prepared to spend time on grooming and bathing this breed. Because they have long coats, Yorkies must have baths and their coats must be trimmed short or shaved for convenience and hygiene.

2. Brush your pet's hair daily to keep it free of tangles. Bathe him only when he is dirty, usually weekly. Brushing will keep the hair clean, except on the side of the body where urine collects on a male. Wash this area daily with a damp cloth and warm water. Brush the dog dry in front of a small hair dryer if you have one handy.

3. Wash mucus from the corners of the dog's eyes, daily if needed, with a cloth or wad of cotton soaked in warm water. Mucus will rot your pet's hair if it's not removed. Dry him off carefully.

4. Take special care to keep the hair around the Yorkie's anus clean. It is common for this hair to become matted with feces.

5. Keep the hair on the top third of the ear flaps trimmed very short. This way, excessive hair won't weigh down the ears before they are firmly "set," at around six months of age.

6. Get your dog's ears checked regularly for excessive wax and mites, and ask your vet to pluck the hair from inside his ears. Hair on his feet will need trimming occasionally.

7. Pay special attention to the Yorkie's eyes and teeth. Long hair should be kept out of his eyes. As with most toy breeds, Yorkies may have tartar buildup on the teeth ' so they need regular brushing. Ask your veterinarian to recommend the best products and method.

8. Get a little dog coat for the Yorkie for cold weather. Yorkies do not have an undercoat to keep them warm. A store-bought coat will keep your pet warm and cozy.

9. Invest in nutritious food for the Yorkie. These dogs eat very little, so their food needs to be healthful.

10. Note that terriers typically have little tolerance for other animals, including other dogs. Their ancestors were bred to hunt and kill vermin. Many Yorkies are eager for a spirited argument.

11. Expect a Yorkie to live a healthy 15 years if all goes well.

Wear A Hat Pin

Hat pins became popular during the Victorian era, an age when women rarely left their homes without a hat. Encrusted with jewels and long feathers, many hat pins were high fashion statements, but their function was primarily practical: to prevent women's hats from blowing off in a gust of wind or tumbling to a dirty street. The history of hat pins dates to the 1400s, when women used them to secure veils and cloth head coverings called "wimples." Hat pins steadily rose as a fashion accessory until WWII, when hats began to fall out of fashion.

Today, millions of hat pins are on the market as collector's items. However, if you choose to wear your hat and secure it with a pin, there is a correct way to do so. The one requirement is that your hair be long enough for the pin to grip.

Instructions

Hat, Pin, Mirror

1. Pick out your hat pin. Your hat pin should fit the style of your hat. Hat pins can be long (12 inches) or short (3 inches). As a general rule of thumb, the bigger your hat, the longer your pin should be.

2. Find a mirror, and place your hat securely on your head. Make sure it is at the exact angle you desire, and hold it in place with one hand.

3. Remove the topper from the pin, and place it within reach. Insert the hat pin at the back of the hat near the crown. Avoid the edges of the hat.

4. Continue pushing the pin until it touches your scalp. Push the pin upward slightly until it emerges on the side near the front (not squarely in front) of the hat's crown. Put the topper on the pin tip, while holding your hat in place with your other hand.

5. Use hat pins as accessories for your blouses, suit lapels or as a decorative feature on an elegant updo, when you're not using them to secure a fashionable hat.

Treat A Perm Burn

Treat perm burns with aloe and vitamin E.

Perms and relaxers use harsh chemicals such as lye, which work to intentionally damage your hair for a desired effect. An unfortunate side effect of the chemicals is a burning sensation when perm cream is applied directly to the skin and scalp. If you've ever been burned by a perm, you know the pain is excruciating and the trauma to your scalp may include redness, skin discoloration and scabbing. Fortunately, treating your burns is a simple process.

Instructions

1. Place your head and the burn area under cold running water and remove any excess perm cream. Firmly pat and wipe your hairline and scalp to ensure all of the cream is removed.

2. Gently part your hair with a comb to gain access to the burn sore. Take care not to further aggravate the burn. Use a mirror if it aids in your precision.

3. Coat the tip of your finger with aloe and apply it directly to the burn site. Gently smooth the aloe on the burn. This will provide cooling relief for the burn, prevents discoloration and supports healing.

4. Apply vitamin E oil to the burn and gently rub it in. Continue applying vitamin E to the burn twice a day -- once in the morning and once in the evening -- until the burns heal naturally.

5. Repeat steps two through four anywhere on your scalp that shows signs of perm burn.

Find A Great Date For Prom

Prom can be a stressful time in a teenager’s life. Not only does the perfect outfit need to be found, transportation arrangements made and money handed in every direction for expenses but you also need to make sure that when you take a date to the prom, it’s a great date that you will have a fabulous time with. Here are some helpful tips for finding a great date to the prom.

Instructions

Find a Great Date for Prom

1. Don’t have one person, and one person only, that is on your list of people that you would love to go to prom with. If you’re so sure that you’re going to go to the prom with that person before you even asked them and then they say no, then you’re stuck without a date to prom and you may not be able to go yourself. Have a list of at least three people that you would consider taking to prom.

2. Ask your date early to go to the prom. When you ask early, you have your pick of all of the people that don’t already have dates, especially because a lot of people wait until the last month to find a date. Great prom dates aren’t dateless for long. Make sure you ask months in advance so that if that person can’t go or they back out for some reason, you have enough time to find another date.

3. Ask someone that you absolutely get along with on a day to day basis. Don’t ask someone that you argue with more then you get along with just because you have a huge crush on them. You’ll spend a huge part of the night talking to this person, so you want to make sure that you don’t spend most of your night stressed out and arguing with this person instead.

4. Ask someone to be your date to the prom for their personality, not because they’re the hottest person that you know. The other person’s looks aren’t what’s going to make your night. The date that has a great personality will make sure that you’re having a fabulous time and enjoying yourself. If you can find a date that has both, then it’s even better.

5. Invite someone to the prom that will make you laugh. Sure the person may be nice, but if they can make you laugh and they have a sense of humor it will make all the difference. Prom night can be a stressful night between worrying about the weather and other possible things that could go wrong. Having someone that will ease some of that stress by making you laugh, especially when things go wrong, will definitely help make your night amazing.

6. Ask someone to the prom that is reliable. This person hands in their money on time for their side of payments regarding the prom, they are on time for everything and you know they won’t back out on you. The last thing you need to worry about on prom night is your date flaking out on you and not showing up.

Make A Ribbon Hair Bow Barrette

Make accessories that are more decorative than regular hair elastics.

Make a flamboyant hair bow from layers of short pieces of ribbon. You can customize the hair bow to make it as flamboyant or sedate as you would like and make the ribbon from as many or as few layers of ribbon as you would like. Make a colorful hair accessory from layers of different colored or patterned ribbon or make a neutral accessory from layers of the same colored ribbon.

Instructions

1. Cut 8 pieces of 1-inch-wide ribbon to about 6 inches long apiece. Use four different colored or patterned ribbons. Cut a "V" from each ribbon end to make ribbon tails. You should now have two different pieces of each colored or patterned ribbon.

2. Lay the identical ribbons on top of each other to make four piles of two. Make a wide "X" shape from each pile. Sew a stitch through the middle of each pile to keep the shapes.

3. Stack the piles on top of each other and fan them out to spread the ribbon ends around in a circle. Sew 2 stitches through the middle of the ribbons to keep them in place.

4. Cut 8 pieces of the 3/8-inch-wide ribbon. Make each piece about 8 inches long. Shape each piece of ribbon into a figure "8" and sew a stitch through the center where the ribbon ends connect.

5. Pile the shapes on top of each other and arrange them so the loops are fanned out in a circle. Sew two stitches through the center of the pile to join the ribbons. Pile the joined shapes on top of the pile of straight ribbons.

6. Cut a piece of 1 1/2-inch-wide ribbon to about 10 inches in length. Tie the ribbon into a bow. Place the bow on top of the figure "8" ribbons and sew stitches through all layers to join.

7. Spread some hot glue on the top of the metal or plastic barrette and press the joined bows down firmly on the clip.

Adjust An Andis Toutliner

The Andis T-Outliner is a professional trimmer that is ideal for trimming beards, mustaches, necks, as well as shaping around the ears. Periodically, the blades need to be re-adjusted after a normal course of wear and tear. This is usually evidenced by a loud buzzing noise when the clippers are turned on or the blade appearing to be dull when attempting to cut hair. Cleaning and adjusting the blades will return your T-Outliner to good form.

Instructions

1. Turn off your clippers and make sure they are not plugged in.

2. Unscrew the top two screws on the back of the T-Outliner blade. Take off the blade (which should contain a larger top blade and a smaller bottom blade as well as a brown piece). Slide out the bottom blade and clean both the bottom and the top blades with the clipper brush, toothbrush or dry cloth to remove any built-up hair and gunk.

3. Unscrew the smaller inner screws (there should be two of them). Remove the brown small brown piece that the bottom blade was covering.

4. Lightly spray the coolant spray onto the blades and brown piece to properly clean and sanitize.

5. Reinsert the brown piece and screw the inner screws back in halfway through the holes in the brown piece and the top blade piece. The screws should be in far enough such that the brown piece is attached to the top blade but have enough leeway such that the brown piece can be scooted up or down, away from or towards, the teeth of the top blade piece.

6. Place the smaller blade back on top of the brown piece. Move both the smaller bottom blade piece and the brown piece up toward or down away from the teeth of the top blade piece. The position of the brown piece and the smaller bottom blade piece determines how sharp the clippers are going to be.

7. Adjust according to preference and finish screwing in the inner screws.

8. Put the top blade back on top of the clipper body and replace the two top screws.

9. Turn on the clippers and lightly oil the blades. Let the clippers run for a few moments and then turn the T-Outliner off.

About Dutch Traditional Clothing & Costumes

Dutch clothing and costumes originated in the country now called the Netherlands, which has 14 provinces, and each province has its own traditional costumes. The most well-known type of dress, considered the national costume, came from the southern province of Volendam and is still wore by Dutch women for the tourists.

Head Covering

In all but one province, Dutch ladies wore some type of head covering made of either lace or stiff fabric. Some of them wore small lacy caps, a few had long lace coverings that came down passed their shoulders, while others wore the larger white-peaked ones. Some caps tied under the chin and some did not.

The men also wore hats, though mostly when outdoors; some had wide-brimmed hats while others sported a traditional fisherman's hat or flat cap.

Children's apparel mirrored the adult clothing.

Bodices and Shirts

The upper part of the women's clothing consisted of at least two layers. The first layer always had sleeves-cap sleeves, elbow-length sleeves or wrist-length sleeves-usually a dark color, but sometimes this bottom garment was white with the outer tier having color.

The outer tier of most dresses attached to the waist of the skirt but one or two had colorful tunics that were worn over darker skirts. Some women had embroidered close-fitting vests.

Men wore loose-fitting shirts, some white, some the conventional navy blue with the traditional double rows of brass buttons up the front. Many men sported a vest or suspenders.

Skirts and Trousers

Dutch women had modest skirts, usually in somber colors. Some were gathered at the waist while some of the ankle-length ones had pleats. Men had dark, loose-fitting trousers that either came to their knees or their ankles. Long socks accompanied the shorter pants. In the province of Twente, the men donned wrist-length double-breasted black coats.

Footwear

Although town and city people wore European-style leather shoes, the rural folk put on the famous wooden shoes that they called "klompen," which were also worn in many European countries such as Spain, Belgium and Germany. Traditionally hand-carved, plain and unpainted, they were perfect for the pervasive marshy lowlands that comprised the surrounding fields. Even today they are used by farmers and others who live in the rural wet areas.

The secret to wearing the hard wooden klompen lies in the thick woolen socks that Dutch women know knit that keep feet warm, dry and free from chafing.

Accessories

The most visible accessory was the apron worn by most Dutch women. Whether short and flowered or floor-length and plain, in a subdued color or white, with or without lace, these items defined the Dutch woman and the province in which she lived. Some women carried knitted pouches at their waists, and some had short shawls that attached at the waist. In some provinces, both men and women wore suspenders. For the rich, diamonds, gold and silver jewelry had been available in Amsterdam since the 1500s.

Formal Hairstyles For Thin Hair

Women with thin hair may think that they only have a few styles available to them for formal occasions. The stress of a formal event is taxing enough without factoring in hair trouble. Regardless of how thin your hair is, there are products and techniques available to give you a boost of volume. With a few pointers you'll be boasting volume in no time. Grab your favorite styling products and get ready to create.

Glamorous Bed Head

This look is ideal for thin hair that is long. This amount of volume is great for prom or a wedding. Length usually adds more thinness to the hair so this style is perfect if you want to retain length and still get volume. Take hair that isn't washed and apply a dry shampoo to the roots. Backcomb the roots with a fine-toothed comb to add lift and volume. Apply a texturizing mousse to the crown and work through the hair with your fingers. Apply hairspray to keep the style light and from going flat.

Volumized Comb-Over

This style is achievable for any hair length but looks especially nice on short hair. Take freshly washed hair and apply a volumizing mousse. Blow dry with a paddle brush so that it is straight but still gaining volume. Once hair is completely dry make a deep side part on one side. The part should start at the end of the eyebrow on either side. Brush the hair to encourage volume and also to tame tangles. Spray a shine spray liberally on the hair.

Big Curls

This style is best for long hair. Take freshly washed hair and apply a curl setting lotion from root to tips. Place large curl rollers in the hair section by section. No section should be larger than 2 inches wide. Once all rollers are in place sit under a hooded dryer until your hair is dry. Usually it takes about 30 minutes for long hair to dry under a hooded dryer. Once hair is dry allow 5 to 10 minutes for the rollers to cool and release the hair. Shake the hair out to give volume to the curls. Finger comb them with your hands and then spray with volumizing hairspray.

High Volume Ponytail

This is a great alternative to the complicated updo that some thin haired women can't master. Take freshly washed hair and apply a volumizing spray with heat protectant that is compatible for blow-drying. Volumizing heat protectants can be found at any beauty supply store. Blow dry the hair straight and apply a leave-in shine serum to reduce frizz. Your hair will have quite a bit of volume at this point. Make a side part in the hair and brush it to keep it neat and tight. Gather the hair into a low ponytail on one side and then secure it with an elastic. If you desire wrap a section of hair, no wider than an inch hair around the elastic to hide it. Embellish the hair with decorative clips for a night out. Finish with volumizing hairspray to prevent the hair from going flat.

High Volume Waves

This style is very simple and takes very little styling time. For an impromptu formal event this style is quick enough to get you out the door looking glamorous. Wash and blow-dry the hair with the fingers to encourage waves and volume. Halfway through blow-drying apply a texturizing mousse to help give the hair more textured wave. Once the hair is completely dry finish with a shine spray and a headband.

Transition Black Hair From Perm To Natural

There are many reasons to go from a perm to a natural hairstyle. These range from concerns about the damaging chemical effects of perms, a desire to embrace one's cultural heritage, or wanting a less expensive alternative to relaxing the hair. Whatever the reason for the transition, the process, while challenging at times, can be a time of fun experimentation and self-discovery. Going "natural" allows the wearer to express her personality and individuality, while working with her hair's unique texture.

Instructions

1. Seek professional guidance. Consider frequenting a salon that specializes in natural hairstyles if your own stylist is not an expert in this area. Consult your stylist for tips on the transition to and maintenance of a natural style. You will also find that the Internet is a valuable resource. There are dozens of websites and forums devoted to natural hairstyles that provide tips and advice that will aid you in the process.

2. Cut your relaxed hair where it meets your new growth. This will help you to determine what options you have for styling your hair. Cutting is also the quickest and easiest way to begin transitioning. If you decide not to cut your hair, prepare for some breakage.

3. Avoid heat on the hair, whenever possible. Use flat irons, straightening combs and blow dryers sparingly, or not at all. Ideal styles during the transition period include twists, braids, straw sets, cornrows and roller sets. The goal is to allow your hair to grow as healthy as possible. Putting heat on the hair will delay or weaken this process.

4. Moisturize your hair as much as possible. Your hair will be in a weakened state from the chemicals in the perm. Your stylist can recommend conditioners and treatments that will keep your hair hydrated. Make sure to shampoo and deep condition your hair on a weekly basis. Apply a leave-in conditioner when you style the hair. Oils such as olive oil, jojoba oil and coconut oil will keep the hair conditioned and enhance shine.

5. Handle your hair as little as possible. Avoid heavy brushing and combing. Using your fingers to style your hair will help reduce hair breakage. Do not use rubber bands to hold your hair while sleeping. Wrap the hair instead. Use a satin sleep cap and satin pillowcases. This will help the hair to retain moisture and keep it conditioned.

6. Be patient. Going from a relaxer to completely natural hair will take time. For most, this is a journey of at least six months. Don't worry if it seems as if the hair is not growing; soon your hair will be completely free of its relaxed texture. Trim your split ends frequently, moisturize everyday and you'll be able to reap the benefits of a new healthy, natural style.
