Sharpen Shaving Blades

Sharpen a razor blade using a sharpening stone or sharpening paste.

Shaving blades are used by both men and women and become dull over time with frequent use. Sharpening shaving blades is a cost-effective solution to disposable razors and new blades. Two simple items can be used to sharpen shaving blades: a special paste formulated for sharpening and a grit stone composed of coarse sand grain.

Instructions

1. Apply tape to the back of the razor where you will be holding it. This will help protect you from injury.

2. Soak the stone for 30 minutes. The stone must be wet in order to lubricate the action of the metal on the stone.

3. Hold the blade firmly between your thumb and forefinger. Run the blade across the stone in even strokes away from your body. Run the blade over the stone 20 times on both sides to ensure a sharp edge.

4. Apply shaving paste to the razor. Dip the brush (supplied with the paste) into the paste and apply to edge of the blade. The paste has abrasive compounds that sharpen the blade. Use a circular motion when applying the paste.

5. Wipe the paste off the razor using a towel.
