Shaggy Straight Hairstyles

Many find it difficult to make straight hair interesting.

Hairstyles change quickly, but the difficulty of making straight hair interesting remains. Typically it falls flat, even after hours of curling, teasing and hair spray. The following haircuts are exciting, fashionable and adaptable to any color, thickness or length of straight hair.

Hipster

The "hipster" style is short in the front and long in the back.

Urban Dictionary defines hipsters as "a subculture of men and women typically in their 20s and 30s that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter." With this reputation comes one of the most popular current hairstyles: the fashion mullet. Indeed, the fashion mullet borrows from the traditional mullet's form: long in the back and short in the front. However, by adding extra layers to the hair, the fashion mullet accomplishes a body and style all its own. This haircut should start with short bangs and progress to short layers that get longer as the hair falls down the back. To achieve this haircut, find a hair salon in a hip section of the nearest city, or look for a hairstylist who sports this style herself and/or has an example of such a hairstyle in her portfolio.

Bed Head

Let it get messy.

When going for the "rock star" look, you should think about how you look right after getting out of bed and then play off that style. For straight hair that easily falls flat, try leaving the top long and cutting the bottom just under the ears. Make sure there are lots of uneven layers to play with. Teasing and hairspray should hold well and have a more dramatic effect with this cut.

Shag

A longer version of the shag.

The basic "shag" will probably never go out of style. This cut can be played up for a wild night out or played down just in case you have a serious day job or event to attend. To achieve this cut, leave the bangs long and have them swoop like a curtain to one side of the face. Leave the hair one length everywhere except the very ends. Cut, chop and play with the length of the ends of your hair, resulting in angular edges. If you get tired of this cut, you can simply restyle it by cutting off the ends to create one even layer.
