Do Finger Waves On Long Hair

The hairstyle called "finger waves" was very popular in the 1920s and 1930s. The popular look at that time was short and wavy. If a woman was not lucky enough to already possess neat and tidy waves, she had to use her fingers, some styling product and a few clips or pins to achieve this look. Today, with improved hair technology, the finger wave look is easier to achieve and suitable even for those with long hair.

Instructions

1. Start with clean, freshly washed hair. Apply some heat protecting product and blow dry your hair while brushing hair in a downward motion. Your hair needs to be completely dry.

2. Part your hair into upper and lower sections, and then divide the bottom layer in half. Take your triple barrel curling iron and begin curling closer to the roots and work your way down on both sides of your hair.

3. Take down the top section and divide it by flipping a larger section to one side to create a deeper side part. Curl from the top down like you did with the bottom section.

4. Set your waves and smooth down any frizz with a small spritz of hairspray. You do not want too much spray though, because finger waves are supposed to look soft, not stiff or crispy.
