Wear Guyliner

Wear Guyliner

Guyliner is becoming very popular, thanks to men like Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies and by Pete Wentz, a member of the band "Fall Out Boy." Guyliner is exactly what it sounds like: eyeliner for men. Use these tips to successfully wear this increasingly popular trend.

Instructions

1. Purchase black eyeliner. Unlike women, who can choose a rainbow of eyeliner shades, men should stick to basic black eyeliner.

2. Start with a black pencil eyeliner. Pencil eyeliners are softer and more forgiving of mistakes than the liquid eyeliners. Once you master putting on guyliner, you can switch to liquid eyeliner.

3. Brace your arm against a bathroom counter and lean in very close to the mirror. Steady your hand, as applying eyeliner with a shaky hand will not create the desired result.

4. Outline your eyes, top and bottom, making the line thick. Feel free to go all the way up both corners.

5. Smudge the eyeliner upwards and outwards with your finger or a professional smudger to give it a smudged and less perfect look.

6. Practice makes perfect. Even women who have been wearing eyeliner for years can mess up the application. Have make-up remover available the first few times you put on your guyliner. Expect to remove and reapply it a few times to get it correct.

Heal Sores In Your Scalp From A Perm

The chemicals used in perms or relaxers can be harsh and irritating to your scalp. These chemicals, if not used properly can cause hair breakage and scalp burns, sores or dry patches. Even when used properly, your sensitive scalp may have a reaction to the chemicals. If you have recently gotten a perm and have noticed sores, scalp sensitivity or burns, the best thing to do is invest in some hair products and practice a hair regiment to encourage the healing process.

Instructions

1. Cleanse the hair by using a gentle shampoo. Baby shampoo will be gentle enough to clean without irritating your scalp. Rinse your hair out with lukewarm, not hot, water. Hot water can cause dryness and irritate the scalp even more.

2. Use a deep conditioner, look for one that has vitamin E in it since it can help nourish the scalp and treat the burns. Leave the conditioner in your hair while you finish your shower then rinse out. You can also condition your hair separately. Leave the conditioner in your hair for at least 15 minutes and then rinse out.

3. Avoid heating products. Again the heat can aggravate your scalp even more. Use a leave in conditioner or serum that has aloe vera or vitamin E in it. Section off your hair and apply the product on your scalp and throughout your hair. Use a wide tooth comb to comb the product evenly from your scalp to the tip of your hair.

4. Do not pick on any scabs or sores on your scalp. Constantly touching your scabs or sores with unclean fingers can lead to infection.

5. Use a skin healing ointment if your burns and sores are more severe. Apply the ointment with a cotton swab. Follow the directions on how many times you should apply ointment.

Short Hair With Bangs Wedding Styles

All brides don't have long hair.

Many wedding hairstyles focus on brides with medium to long hair, but women with short hair get married too! If you are a bride who loves her short hair and doesn't want to sacrifice it for one day, get some inspiration from the ideas below. From voluminous looks to faux updo's, there is something for every woman's sense of style.

Va Va Va Volume

Add volume and pretty texture by making waves for your wedding hairstyle. Make it all about the bangs, by sweeping them over one side and pinning up waves on the opposite side. This is a glam way to wear your hair on your wedding day.

Sleek and Chic

Celebs like Michelle Williams and Emma Watson have been showing just how girly short hair can look. If you have a pixie cut like theirs, don't spend a minute growing your hair out. Instead, wear your hair sleek and chic by styling hair with a lightweight shine-enhancing gel and then pair your ultra fem hair with an equally girly gown (think flowers and lace).

Faux Updo

If you want the look of a long hair updo without growing hair out, then try a faux updo. Typically, a bun can be created as long as you have enough hair to create a ponytail, but even if you don't, you can fake it. Using bobby pins that match your hair color, pin the back of your hair up and onto your head. Then, curl the sides and loose strands of hair. Pull your curls back and pin them up over the pinned down hair. Side sweep your bangs to one side and pin into place as well. Voila, a super chic yet fake updo.

Adding Accessories

If one of these short hair styles just doesn't do it for you, why not add an extra-special touch with some sort of accessory. Frame your bangs by adding a pretty headband. Or, let your bangs sweep to one side and pin a fresh flower to hair on the other side just above the ear. Other accessory ideas include pillbox veil, sparkly barrettes or pins and fake flowers.

Hair Perm Facts

Perms add body, curl and control to many different hair types.

Perms chemically alter hair in order to achieve wave, curl or body. While they are called permanent waves, perms are not permanent. They generally last three to four months before losing shape, but they last much longer than other methods of adding curl to hair, such as thermal styling and roller setting.

Purpose

Permanent waves are desirable for many reasons. Perms add body and wave to lifeless, flat hair. They add control to wiry, coarse hair, and they shorten the length of time that it takes to style hair.

Rod Selection

The size of the curl achieved is a direct result of the rod size used during the perming process. Larger rods result in waves and body. Small rods help create true, looping curls.

Perm Selection

There are several different types of perms, including exothermic, alkaline and acid. Exothermic perms generate heat and are used for hair that is coarse and chemically resistant. Alkaline perms are used on fine hair that is hard to curl but easily damaged. Acid perms are used to create full-bodied curl on normal and color-treated hair.

Chemical Process

Perms create curls by breaking down the natural bonds of the hair and restructuring them to mimic the shape of the rod used.

Care

Perms should never be brushed or combed when dry. Proper care includes picking out curls when wet, applying styling product and allowing to air dry. A diffusing hair dryer can be used to speed up drying.

Ideas For 8th Grade Graduation

8th graders can be difficult when it comes to gifts they'll like.

Eighth grade graduation is a big step in a teenager's life. It is a big milestone, the biggest in her life so far. This age group can be quite hard to shop for, as they tend to be quite picky.

Personal Gifts

A ring handed down through generations

Personal gifts are normally given by close friends, parents or grandparents. Examples of these would be family heirlooms, like jewelry or photographs given to each generation at roughly the same age. A ring that has been handed down to each daughter in three generations when they go into high school would be a very meaningful gift.

Give a photo book with photos of the graduate from childhood to his graduation moment. Give a customized item such as a ring or bracelet, with her name on it and favorite quote.

Cash and Gift Cards

Cash or gift cards are always appreciated by young people at any occasion, especially at a graduation. The cash amount depends on how much you have to give, how well the student did academically and how close you are with the student. Buy gift cards at clothing stores, music stores or book stores.

Flowers and Novelties

Candy leis are a festive and inexpensive gift for the graduate.

Flowers are a nice gift for female graduates. Flower leis, money leis and candy leis work for both male and female graduates. It feels great for the graduate to have multiple leis of different kinds layered upon his neck. Other novelty gifts include key chains or charms with the year of the graduation on them.

Practical Gifts

A special pen can be a simple and elegant gift for the young graduate.

Practical gifts are sometimes not as fun or festive as other choices but will come in handy and be used. A journal is a great gift for the graduate. If the graduate is an artist, a sketchbook is ideal. A book that is specific to his interests shows that you are paying attention to him and what he likes. A fine pen will be used for homework in the coming high school years. You can customize any of these gifts with a name or a monogram or quote. Other gifts include speakers for mp3 players, video games and DVDs.

Shave Your Legs Properly

flikr.com

If waxing is not your thing, then chances are you have almost perfected the art of shaving. With a few basic steps, you can get a smooth (and painless) shave every time!

Instructions

1. The first step to a smooth shave is choosing the right razor. Skip borrowing your bf/hubbie's razor and get one of your own. Go for a triple blade for a close shave. Schick Intuition Plus is a great one if you frequently experience razor burn or dryness; this razor has the moisturizing shave 'bar' attached to the blades. (The only downside is the price and how quickly the solid wears down).

2. Always start with wet legs; soaking in a warm bath before beginning is best to soften the hair. Dry shaving can lead to painful razor burn and ingrown hairs.

3. Lather the legs with a shaving cream, foam or gel. There are many to choose from depending on your skin type. Avoid using regular bar soap as it can lead to razor burn.

4. Starting at the ankle, gently glide the razor up the leg in long sweeps; working your way up to the thigh. Go over the area two or three times to remove all of the hair; rinse the razor after each stroke. You will need to move the razor around curves of the leg such as knees and ankles.

5. When finished, rinse all shaving creams from the legs with warm water. Dry the legs and apply a moisturizing body cream or lotion.

Make Snoods

Women can choose from a multitude of fabrics when creating their snoods.

Snoods resemble decorative hairpieces and come in many styles. They go over the head and close in the back. Snoods can fully cover a women's head, or she can choose to let some strands of hair wisp out of it. Women with any hair type and length can wear snoods. Whether you want to wear a snood for work, a special occasion, or a sporting event, you can make snoods easily and inexpensively.

Instructions

1. Decide on the pattern you want to use to make a snood. Choose from net material, fabrics, denim, sheer fabrics, and wool. Base your decision on current temperatures in your area and the occasion for which you plan to wear your snood.

2. Use a tape measure to determine the dimensions of your head. Decide how much fabric to use based on the measurements.

3. Fold the fabric in half and check that the width is half of your head's diameter and that the length is approximately as long as your head. Cut the corners off the bottom edges to give it a nice, rounded shape.

4. Unfold the your fabric and fold the top edge 1.5 inches. Sew directly across the folded fabric. Use this as a tube to put your drawstring through.

5. Refold the hairpiece in half and place the rough side of your fabric facing up. Sew the bottom and surrounding sides near the edges, but make sure you leave enough room for your drawstring tube.

Shave Your Head For Lice

Shaving your head is a very drastic solution for a lice problem.

A lice infestation is an itchy and uncomfortable experience that is especially common for children, who may contract lice in the confines of the classroom. Contrary to popular belief, lice do not spread disease or indicate poor hygiene. The normal solution for lice is to wash with an insecticide shampoo. Shaving of the head is a very drastic alternative, although it will eliminate lice and eggs. If you do choose to shave your head, follow the same procedure as you would for shaving any other part of the body.

Instructions

1. Cut your hair close to your scalp with a pair of scissors if it is more than a couple of inches long. This can be done quickly and messily; the goal is simply to get the hair short enough for a pair of clippers to remove the rest of it.

2. Go over your head with electric hair clippers adjusted to their shortest possible setting. These settings are generally numbered from 1 to 5, with "1" being the shortest. There is no need for a completely even cut, but getting the hair down to stubble is necessary to avoid clogging your razor.

3. Take a shower. This will soften and wet the skin of your head, making for a closer and smoother shave and less chance of razor burn.

4. Rub shave gel or foam into the skin of your head. It will help lubricate your razor and soak into the hair, softening it for cutting.

5. Pick a spot on your head and start shaving. It is best to start on a spot where your hair is relatively soft, such as the top. This lets your shave gel have more time to work into the coarse hair on the back and sides of your head. Use a hand-held mirror to see the back of your head. Just stand in front of your bathroom mirror and let the hand-held one reflect the image of your head into it.

6. Shave against the grain of your hair (the direction that the hairs protrude from the skin) if you would like the shave to be a close one. This is best if you are shaving to deal with lice. Shaving in this way risks irritating sensitive skin, though, so you may wish to shave with the grain if you know your skin to be easily irritated. Avoid going over any part of your scalp more than once.

7. Pass your razor under hot water regularly to remove the hair that builds up in it. Head hair is dense, so you will need to do this after every stroke.

8. Wash your newly shaved head with warm water and soap, then pat it dry with a towel.

9. Apply soothing lotion or aftershave to your head to avoid getting a rash.

Shaggy Straight Hairstyles

Many find it difficult to make straight hair interesting.

Hairstyles change quickly, but the difficulty of making straight hair interesting remains. Typically it falls flat, even after hours of curling, teasing and hair spray. The following haircuts are exciting, fashionable and adaptable to any color, thickness or length of straight hair.

Hipster

The "hipster" style is short in the front and long in the back.

Urban Dictionary defines hipsters as "a subculture of men and women typically in their 20s and 30s that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter." With this reputation comes one of the most popular current hairstyles: the fashion mullet. Indeed, the fashion mullet borrows from the traditional mullet's form: long in the back and short in the front. However, by adding extra layers to the hair, the fashion mullet accomplishes a body and style all its own. This haircut should start with short bangs and progress to short layers that get longer as the hair falls down the back. To achieve this haircut, find a hair salon in a hip section of the nearest city, or look for a hairstylist who sports this style herself and/or has an example of such a hairstyle in her portfolio.

Bed Head

Let it get messy.

When going for the "rock star" look, you should think about how you look right after getting out of bed and then play off that style. For straight hair that easily falls flat, try leaving the top long and cutting the bottom just under the ears. Make sure there are lots of uneven layers to play with. Teasing and hairspray should hold well and have a more dramatic effect with this cut.

Shag

A longer version of the shag.

The basic "shag" will probably never go out of style. This cut can be played up for a wild night out or played down just in case you have a serious day job or event to attend. To achieve this cut, leave the bangs long and have them swoop like a curtain to one side of the face. Leave the hair one length everywhere except the very ends. Cut, chop and play with the length of the ends of your hair, resulting in angular edges. If you get tired of this cut, you can simply restyle it by cutting off the ends to create one even layer.

Semiformal Hairstyles

Dinners out, the theater, dances and other occasions require semiformal hairstyles. While these events do not require a stiff and professionally created updo, they do need something more than your usual blow dry or ponytail. Any length hair can be styled into flattering and appropriate semiformal hairstyles. Choose your semiformal hairstyle based on your haircut, face shape and outfit for the evening.

Soft and Loose

Wearing your hair loose is ideal for semiformal occasions. Wear it straight, wavy or curly. Use a curling iron to add soft curls to your hair or flat iron it for a smooth look. Opt for products with a soft finish to avoid creating a stiff and untouchable look. Accent your hair with a small jeweled barrette or clip to finish off your style. Loose and soft semiformal hairstyles work well for many events; however, if you do wear your hair loose, keep in mind wind and weather.

Updos

Classic updo hairstyles also work well for semiformal occasions. An updo may be a good choice for a business or outdoor event. Keep your updo simple to avoid creating an overly formal hairstyle. A semiformal updo might be a french twist or chignon. A half updo is also an excellent choice for a semiformal hairstyle, allowing you to keep your hair out of your face and under control, but still wear it loose and flowing.

Short Semiformal Hairstyles

If you have very short hair, adding a bit of formality to your look can be surprisingly easy. Consider adding a small jeweled comb or clip to your hair or swapping out your usual styling product for a shine enhancing version. Finger waves or pin curls are a good choice for short semiformal hairstyles as well and you can create the look at home quite easily. Depending upon the length of your hair, you may find retro looks work well for dressing up your everyday short hairstyle.

Shag Hairstyles From The 1970s

Layers define the shag hairstyle.

The iconic 1970s shag hairstyle continues to adorn both celebrity and common heads, though with continually revamped and updated style. A versatile 'do on both men and women, the purposely disheveled look suits most any hair type. However, those with particularly fine hair should avoid this cut. A shag cut can reflect varied personalities, from wild and long to shorter and more tamed. Famous faces such as David Bowie and David Cassidy showed off the shag style in the 1970s.

The Cut

A 1970s shag consists of layers throughout the hair, with shorter layers on top and longer layers at the bottom. The choppy nature of the shag gives hair definition and movement. A skilled stylist can adapt a shag to work well with your hair texture, face shape and best features. If you have a large forehead, for example, the addition of long blunt bangs will minimize it. Layers that stop at your jawline or cheekbones will highlight those features.

Layers

The most important component of the shag cut is the layers. Razor cutting commonly achieves the heavily layered look. This technique involves razoring the ends of the hair to achieve a sharp, angled, choppy effect. Shorter layers at the top of the head create height and volume. Layers can be cut to any length but the shag will work best on mid-length to longer hair. Thinning shears give the style more definition and make it more manageable on particularly thick hair.

Length

The length of your shag will dramatically alter the appearance of your style. The 1970s shag cuts come in a range of lengths from chin-length to past the shoulders. For a fuller or round face, choose a longer cut to elongate your face. Shorter shag cuts can grow out to longer shag styles. Because of the messy nature of the style, it will retain some of its shape during the awkward transition phase.

Styling

The shag shouldn't look neat and tidy, but messy and natural. Although at first glance the shag make look like a simple "wash and wear" style, it often involves time invested in meticulously styling the layers in a way that looks undone, similarly to the surfer style. A 1970s shag is suitable for those who want a carefree look but are willing to style it each morning. To keep your shag looking its best, maintain it with regular trims every six to eight weeks.

Do Finger Waves On Long Hair

The hairstyle called "finger waves" was very popular in the 1920s and 1930s. The popular look at that time was short and wavy. If a woman was not lucky enough to already possess neat and tidy waves, she had to use her fingers, some styling product and a few clips or pins to achieve this look. Today, with improved hair technology, the finger wave look is easier to achieve and suitable even for those with long hair.

Instructions

1. Start with clean, freshly washed hair. Apply some heat protecting product and blow dry your hair while brushing hair in a downward motion. Your hair needs to be completely dry.

2. Part your hair into upper and lower sections, and then divide the bottom layer in half. Take your triple barrel curling iron and begin curling closer to the roots and work your way down on both sides of your hair.

3. Take down the top section and divide it by flipping a larger section to one side to create a deeper side part. Curl from the top down like you did with the bottom section.

4. Set your waves and smooth down any frizz with a small spritz of hairspray. You do not want too much spray though, because finger waves are supposed to look soft, not stiff or crispy.

Do A French Twist

Give your hair a new look and try putting it in a French twist. If you have medium to long hair, this hairdo goes with every occasion. With a French twist, you can dress it up for a special event or leave it plain for everyday wear. This is a classic look that takes little to no time to create.

Instructions

1. Brush hair so that it is free from knots. You can make it wavy or even take a straightening iron to the ends of your hair (depends on how you want the showing hair to look at the end). As long as you have a clean head of hair, the look does not matter very much.

2. Part the hair how you want the front to look. Bring your hair back to a low ponytail. Hold the hair at the bottom of your head with your hand.

3. Twist hair up, starting from the bottom (use both hands for leverage). Keep the twist close to your head. Once you have it twisted, keep it tight. If the twist is not lying very flat, take your hand over the twist, pushing the hair over into the crease of the twist.

4. Take bobby pins, one at a time, and secure the twist (while you are still holding your hair, use the opposite hand). Use as many pins as necessary. Open the bobby pin and start placing them in the bottom of the twist. Put it in, direct away from twist, then touch your head with the pin and tuck it up under the twist. Work your pins up the side of the twist until it feels like it will stay on it’s own.

5. Fix the top of hair sticking out with a curling iron for a formal look or leave it stuck out for an everyday look.

Do A Pageant Hairstyle

The right tools can give you a long-lasting, versatile hairstyle.

Beauty pageants were once famous for bright makeup and big hair. The emphasis has shifted to makeup that showcases a contestant's natural beauty and hair that is simple, soft and easy. The trend brings out a contestant's best features and puts the attention on her talent and personality. When planning and practicing your pageant hairstyle, choose a style that can easily transform throughout the pageant.

Instructions

1. Apply a volumizing spray and a dry shampoo to your hair.

2. Backcomb the hair at the top of your head to add volume.

3. Wrap 1-inch sections of hair around a medium-sized barrel curling iron. Hold the hair in place instead of using the clamp to create soft waves. Repeat until your entire head has been styled and mist with hairspray.

4. Gather your hair to form a loose, low ponytail. Make sure you do not pull too tightly, which can take the volume out of your hair.

5. Take hold of the ponytail and twist it in a counterclockwise motion.

6. Secure the twist with bobby pins.

7. Touch up the waves with the curling iron and apply hairspray.

Use Mizani Thermasmooth

The Thermasmooth system is intended to help tame curl and frizz.

Mizani Thermasmooth is a salon-grade professional hair care system that is intended to help smooth curly or frizzy hair while conditioning and protecting it in the process. According to Mizani's website, the Thermasmooth system is great for people with natural or color-treated hair, people with hair that is growing out a relaxer, or people whose hair has already been relaxed but desire more time between relaxer touch-ups. This four-step process is best when customized by the stylist to suit individual clients' needs.

Instructions

1. Use Mizani Thermasmooth Shampoo to cleanse the hair. When working with wavy hair, curly or excessively curly hair, it is best to use 1 oz. of product on wet hair. After lathering, rinse the hair completely using lukewarm water. Repeat the shampooing process once more. This cleansing step is designed to prepare the hair for the rest of the smoothing procedure.

2. Towel blot and gently massage a moderate amount of Mizani Thermasmooth Conditioner into the hair and scalp. When working with wavy hair, comb the conditioner through with a wide-tooth comb and let it sit for three to five minutes before rinsing with lukewarm to cool water. Curly hair does best when a plastic cap is placed over the hair after conditioner is combed through. After applying the plastic cap, sit under a warm dryer for five minutes, cool down for one minute, and rinse hair in the same fashion as with wavy hair. If hair is excessively wavy, treat it as you would with curly hair, but sit under the dryer for 10 minutes instead of five. Then follow the same rinsing process as wavy or curly hair.

3. Smooth the hair using Mizani Thermasmooth Smooth Guard Smoothing Serum. Towel dry the hair. When working with wavy hair, evenly apply one to two pumps of Smooth Guard throughout the hair. Then section hair into four parts, securing with clips for control, and completely blow the hair dry.

When working with curly or excessively curly hair, use two to three pumps of Smooth Guard. Section hair into four parts, as with wavy hair, but use an additional one to two pumps as needed while blowing each section of hair dry. Continue the process until you reach the desired smoothness in the hair.

4. Apply Thermasmooth Shine Extend Anti-Humidity Spritz. Set the heating tool to the appropriate temperature for your hair type and texture, and then section the hair for styling. Slightly spray each section of the hair with Shine Extend. Then, smooth 1/4-inch sections, according to hair density, until all the hair has been straightened. For curly or excessively curly hair, slightly spray additional Shine Extend to finish and help lock in style.

What Is The Correct Way To Put On A Toilet Paper Roll

What is the Correct Way to Put on a Toilet Paper Roll?

As long as toilet paper rolls have existed, there has been debate about whether the loose end of the roll should be under the roll or over it. Both camps have relevant viewpoints, but for practical purposes the "over" method is preferable. Of course, the toilet paper police are not going to give you a ticket for positioning your toilet paper in the "under" position, but you'll see from the strategies below why the "over" method is better.

Hotels Use "Over"

Fine hotels have the last say in superior housekeeping, and they use the "over" position for their toilet paper rolls. Hotel housekeepers even emphasize the positioning of toilet paper rolls by folding the ends of the roll into a neat triangle on top of the roll.

Easy Grasp

The "over" method of hanging toilet paper rolls leads to an easier grasp of the end of the roll. You never have to go searching for the end of the roll against the wall or fumbling with the entire roll.

Good Manners

Etiquette dictates that you should make life as easy as possible for those around you. By hanging the toilet paper roll in the "over" position, you are behaving in the same way you behave when you open the door for someone who has his or her arms full of groceries. You're making life more convenient for those around you because the end of the roll is always apparent. People don't have to go searching for the end of the paper behind the roll.

Good Hygiene

The less people have to handle the toilet paper roll and its dispenser, the more hygienic your bathroom will be. The "under" position for toilet paper requires a little more hands-on effort because you have to find the toilet paper behind the roll, and thus can risk spreading germs. The "over" position makes the end of the roll much more accessible and thus more hygienic.

Saving Paper

The "over" method for hanging toilet paper reduces the amount of paper used because you don't have to roll out as much paper. In order to find the end of the roll in the "under" position, people often spin the roll, which causes too much paper to unwind. You may find yourself buying toilet paper less often if you use the "over" method of positioning your toilet paper.

Sharpen Shaving Blades

Sharpen a razor blade using a sharpening stone or sharpening paste.

Shaving blades are used by both men and women and become dull over time with frequent use. Sharpening shaving blades is a cost-effective solution to disposable razors and new blades. Two simple items can be used to sharpen shaving blades: a special paste formulated for sharpening and a grit stone composed of coarse sand grain.

Instructions

1. Apply tape to the back of the razor where you will be holding it. This will help protect you from injury.

2. Soak the stone for 30 minutes. The stone must be wet in order to lubricate the action of the metal on the stone.

3. Hold the blade firmly between your thumb and forefinger. Run the blade across the stone in even strokes away from your body. Run the blade over the stone 20 times on both sides to ensure a sharp edge.

4. Apply shaving paste to the razor. Dip the brush (supplied with the paste) into the paste and apply to edge of the blade. The paste has abrasive compounds that sharpen the blade. Use a circular motion when applying the paste.

5. Wipe the paste off the razor using a towel.

Texturizing Techniques

A texturized style

When applying a texturizer to your hair, you're not trying to completely straighten it, as you would with a regular relaxer. A texturizer does use the same chemicals as a relaxer, however, and should be used with care. Following the directions to only partially relax the curl can lead to good results that leave you with a wavy, wash-and-go style.

Consider Your Natural Texture

Before using a texturizer, you need to look at your hair's natural texture to determine how it will react. Some hair straightens quickly, while other hair textures require stronger chemicals or a longer processing time. You always should do a strand test on a small, inconspicuous area of your hair before applying chemicals all over.

Think about what you want for a final result. You may want very tight curls to loosen up into big waves, or you may just want a slight texture difference for greater manageability.

Apply to Virgin Hair Only

When you apply a texturizer to your hair for the first time, it should only be applied to virgin hair, or hair that doesn't already have any chemical straighteners on it. If your hair has been previously relaxed or texturized, only put the chemicals on your new growth. You should wait at least eight weeks between chemical processes so you have enough new growth to target.

Don't overlap chemical processes; this will lead to breakage and damage. Whenever possible, it's best to have a professional or friend help you with chemical applications. It can be difficult to see and work on the back of your head if you're alone.

It's not uncommon to have different textures of hair on one head, so you may need to apply the texturizer to tighter curls first before moving on to loosely curled areas. This will ensure that you get a uniform result all over your head.

Requires Shorter Processing Time

The biggest difference between a relaxer and texturizer is the processing time. A texturizer can be left on for 5 to 10 minutes. It should not be combed through the hair, not even the new growth. Simply apply the chemicals to virgin hair, completely coating these strands, and allow it to sit before rinsing and following up with a neutralizing shampoo to stop the chemical actions.

Once the hair is properly texturized, you won't need to touch up the new growth as often as you would with a relaxer, because the curly hair blends much better than new growth coming into straightened hair. You usually can go 10 to 12 weeks between texturizer touch-ups versus eight weeks for relaxers.

Spice Up A Plastic Tablecloth

Spice up a basic tablecloth with vinyl decals.

Spice up a simple plastic tablecloth with stylish vinyl decals. Vinyl decals are available in a wide selection of styles and designs to suit your interior decorating needs. They are typically placed on walls to create a contemporary design, but you can also use them to add a special touch to a drab plastic tablecloth. For example, you can select a damask print for a modern take on a traditional print or choose something else, such as an animal print, for a child's tablecloth. The possibilities are limited only by your creativity.

Instructions

1. Place the vinyl decals on a work surface with the clear side facing up. Apply even pressure entirely across each decal with the plastic decal applicator. This process will ensure that the clear transfer tape adheres to the decal parts.

2. Spread out the tablecloth on a work surface. Lay out the decals in an aesthetically pleasing configuration on the tablecloth.

3. Remove the decal backing from each decal one at a time. Place the side that you removed the backing from down against the tablecloth in the desired place. Run the applicator across the surface of the clear transfer tape of the decal to smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles and to make sure that the decal parts adhere to the tablecloth.

4. Slowly peel the clear transfer tape from each decal, making sure that the vinyl decal parts remain attached to the tablecloth and don't lift up with the transfer tape.

Young Celebrity Hairstyles

Young celebrity hairstyles are up-to-date and fashionable.

Celebrity hairstyles act as an inspiration for the rest of the world. They are always beautifully styled, chic, and trendy. Young Hollywood's styles are especially up-to-date and fashion forward. Young celebrity styles are often mature enough for adults to wear, but are worn by younger girls as well who look up to the young starlets as role models. When deciding on a hairstyle, find a celebrity that has a face shape similar to yours, and draw inspiration from one of her styles.

Braids

Braids are trendy among younger celebrities and some of the older stars as well. They are for casual situations as well as the red carpet. Lauren Conrad and Hayden Panettiere are among the younger celebrities making braids popular. There are various celebrity hairstyles with braids. One popular style consists of small, thin braids at the sides of the head pulled back into an updo, or left in a half updo style. A popular variation is to pull the hair into a side part and French braid only the bangs and front. Braid the hair back into the side and pull remaining forward to fall over the end of the braid, hiding the pins.

Bobs

Bobs have become a popular style for every age group. Young Hollywood starlets are making bold moves and trading in their long locks for this chic style. Angled bobs are a popular type. For this style, hair is shorter in the back and then angled in toward each side of the face, gradually becoming longer. Celebrities often wear this style with side swept or blunt cut bangs. Celebrities such as Katie Holmes and Rihanna have made bobs popular among the younger Hollywood age group.

Waves

Waves are a popular style among young celebrities such as Blake Lively and Lindsay Lohan. A wide-barreled curling iron can make waves that rival the celebrities. The key to this type of style is to make it piecy and messy-looking. Wrap hair around a large-barreled curling iron for only a few seconds. Curling larger sections of hair and holding the hair on the curling iron for a shorter amount of time creates looser waves so popular among young Hollywood. Spray the hair with a medium-hold hairspray so it is still moveable.

Sharpen Scissors On A Whetrock

Dull scissors are frustrating and useless

Scissors can go dull pretty quickly when they are not taken care of properly (or if they are cheap scissors). Instead of dealing with the fact that your scissors barely cut through paper, try sharpening them every so often. A whetrock is a soft stone that can be used on your scissors and knives. Using a whetrock to sharpen your scissors is a quick way to get your shears in tip-top shape again.

Instructions

1. Add a little water to the stone so that it is lubricated. Most stones should be lubricated before sharpening any blade, and a little water is normally all that's needed.

2. Hold the scissors (opened) in your dominant hand. Hold the stone in your nondominant hand. Bring the beveled edge of the first blade to the whetrock.

3. Slide the blade forward on the whetrock and begin a figure eight motion to sharpen the blade. Always sharpen the blade from the point to the pivot (from the tip of the blade to the screw in the middle of the blades).

4. Relubricate the stone, and then repeat Steps 2 and 3 with the second blade of the scissors.

5. Place your fingers in the scissor's handle, and open and close the blades quickly. Any leftover burrs will fall off of the blades when they are opened and closed. Wipe off the blades with a paper towel, and your scissors are ready for use.

8th Grade Graduation Party Ideas

Eighth-grade graduates sometimes get lost in the shuffle. Parents make a big deal of kindergarten and elementary graduations, and later they host big high school celebrations. But it's also great to reward middle schoolers for making it through, and a fun way to do that is to throw a party for them and their peers. Make it different from a birthday party or July 4 barbecue--celebrate the occasion with a fun, more formal meal and then let the kids enjoy outdoor activities and a movie.

Ask a Crowd

Invite more kids than usual. Especially if other graduation parties are going on at the same time, you may have to invite 15 guests to get 10. It's not really a graduation party if only three or four people show up. Two helpful tips: Invite enough adults to help chaperone--it's nice to have at least one grownup on hand for every five kids. And don't invite a few of the kids to stay overnight. That's a sure way to create hard feelings.

Custom Invitations

Mail or e-mail invitations to let kids and parents know about the party. Middle schoolers are too grown up for cute preprinted invites--use something cool and imaginative. You can design your own invitations using free graduation graphics from websites such as Hellasmultimedia.com. Make sure the invitation specifies the beginning and ending time of the party. If you want the dress to be a little fancier than usual, mention that as well.

No Cutesy Decor

It's your choice whether to decorate for the party--most middle schoolers concentrate more on socializing than decor. If you decide to dress up the place, you don't have to use kitschy theme decor like cardboard mortarboards taped to the wall.. Make the place festive with streamers, balloons and flowers--things that please all generations, including the one in the middle.

Fun, Fancy Meal

Serve a sit-down dinner with fancy place settings. Graduation is a special day, so why not let the kids feel special? It's fun to have adults and siblings dress as wait staff and serve the kids in courses. Get away from pizza and burgers for this nice meal. You don't have to spend a fortune on good cuts of meat--try chicken, veggies and mashed potatoes; lasagna, salad and garlic bread; or homemade mac and cheese.

Games and Movie

After dinner provide Wii games, ping-pong and air hockey. Introduce games that may be new to some kids--think badminton, croquet or shuffleboard. Middle schoolers mostly have outgrown organized party activities, but some--like treasure hunts--can still be fun. Show a movie to end the festivities, and serve candy, drinks and popcorn.

Create Elegant And Formal Updo Hairstyles

Some occasions call for a formal hair do, and elegant hairstyles are all the rage. You see them on the runway and in magazines, but you don't need a professional to make your hair look great for that special occasion. You can create elegant and formal hairstyles on your own.

Instructions

1. Start with hair that you can work with easily. This can either be freshly washed hair with added product for hold and shine, or hair that hasn't been washed for a day or two. You know your hair, and how it performs under pressure, so keep your personal hair in mind before you begin.

2. Pull your hair back, away from the face. Pin the front of your hair back,at the nape of the neck with bobby pins or glittery barrettes. This leaves you with long hair in the back, and for curly hair, it is one of many romantic yet elegant formal hairstyles.

3. Create an elegant and formal hairstyle by simply twisting your hair up in a bun. To do this, you simply twist the hair, and begin folding it into a coiled shape as you twist. When your hair is in a bun, secure it with bobby pins and hairspray for added hold.

4. Take the front section of your hair, about an inch or two at the hair line, and separate it from the rest of your hair. Tease the hair at the crown of your head to give it volume. Then, cover the teased hair with the sleek hair from the front, and pull it all back in an elegant ponytail for a formal evening look.

5. Choose a hairstyle that matches your attitude. If you are a formal, straight-laced kind of gal, then go for a French twist. Pull your hair back to the nape of your neck, twist it back and up. Tuck any left over hair into the twisted portion on the back of your head, and pin the entire do in place. Add some hairspray for extra hold.

6. Make easy elegant and formal hairstyles with your hair down. Especially if it has a lot of body and bounce to it naturally, you can add curl, spray and pin a few strands back away from your face with decorative bobby pins.

Set Curls With Lotion

You must use curlers to set curls in lotion-moistened hair.

Since the early twentieth century, women and hairstylists have used setting lotion to create hairstyles requiring shiny, natural-looking full heads of curls. Unlike harsher setting agents like mousse, gel and hairspray, setting lotion leaves hair shiny and moisturized and allows the curls to keep a natural, loose bounce. When you apply it properly, setting lotion will keep your curls in place for several days. While it's not a permanent curling agent like a perm or a body wave, setting curls with lotion is a proven way to get a head full of healthy, moisturized curls with relative ease.

Instructions

1. Thoroughly wash and wet your full head of hair. Treat with a deep conditioner to protect against the heat of the hair dryer required in a later step. Rinse your hair thoroughly, unless the conditioner is a leave-in conditioner. In this case, comb the conditioner through your hair to evenly distribute it all the way to the ends. Do not dry your hair.

2. Apply the setting lotion. Use very little at a time. Pour a quarter-sized amount into the palm of your hand. Distribute it evenly through your hair with your fingers, adding more as required for longer or thicker hair. Coat your hair evenly. Ensure that you don't apply so much lotion that your hair begins to clump together and look stringy. Comb your hair with a wide-tooth comb to ensure you've applied the lotion to all parts of your hair.

3. Separate your hair into four or five sections. Secure each section by twisting the section of hair gently and securing it with a sturdy hair clip.

4. Roll your hair into curlers, beginning at the top of your head. Roll them onto the curlers in square-inch sections. Use smaller curlers toward the crown of your head; use the larger curlers toward the bottom of your hair. Keep rolling your hair until all the sections of your hair are rolled into curlers.

5. Sit under a hair dryer for at least 40 minutes. Once the 40 minutes have run out, carefully unroll one curler to ensure that the curl is completely dry. If parts of the curl are still damp or wet, sit under the dryer for 15 more minutes and recheck a different curl. Continue sitting under the hair dryer in 15-minute increments until the curls feel completely dry when you unroll them.

6. Remove all the curlers from your hair. Use your fingers to separate and style the curls to your liking.

Instructions For A Bridal Hair Bun

The exact instructions for a bridal hair bun depend on which of the many styles you choose. Bridal hair buns are the most popular hairstyle for brides across the globe. They can be tight, loose, simple, elaborate, high, low, braided, twisted, decorated or plain. As long as you use the proper tools and appropriate style, the results tend to be attractive on any face shape or hair type.

Choosing

The bridal hair bun that works best for you will depend on your hair length and hair decorations. The more elaborate the bun, the more volume and length your hair will need. If you choose to wear a veil, know where it will be attached to the head and if the bun should be above or below that area. If you plan on skipping the veil and wearing a decoration, such as a flower or tiara, also think about the decoration and bun positioning.

Tools

The most important tools for creating a bridal hair bun are an appropriate brush and strong bobby pins. An appropriate brush simply means a quality brush/comb/pick suited for your needs. For example, if your bun style requires parting the hair with sharp lines, you're going to need a small, sturdy comb. If the style requires brushing the hair back in a smooth and even shape, you're going to need a flat brush.

Strong bobby pins are a vital part of creating an attractive and secure bridal hair bun. Though combs and barrettes can help shape your hair, they cannot secure the overall style the way bobby pins can. Use plain metal bobby pins that remain hidden in your hair for a simple style or decorated bobby pins that peek out from your tresses for a fancy style.

Styles

The most popular bridal hair bun is a simple chignon. The hair is pulled straight back and twisted into a simple, flat, smooth bun at the nape of the neck. It is secured with bobby pins and can be worn plain, decorated or with any veil. A messy chignon is created in the same manner, except you should pull some strands of hair loose around the face and let the tips of your hair spike out from the bun.

A popular and elegant bridal hair bun style is the French twist. The hair is pulled back into a ponytail at the nape of the neck and twisted upward into a smooth coil. The ends of the hair are tucked into the coil and the entire look is secured with bobby pins. It can be worn plain or decorated. It can also be worn with high or low sitting veils. However, veils that attach toward the middle of the head look awkward with French twists.

A fancy bridal hair bun with curls is very popular for middle and low sitting veils. The style starts by pulling the hair into a slick and high ponytail toward the back of the crown. The ponytail is divided into five to eight sections. Each section is curled into a large and tight coil pinned in place to create a round bun shape.

First Communion Hairstyles For Girls

First Communion Hairstyles for Girls

A First Holy Communion is a rite of passage in many sects of the Christian faith that is typically made around the age of 7 or 8. On this very special day, looking your best is important . A hairstyle can help a young girl look formal and polished for this special occasion.

A Curly Bun

For a girl with medium to long hair, a curly bun is elegant and sophisticated. To achieve, pull the hair back into a neat, high ponytail. Split the ponytail into 1 inch sections, using a curling iron to curl each section. Using pins, pin the curls around the base of the ponytail until it is completely covered along the top, bottoms and sides. Faux flowers or pretty pins can be placed in and around the bun to add more interest to the style.

Curly Ponytails

This hairstyle comes from Little Girls Hairstyles and is sweet and whimsical for a First Holy Communion. To create this style, curl your child's shoulder-length or longer hair using a curling iron or hot rollers. Once the hair is curled, split the hair in three sections: on the top, in the middle and on the bottom. Using hair ties, secure each section into a ponytail along the midline of the head, one on top of the other. Use a few curls from the ponytails to hide the hair ties- securing with bobby pins.

Wear It Down

Girls with any length hair, short, medium or long, can wear it down and have it styled formally. There are a variety of ways to wear hair down. It can be parted to the side, and using a roller brush and a hairdryer, curled under to look polished and neat. Ringlets, loose curls and hair that is curled just at the end can be created using a curling iron or hot rollers. Pretty barrettes or a head band can be used to pull back just the front or sides of the hair, allowing the back half of the hair to be worn down.

Half Up, Half Down

A half up, half down hairstyle is very sweet for a little girl to wear on her First Holy Communion. There are a few ways a half up, half down style can be worn. Pull the top half of the hair back so that it is smooth. Secure it near the top of the head with a hair tie or a pretty clip to create a polished look. Another option is to part the hair down the middle and separate a small section of hair along the hairline on either side of the head. Pull these two sections of the hair back, joining them together and securing with a hair tie or clip. A half up, half down hairstyle can be worn with both straight and curly hair.

Sharpen Hair Clippers

Hair clippers are designed to be self-sharpening. As the metal blades glide past each other they rub together, continually honing a sharp edge as you cut. Nonetheless, under some conditions, clippers can get dull. If the blade is not oiled and cleaned regularly or if it corrodes, it can become dull. This can cause it to pull your hair instead of cutting it, and to give a ragged, uneven cut.

Instructions

1. Remove the blades. Most clippers have two screws near the top that hold the blades together. Unscrew them and take both blades out, making sure to note how everything fits so you can put the clippers back together when you are done.

2. Look at the blades. Notice any dirt or hairs on them. Look closely to see if there is rust.

3. Brush away dirt and hair. Use a small brush to clean off both blades and to clean any hairs out of the body of the clippers underneath the blade assembly. Then, run a soft cloth over the blades and the inside of the clippers.

4. If the blades are rusty, dip the cloth in rubbing alcohol and really scrub the blades off. If there is a lot of rust, you may want to start with a coarse cloth or a plastic dish scrubber and then use a finer cloth.

5. Put the blades back together, making sure to tighten the screws enough. Put several drops of blade oil on the blades. Run the clippers for a good five minutes without cutting any hair to give the blades time to sharpen each other.

Hair Cuts & Short Styles For Older Women

It is natural for hair to thin with old age.

As a woman, growing older can lead to embarrassing hair thinning. This condition can be disguised with a proper haircut or hairstyle so that the hair appears to be volumized and full. Shorter hairstyles work well on older women because they not only hide thinning hair but also draw attention away from fine lines and wrinkles. Choose a short hairstyle that suits your personal style and maintenance preferences.

Short and Trimmed

Short and trimmed hair works well for older women with very thin hair; this style requires little to no maintenance, making it ideal for those with limited range of motion. To create this style, ask your hairdresser to cut your hair to 2 inches in length all over and layer the hair down to 1 inch. The layering adds the illusion of thick hair by cutting the top layers slightly shorter than the bottom layers. To style this haircut, put a small dollop of medium hold mousse in your palm and work it into your hair until dry. Follow by combing the hair smooth, and the style is ready to wear.

Short and Curly

Short, curly hairstyles work well for older women, as they draw attention up, away from a drooping neckline, to the eyes and mouth. This style works best for women with naturally curly hair; however, a medium perm will add curls to straight hair. To create this style, ask your hairdresser to cut your hair just above chin length and layer it to add volume and body. In order to style this hair, simply comb the curls smooth and finish with an even layer of medium hold hairspray to keep stray hairs in check.

Short with Bangs

Short, straight hair with bangs will frame the face of an older woman, making the neckline appear long and feminine. To achieve this style, ask your hairdresser to layer your hair at chin length before adding bangs to the style. The bangs should be cut in to sweep away from the face on either side, just below eye level, to frame the face and draw attention to the eyes. Style this cut by brushing the hair smooth and combing a dollop of medium hold mousse through the underside to add volume. If you wish to move the bangs away from your face, use small hair clips to fasten them to the sides of your head.

How Should I Do My Hair For Gymnastics Practice

How Should I Do My Hair for Gymnastics Practice?

Gymnastics is a highly acrobatic sport. When considering hairstyles, the key is to keep it out of your face, as this can be distracting or even dangerous during practice. In competition, gymnasts can even have points deducted for brushing their hair away from their face. Depending on your hair type, there are any number of hairstyles you can try. Before you begin, invest in good quality hairspray, hair elastics and clips, as cheap imitations simply won't be up to the job. A nice touch is to use ribbons or accessories that match your leotard.

Long Hair

If you have long hair, you're in luck. There are any number of variations you can use to style your hair. The easiest and simplest style is the ponytail. First, give your hair a light spray with hair lacquer. Next, brush all of your hair back to one point on the back of your head. Secure together tightly with hair elastics, and give your hair another final spray with the hairspray, making sure any wispy bits are brushed back with the rest of the hair. Really long hair has the potential to whip back into your face during gymnastics moves, even when it's tied back into a ponytail. If this is the case, try braiding your ponytail and looping the braid back up on itself, securing the end to the base with another elastic.

Now onto French braids. These are a little more difficult and may require assistance from a friend or relative. However they are popular as they give more of a feminine look than a straight-up ponytail. First, divide your hair, using an imaginary line that stretches from the top of your left ear over your head to the top of your right ear. Taking the top section, divide this into three smaller sections, holding all three sections in your hands. Now, begin to braid the the hair, taking a little more hair from the bottom section each time you make a pass. Secure at the bottom with a hair elastic. For variation try double French braids, by dividing hair straight down the center and braiding each half of the hair individually.

Short Hair

Shorter haircuts have always been popular in gymnastics, as worn by superstars Mary Lou Retton and Svetlana Khorkina. If you have short hair, the trick is to keep it tamed so it doesn't fly around the place during practice. Experiment with different hair products such as gel, hairspray and mousse. It may take a few tries to get the balance right. A couple of hair clips or a headband can be used to hold back unruly strands around the face. For curly hair, try some mousse specifically for curly hair to define your curls and keep them from bouncing around.

Sharpen Dog Clippers

Dog owners need to have a variety of grooming accessories on hand to keep their pet healthy and clean. Dog clippers (also known as dog shears) are used to trim and manage a dog's fur. Proper trimming with dog clippers ensures that the animal is free of matted hair, and it also makes regular grooming easier. Occasionally, dog clippers may need to be sharpened. Learning do it will keep your pet looking his best.

Instructions

1. Lightly tap the dog clippers to shake out excess hair. Run the clippers under a heavy stream of water to rinse out the inner gears and clean out any fur that has collected over time. If you're using electric dog clippers, use a brush (such as an old toothbrush) to clean the blades. The difficulty in grooming your dog may arise because the shears need to be cleaned, not sharpened. Most home users should never need to have to sharpen their dog clippers unless the shears are used heavily, such as at an animal shelter or in a professional dog-grooming shop.

2. Contact a local dog-grooming salon. Get a reference for a professional clipper-sharpening service. Dog clippers need to be professionally serviced. You cannot sharpen dog clippers at home using traditional methods of blade sharpening (e.g. a knife sharpener). After dog clippers are sharpened, they also need to be adjusted and re-tightened to ensure that they will work efficiently.

3. Send the dog clippers to the professional sharpening service if you are using manual, scissor-like shears. If you use electric dog clippers, see Step 4 for sharpen them. Before choosing a dog-clipper sharpener for manual dog shears, get cost quotes from several service providers to determine which is the cheapest. Be sure to factor in the time it will take (some sharpeners can provide same-day service, while others may take weeks) and the cost of shipping if you are using an out-of-town sharpening service.

4. Call the original manufacturer of the dog clippers if you own electric clippers. Electric clippers often require blade replacements, which are available from the manufacturer or from a local parts supplier. Get a cost estimate. Also, consider simply ordering the new replacement part and replacing the dog-clipper blades yourself, rather than sending the entire dog clipper to the manufacturer for servicing.

5. Keep the dog-clipper blades sharp by never grooming a dirty dog or a dog with large amounts of dust or grime in his fur. The little pieces of debris can quickly dull the blades on your dog clipper.

The History Of The Electric Handheld Hair Dryer

Hair dryers were invented in 1890

Hair dryers are a common household good that nearly every woman owns. With the variety of models of technology available, there is an electric handheld hair dryer suitable for any hair type and price point. These machines have come a long way since their birth in the late 19th century.

Definition

The handheld hair dryer or blow dryer is used to dry and style hair. They are found in drugstores, salons and mass retailers all over the world at difference price points. The hair dryer works by blowing air across a heating coil, heating it up to blow on wet hair, which helps it to dry much faster than if it were air dried.

Origin

In 1890, Alexandre Godefoy invented the electric hot air-blast hair dryer. These early hair dryers were modeled after vacuum cleaners' warm exhaust. This initial hair drying device had a power cord and a hand crank.

1920s

Inventors developed portable, handheld blow dryers in the 1920s. They were made of steel and zinc, weighing more than two pounds. They did not dry hair very well because they only produced 100 watts of heat.

1950s

Handheld dryers that were lighter in weight and made of plastic finally became available in the 1950s. By the 1960s, they produced up to 500 watts of power improving the way hair was dried.

Safety

These early hairdryers were known to cause electrical shocks or short circuit if they came into contact of any water. In the 1970s, manufacturers improved the safety by adhering to the Consumer Products Safety Commission who recommended guidelines to produce safer hair drying machines.

1990s and Beyond

As smaller motors were developed over time, hair dryers continued to develop. By the 1990s, handheld electric hair dryers produced more than 1500 watts of heat and today can produce up to 2000 watts of heat. Hair dryers also became more lightweight with the improvement of plastic technology.

Hairstyles For Permed/Relaxed Hair

Hair can be an exciting, stylish accessory, but when women add formulas to their hair such as relaxer or perming agents, additional care must be taken to reduce breakage or there is the potential to kill the hair at the roots. This doesn't mean you cannot indulge in one of the many fun hairstyles available; in fact, there are pretty looks that are especially beneficial to treated hair. These styles may be created in a salon or at home, usually with a few products you may already have on hand.

Black Bob

Due to relaxed hair's fragility, it is recommended that you wash it only a few times a week and avoid harmful styling products such as curling irons or straighteners. The bob style is a great option for African-American women who have processed their hair, and it is fairly low-maintenance. After wetting hair, a styling product formulated for black, relaxed hair is worked in and then blown dry (use a low setting to avoid harming the hair). Once dry, you can shape the hair as desired. For a punk look, separate parts of the bob and apply gel for a piecey look.

Dreadlocks

Dreadlocks have lost their prior association of being a hippie/urban-only hairstyle. The style has become appropriate for the workplace and for musicians, actors, sports figures and just about anyone who has an interest in it. The benefit of dreadlocks for relaxed hair is that they can actually protect the hair due to their reduced need for styling. Relaxed hair has been treated heavily with chemicals; the dreadlocks style requires a washing only about every week or so, which will protect the chemicals from washing out or being affected by shampoo and conditioning products. Because of the way the hair is rolled into itself, dreadlocks will also protect relaxed hair from cold or heat and dust and dirt. Dreadlocks can be worn by both men and women with long or short hair (dreads can also be made as little bumps all along the top of the head for shorter hair).

Transition Braid

If you've had permed or relaxed hair for a while, you may be experiencing regrowth, where the new growth of hair doesn't match the longer parts. If you have straight hair, this could result in a portion of your hair growing in straight or wavy when the bottom is tightly curled. On the other hand, if your hair is naturally curly, it can grow in and not match the straightened or relaxed part. This situation can be resolved with a daily, temporary fix called the transition braid. To achieve it, wet your hair and apply an oil created for your hair type from root to tips. Next, braid your hair back and secure it with a band or pretty clip to match your outfit. (For shorter hair, after applying the oil, work a thick mousse into the hair and then comb it straight back from your head so that there is less difference in the hair from the top of your head to the ends.) Eventually, you can decide whether to have a stylist cut the permed or relaxed hair or match the new growth to the bottom part.

Hair Ideas For The Middle Aged

Women of all ages can wear any length hairstyle.

A common misconception was that a woman over a certain age should wear her hair short. While a short cut may be flattering, it is not the only option for today's older woman. Hairstyles range from pixie cuts to long layers, with some cuts falling in the mid-length bob category. When looking for a hair idea for a woman over 40, several options are available.

Short-Length

If you have shorter hair, a bob cut gives you a more coiffed, put-together appearance. Don't shy away from bangs. Bangs accentuate and frame beautiful eyes regardless of age. Bangs also cleverly disguise lines on the forehead. For a sexy bob cut, use a deep side part with bangs that fall right above the eye for that peek-a-boo look. As you get older, hair tends to get thinner. A layered or cropped short cut adds volume. For the middle-aged woman with a slight edge, add jagged layers to your cropped 'do. Add a red rinse or go platinum blond to showcase your true personality.

Medium-Length

A mid-length layered bob is one option for those older women looking for an easy-to-do everyday style. Add a little color to cover the grays or showcase your timeless beauty by playing it up with gray streaks. For a more fashion forward cut, go for a blunt bob. With this style, the hair is cut one length. Blunt bangs are cut straight across, midway between the hair line and the eye. For special occasions, wear your medium-length hair wavy. Add some sophistication by parting the hair on the side. For thin hair, add volume with layers cut in the back.

Longer-Length

Everyday casual hairstyles for longer-length hair include the half up 'do. To do this, gather the top half of the hair. Secure it with a hair piece. Leave the back free flowing. To create a cascading curl look and to add volume, curl the hair with rollers or a curling iron first. Then proceed to secure the top half with a decorative hair piece. Wear your longer hair in layers for a softer formal style. Side-swept bangs are an option for a flirty hairstyle. Go casual with a ponytail or go formal with a curly pinned up 'do.

Other Ideas

Flip up medium-length hair at the edges for a flirty style for any formal or informal event. If you're uncomfortable coloring the full head of hair, go with highlights. Don't cover up grays. Accentuate them with highlights. Stylist use razors for cuts that frame the face. Razor-cut hair is an option for mature women because it tends to elongate the neck and detract attention from facial wrinkles.

Troubleshoot Conair Hc221s

Electric Hair Clippers

The Conair HC221 haircut kit is a 23-piece electric hair clipper set that allows you to administer professional-style haircuts at home. Its array of parts and features, however, means that these clippers require careful maintenance. Even with regular care, you occasionally might experience problems with your clippers that the instruction manual may not deal with. Fortunately, most advice on troubleshooting hair clippers applies to the Conair HC221 model.

Instructions

1. Take the clippers apart if you cannot locate the source of the problem. Inspect each part to determine the source of the issue. If a part has come loose or needs to be readjusted, you might be able to fix it by disassembling and reassembling the clippers. Sometimes a loose screw can stop the clippers from working until it is tightened.

2. Remove any leftover hairs lingering on the blades or inside the clippers. Built-up stray hairs inside the clippers can cause problems. Use a small brush, such as a leftover toothbrush, or a tissue to remove the hairs.

3. Remove any rust on the clippers with rubbing alcohol. Apply vigorously onto the blades with a cleaning cloth until the rust disappears.

4. Oil the blades. It's best to keep the blades well-oiled before, during and after use. Conair includes a specially formulated oil with the HC221 set, and recommends using only this oil on the blades for best performance. Apply oil to the front and sides of the blade and wipe off the excess with a cloth. Turn the clipper on for one minute to work the oil through the blade and teeth of the clippers.
