Trim Boys Hair

Home hair cuts will save you money.

Trimming a young boy's hair is not difficult and requires only a few basic supplies. Doing home haircuts will save you money and time. You may be nervous at first, but doing a basic trim is not hard, and your son's hair may look so attractive that your friends, neighbors and relatives may ask you to cut their sons' hair. Guidelines exist in trimming a boy's hair, but once you are familiar with them and see the satisfactory results, you may never go back to a salon.

Instructions

1. Write down the measurements of your son's hair cut once you return from the salon. Stand a ruler up on the top of his head and hold a crown hair section against the ruler. Also, notate how much space is between the ear and the cut and at the nape of his neck.

2. Mark the measurements on a fine toothed comb with a permanent marker. You can use the comb as a measuring tool when cutting the hair.

3. Drape the towels around the boy's shoulder and secure it near the front of his neck with the safety pin or clothespin.

4. Use a spray bottle filled with water to dampen the hair; this will make it easier to manage during the cut.

5. Comb the hair into his usual style. Hair will shrink ¼ to ½ inch when it is dry, so keep this in mind when cutting. It is better for the trim to be too long, than too short.

6. Start at the crown and pull a small section of hair straight up with your fingers. Use the comb as a ruler and cut any hair that extends beyond your previous measurements.

7. Repeat this step until the crown is completely trimmed, then move to the sides of the head above the ear area. Again, use the measurements on your scissors to trim the hair in this area.

8. Brush the hair forward to create bangs and trim them at the appropriate level, which is usually slightly above the eyebrows.

9. Trim the nape area in the same fashion, remembering to trim small sections at a time to avoid the cut looking too blunt.

10. Dry the hair and style as normal, trimming any uneven ends with the scissors.
