Hairstyles For Halloween

Say Happy Halloween with a tricked out hairstyle.

While costume choices for Halloween are endless, one option is to go with what you already have -- your hair. Because hair is an incredibly versatile accessory, theme it in a Halloween hairstyle for a total treat.

Frankenstein's Bride

Dr. Frankenstein's green monster is one of the most recognizable icons of Halloween, but it's the Bride of Frankenstein who really gets things hair-raising. The bride's sky-high hair is jet black with a white streak. If you have medium or long hair you can create the Bride of Frankenstein look without buying any accessories. The style is ideal for dark hair, but a can of temporary gothic black spray works well for lighter-haired revelers. Blow dry hair with your head upside down -- don't use any products to control frizz, as the more out of control the hair, the better it will appear. Work a comb or brush from the root to the tip. As hair dries, apply a mousse or gel, pulling gently so hair stands up straight. Once hair is in an upraised, bushy bride look, spray it black as necessary and add a white painted spray stripe up one side or both to complete the look.

Deadly Dreads

Committing to putting hair into dreadlocks -- clumps of twisted and bunched hair -- can be a long-term and painful process as hair is yanked and pulled into place. With proper care, dreads may be worn for weeks or longer, but if you want the reggae Rasta look for just one Halloween night, create temporary dreadlocks with specialty hair wax. Determine whether to do thick clump dreads or tiny "baby" dreads. Smaller or thinner dreads will take more time to create. Coat both your palms with wax, grab a section of hair, smooth your hands down from root to tip and twist the section of hair into a twirl. Aim a blow dryer at the dreadlock until the wax is dried and the dread is in place. Prepare to spend lots of time washing the wax out after Halloween, with warm water, shampoo and plenty of conditioner.

Awesome Anime

Step out of your favorite cartoon or manga comic and become an anime star by styling your hair like a cartoon character. Anime, the Japanese style of artistry that has led to "Spirited Away," "Dragonball Z" and "Pokemon," offers a way to play dress up with a funky style ideal for Halloween. Anime character hair is often spiked up or in huge, poofy ponytails. Anime characters often have exciting hair color such as bright blue or neon pink. Party supply shops and Halloween stores sell canned hair spray in multiple colors.
