Hairstyles For Dates

Date Hair-Dos and Don'ts

Finding the right hairstyle for a date can be a challenge. You want your hair to look its best, but still be soft and touchable, whether it is long or short. It should also be appropriate to the occasion--the hairstyle you wear out to a formal dinner probably isn't right for a day at an amusement park. Try these easy, comfortable and sexy styles for any occasion and you're sure to keep your date's eyes on you.

Casual Dates

Whether it's a ball game, a trip to the park or a day at the lake, choose fun, relaxed looks for your date. While you want to look cute, your hair should be low maintenance and hold up for an active day. If you have long hair, apply a bit of volumizer and pull your hair into a casual ponytail, wrapping the elastic with a length of hair. Pull out a few pieces near your face and flat iron them with a slight bend to the ends. Add a headband or not, depending on your preference. If you're out for the day in warm weather, add small clips or a headband to keep your hair off your face and looking cute from the time you leave until you kiss your date good night.

A Bit Dressier

Choose a slightly more polished look for a day in the city or an evening out. Keep your hair soft and touchable by choosing styling products that won't leave it hard or sticky. Use rollers, a curling iron or a flat iron to add soft, loose curls to your hair for a date if your hair is medium length or longer. If you want to wear your hair up, keep the look soft and easy rather than carefully styled. Flip the ends of short hair with a curling iron or flat iron for a polished but playful look. Add a bit of shine enhancer to make your hair irresistible.

All Dressed Up

While touchable hair is the goal for a more casual or romantic occasion, if you need your hair to hold up for a formal evening, hard core styling products may be in order. Plan to wear long hair up, but do choose a style that works with your dress. A polished french twist or chignon is a classic look for a cocktail party, but softer curled updos are a pretty choice if you would like a more romantic look or something to flatter a softer dress.

Simple updos can work on shorter hair, as long as it is chin length or longer, for formal occasions. Very short hair can be dressed up with pincurls, jeweled bobby pins or an elegant headband. Whatever the length of your hair, hairspray is your friend for formal dates. Spray your style and tuck a small brush and a few extra pins in your handbag for touch ups if needed.
