Seal Moisture In Short Relaxed Hair

Sealing moisture into your short relaxed hair will ensure its health.

Women with short, relaxed hair, especially African American women, find sealing moisture into their hair at least once a week, if not every three days, necessary. If moisture isn't frequently sealed into relaxed hair, the hair is dry, may easily break and will lack movement. If you desire to relax your short hair, regularly conditioning it and sealing in moisture is a definite must.

Instructions

1. Wash your hair as you normally do with shampoo. Whether you lather once -- or lather, rinse and repeat -- is up to your personal preference. Rinse your hair thoroughly.

2. Pour some of the natural oil -- a pool about the size of a quarter -- into the palm of your non-writing hand. Rub your hands together to distribute the oil onto both hands and your fingers.

3. Massage the oil on your hands and fingers into your hair. Ensure you have applied oil to the hair on your scalp to the ends of your hair. If you don't have enough oil for this application, pour more oil into your hand. Apply this extra oil to the missed areas.

4. Comb your hair with the wide-toothed comb, to ensure the oil is evenly distributed throughout your hair. Divide your hair into four quarters using the comb. These quarters will include: the front left quarter, the front right quarter, the back left quarter and the back right quarter.

5. Pour more oil, about the size of a dime, into your off hand, as you did in Step 2. Apply this oil to the front left quarter of your hair. Repeat this process, applying oil to each quarter of your hair.

6. Place the shower cap on your head. Set your dryer to its medium setting. If you have a hooded dryer, sit under the dryer for 20 to 30 minutes. If your dryer isn't hooded, use the dryer as you would normally for about 20 to 30 minutes. The heat from your dryer will cause your hair cuticles to expand, allowing the oil to become deeply infused in your hair.

7. Remove the shower cap. Style your hair as you normally would.
