Maintain A Mohawk Hairstyle

Mohawks are often dyed bright colors.

Made popular by 1980s punk rock bands, the Mohawk is a hairstyle in which the sides of the head are shaved and the center portion is spiked into an upright position with hair gel and hair spray. Both men and women wear Mohawks. Often, Mohawked hair is dyed a bright color such as green, blue, or pink. Mohawks can be short or long, depending on the amount of time the person wants to put into spiking it. A Mohawk can require quite a bit of maintenance and care.

Instructions

1. Keep the sides of your head clean-shaven. One of the most important aspects of the Mohawk is creating a distinct line between the shaved parts of the head and the long hair, worn in spikes. Shaving the sides of the head at least twice a week with an electric razor will help to keep the Mohawk looking fresh.

2. Brush the long portion of the hair regularly. Because the Mohawk hairstyle requires a large amount of styling product, such as mousse and gel, it is important to wash and brush the long part of the hair at least once a day. This will prevent the Mohawk from becoming matted or tangled and will keep styling time to a minimum.

3. Spike the hair upwards with a strong gel after washing and drying the hair. To do this, tilt the head downwards, place a large amount of styling gel on both palms, press the hair between your hands and run your palms toward the ends of the hair. Use several coats of gel.

4. Twist the hair in sections around your fingers to form spikes rather than pressing it in between your palmsi f you want to wear your Mohawk in distinct spikes rather than in one formation.

5. Spray the Mohawk with several layers of extra-strong-hold hair spray to keep the hair in place.

6. Respray the Mohawk with hair spray three or four times a day to ensure that it stays standing up. If a part of the Mohawk begins to sag, use a small amount of hair gel to stand it back up.
