Kids Hairstyles For Pageants

There are many hairstyle options for a kid's beauty pageant.

Beauty pageants can be an exciting event for young girls, but also require a lot of planning and preparation. Choosing the right hairstyle is important for your child to look her best. Planning your daughter's hairstyle helps you estimate how much time you will need to prepare before a pageant. Practicing a few hairstyles at home will give you the opportunity to know what styles work best for your child's hair so you can be prepared when it's time for a competition.

Curling the Hair

Curling your child's hair gives you plenty of options to create an interesting and beautiful hairstyle for a pageant. A good way to begin a pageant hairstyle is to curl the hair with hot rollers or a curling iron. For thick hair, curl the hair in smaller sections around the head. Once the hair is curled, you can play with different designs. Try pulling back the top and sides on top of the head, then lightly back-comb underneath the hair. Smooth the top layer, and pin the hair in place. This will give a little poof to the top of the head. Leave a few tendrils on each side, and curl the tendrils again if necessary.

Adding Accessories

Hair accessories can really make your daughter's style stand out during competition. While it's not a good idea to add too many accessories, the well-placed bow or flower can accentuate her dress. Once you have half of your child's curled hair pulled back, try adding some flowers or a crystal bow to hide the pins holding the hair. A small satin bow that matches her dress might be a good option for a more subtle embellishment. To create volume or length, consider using hair extensions. Make sure any hair accessories you use are secured well with pins to prevent your child from losing them on stage during competition.

Up-do Hairstyles

A beautiful up-do style is a good way to transition into a different portion of the beauty pageant. If your child starts a pageant with long curls, it can be relatively easy to create an up-do quickly later on the competition. Twist the hair in sections and pin them on top of the head securely. You can leave small tendrils or not, depending on your preference. Accessories can also be added to an up-do style, just be sure it is secured with pins and don't forget to use hairspray to keep the style in place. Once the hair is secured on top of the head, arrange the curls with your fingertips as needed or touch them up with the curling iron. An up-do is a beautiful style to bring attention to your child's smile, as well as display a tiara or crown.

Hairstyles for Talent Events

If your child is participating in a talent showcase during a pageant, you may want to consider a different hairstyle. A traditional up-do may not hold if your child's talent is a physical activity such as dancing. An easy way to make a nice hairstyle for a talent competition is to bring all the curled hair into a ponytail. From a simple ponytail, you can make several hairstyles. A high ponytail with curls is simple and pretty, and will not interfere with the talent display. A low ponytail at the base of the neck is another option, which can lay down her back or swing over one shoulder. To keep hair away from the face, braid a high ponytail and wrap it around itself into a bun. Secure the bun with pins and add accessories as desired.
