Design Freedom is a line of alkaline-based perms manufactured by New York-based beauty company Zotos International. It is ideal for those with normal to resistant straight hair who want to give their hair a little more body. The product's formulation makes it very flexible, allowing it to create either soft, natural looking curls or firmer, structured curls. The perm also contains natural grapefruit acids which help lock the curls and add shine to the hair. Design Freedom can be bought at most beauty supply stores and can be used at home.
Instructions
1. Gently shampoo your hair using either a clarifying or chelating shampoo. This will strip the hair of dirt and excess oil in preparation for the perm.
2. Towel dry your hair thoroughly. Your hair should still be damp, but not dripping wet.
3. Separate hair into sections. The size and number of sections depends on how big or small you want your curls. Just make sure that there are enough rods in the perm kit to wrap each section around.
4. Carefully wrap each section of hair around one of the provided rods. Make sure that the hair is smoothly wrapped and that the rods are secure so that they don't fall out while you apply the perm lotion. If the hair starts to dry while you are wrapping it, lightly mist it with water if you want to do the "water wrap" technique to create soft curls. If you are going for more defined curls, use the "lotion wrap" technique and moisten the hair with a little bit of the perm lotion.
5. Place a thin, cotton headband around your hairline and a towel around your neck to prevent the perm lotion from falling on to your clothes and skin.
6. Puncture the tip of the perm lotion package with the provided T-pin and saturate each rod of hair with a generous amount of the lotion.
7. Remove the headband and then place the provided plastic cap on your head.
8. Wait 20 minutes if you are using the water wrap technique to create soft, natural curls. Wait 10 minutes if you are using the lotion wrap technique to create firmer, more defined curls.
9. Remove the plastic cap and rinse the hair thoroughly with warm water for at least five minutes with the rods still in place.
10. Towel dry each rod individually and then blot the entire head with paper towel to soak up any excess moisture.
11. Shake the provided package of neutralizer and then open it using the T-pin. Thoroughly saturate each rod of hair with the solution. Save about 1/2 ounce of the neutralizer for later use. Wait 5 minutes for the neutralizer to set.
12. Gently remove the rods and then massage the remainder of the neutralizer through hair for about a minute.
13. Rinse hair thoroughly for about 3 to 5 minutes with cool water, until all the neutralizer is rinsed out, and then towel dry.
