Giving a professional manicure takes some practice.
Well-manicured hands add to overall grooming. A French manicure is a classic style of manicure that looks good on long and short nails, and appeals to all age groups. Standard manicure materials and supplies, plus some practice, are all that is needed to give a professional French manicure in either a salon setting, or at home.
Instructions
1. Remove any old nail polish using cotton pads or cotton balls and nail polish remover. Add some mild liquid soap to a bowl of warm water and soak the fingers of both hands in the water for about five minutes. Pat the hands dry with a towel. To add an extra professional look to the manicure, you could exfoliate the hands as well, as this removes dead skin and gives the skin a more youthful appearance.
2. File the nails using the fine side of the emery board. Only file in one direction, as filing in both directions ruins the nail and leads to cracked, broken nails. For a natural-looking shape, follow the finger shape. Some women prefer square-tipped nails, particularly if the nails are long. To achieve this look, file a straight line along the top and slightly round off the corners.
3. Push back the cuticles. Apply cuticle remover to each nail and leave for a minute or two to let the cuticles soften. Use a cuticle stick to push the cuticles back. Rubber-tipped sticks are kinder to the nail than wood or plastic ones. Wipe away the bits of cuticle with a pad. You may need to remove some bits of cuticle with a small nail clipper. Massage the hands with hand cream. The nails are now prepared for painting.
4. Place the hands flat on a level surface to keep them steady. Apply a coat of clear nail polish. Allow this coat to dry. This takes roughly five minutes. Now apply the white tip to the nail. Use the shape of the nail tip as a guide and follow it, covering the white part of the nail. Square-tipped nails are slightly easier, as you only need to paint a straight line across the top of the nail. Allow the white polish to dry thoroughly, as you don't want to smudge it when applying the final coat.
5. Finish off the manicure with a coat of clear pink nail polish. Allow this coat to dry and then apply another. Once this has dried, you can apply a final coat of clear polish. The final coat adds extra shine and also protects the manicure.
