Kids Hairstyles For Pageants

There are many hairstyle options for a kid's beauty pageant.

Beauty pageants can be an exciting event for young girls, but also require a lot of planning and preparation. Choosing the right hairstyle is important for your child to look her best. Planning your daughter's hairstyle helps you estimate how much time you will need to prepare before a pageant. Practicing a few hairstyles at home will give you the opportunity to know what styles work best for your child's hair so you can be prepared when it's time for a competition.

Curling the Hair

Curling your child's hair gives you plenty of options to create an interesting and beautiful hairstyle for a pageant. A good way to begin a pageant hairstyle is to curl the hair with hot rollers or a curling iron. For thick hair, curl the hair in smaller sections around the head. Once the hair is curled, you can play with different designs. Try pulling back the top and sides on top of the head, then lightly back-comb underneath the hair. Smooth the top layer, and pin the hair in place. This will give a little poof to the top of the head. Leave a few tendrils on each side, and curl the tendrils again if necessary.

Adding Accessories

Hair accessories can really make your daughter's style stand out during competition. While it's not a good idea to add too many accessories, the well-placed bow or flower can accentuate her dress. Once you have half of your child's curled hair pulled back, try adding some flowers or a crystal bow to hide the pins holding the hair. A small satin bow that matches her dress might be a good option for a more subtle embellishment. To create volume or length, consider using hair extensions. Make sure any hair accessories you use are secured well with pins to prevent your child from losing them on stage during competition.

Up-do Hairstyles

A beautiful up-do style is a good way to transition into a different portion of the beauty pageant. If your child starts a pageant with long curls, it can be relatively easy to create an up-do quickly later on the competition. Twist the hair in sections and pin them on top of the head securely. You can leave small tendrils or not, depending on your preference. Accessories can also be added to an up-do style, just be sure it is secured with pins and don't forget to use hairspray to keep the style in place. Once the hair is secured on top of the head, arrange the curls with your fingertips as needed or touch them up with the curling iron. An up-do is a beautiful style to bring attention to your child's smile, as well as display a tiara or crown.

Hairstyles for Talent Events

If your child is participating in a talent showcase during a pageant, you may want to consider a different hairstyle. A traditional up-do may not hold if your child's talent is a physical activity such as dancing. An easy way to make a nice hairstyle for a talent competition is to bring all the curled hair into a ponytail. From a simple ponytail, you can make several hairstyles. A high ponytail with curls is simple and pretty, and will not interfere with the talent display. A low ponytail at the base of the neck is another option, which can lay down her back or swing over one shoulder. To keep hair away from the face, braid a high ponytail and wrap it around itself into a bun. Secure the bun with pins and add accessories as desired.

What Do You Need For Wireless Internet

What Do You Need for Wireless Internet?

Getting connected to wireless Internet service can seem confusing, but it's really quite simple. Most Internet service providers will work very hard to help you get connected. If you've purchased a laptop or desktop computer within the last five years, chances are you have most of what you need. In many cases, your Internet service provider will supply the rest.

Types

There are three basic types of wireless Internet service. One is hot spot service, which is available in specified locations. Another common type of wireless Internet is satellite service. You can also get mobile Internet access on your laptop through your cellular telephone provider.

Features

You can access hot spot Internet service at remote locations such as bookstores, coffee shops and copy centers. You can get this type of Internet connection either as a stand-alone service or as a feature of your high-speed wired Internet connection. You will need a laptop with a wireless network card in order to connect to the hot spot. Many laptops come with this card already installed. If your laptop doesn't have a wireless card, take it in to a professional for an upgrade. When you get satellite service, your Internet service provider (ISP) will put a satellite dish on the roof of your home. Your ISP will also install any modems and cables that you need. This service will connect you to a satellite that's in orbit. A cellular laptop card is required to connect to the Internet using your mobile phone service. In most cases, your provider will give you the card when you sign up for the service. In most cases, this will install in the PCMCIA card slot on the side of your laptop. This is a rectangular slot that's about 2 inches long and ½ inch tall.

Function

Most wireless services will work with your existing computer. However, if your computer is five years or older, you may want to upgrade or replace it. You must be near a mobile hot spot in order to access the Internet there. The service may be inconvenient unless you visit your local merchants, hotels and airports frequently. Also, there are many free wireless hot spots in most major cities, so paying for this service may be unnecessary. Satellite service is typically only good in your home. Cellular Internet service, on the other hand, works wherever you can get a mobile phone signal.

Benefits

Cellular Internet service is very useful if you need to access the Internet in odd locations where you ordinarily couldn't connect. Hot spot service is best if you often visit specific locations where the service is available. In some cases, if you upgrade your DSL service, you will get hot spot wireless service for free. Satellite service is best if high-speed DSL or cable Internet service isn't available in your area.

Considerations

Satellite Internet service is very expensive in comparison to other services, both wired and wireless. If your Internet access needs are light, and your area doesn't have DSL or cable service, consider getting dial-up service instead. Also, check your local library or municipal government to see if they provide free wi-fi access before indulging in expensive hot spot service. Since your provider will probably give you everything you need to connect, your main responsibility is to maintain your computer and keep it Internet-ready. Make sure that you have the most recent version of your web browser installed on your computer. Keep a firewall active at all times. Also install virus software and keep it updated.

Girls' Hairstyles Of The '80s

Extreme amounts of hairspray were used in the '80s.

Woman's hair during the '80s screamed volume and lots of it. The more volume that girls could pump into their hair, the more it was admired. Some hairstyles were influenced by pop culture icons like Cyndi Lauper and Madonna. Take a glimpse at some of the unforgettable hairstyles frequently worn by girls in the '80s.

Perms

Most women had to have a perm during the '80s, as it was hard to achieve the type of volume that hair trends called for without some salon assistance. Hair was manipulated into tight spiral curls with harsh chemicals. These strong chemicals made hair frizzier, dryer and coarse, which made backcombing easier. Perms were popular with just about any length of hair. Girls with short hair would leave length at the top and have it permed and teased while keeping the rest of it short.

Crimping

Textured hair was a big thing during the '80s. A crimping iron with two metal plates that interlocked was used to crimp hair. Hair was placed into the heated plates and the result was even waves similar to the result of taking your hair out of small braids. Crimped hair was often gathered into a voluminous ponytail and secured with a hair scrunchie that matched the rest of the girl's outfit. Crimped ponytails were also teased so they would be as frizzy and as large as possible.

Ponytails

Tight ponytails were a good way for girls to get attention. Ponytails were not worn in a traditional way (centered in the back of the head), and instead were worn in unusual placements. A popular ponytail was one worn to either side of the head that was positioned right above the top of the ear or aligned right behind it. Ponytails were often teased and curled to achieve maximum volume. For girls who had short hair, hair was gathered up and secured with a ponytail holder. The hair was then teased and sprayed so it would fan out like a fountain. These ponytail looks were often worn with a tight ponytail holder along with a matching scrunchie.

Extreme Bangs

Girls in the '80s often spent hours in the mirror backcombing their bangs until they reached as high as possible. Girls would use hot curling irons or hot rollers to curl hair off the forehead. Then round hairbrushes along with a blow dryer was used to tease bangs until they were inches off the scalp. Bangs were secured in place with tons of hairspray. These tall, bizarre bangs were worn with hair that was down or in a side ponytail.

How Soon Color Your Hair After A Spiral Perm

Spiral perms use vertical perm rods to create cascading ringlets in medium to long hair. Curls last through washing and styling until the hair grows out to its natural state. Because perms use a chemical solution to make the curls permanent, use caution when treating permed hair with chemical hair dyes.

General Guidelines

Always have your hair permed first before you color it. Don't perm your hair within two to three weeks after coloring your hair. Freshly colored hair may interfere with the permanent solution, causing your perm to fizzle or frizz. Don't chemically process (color or perm) hair that is very damaged, brittle or falling out. Do not color or perm your hair if your scalp is irritated or inflamed, since color and perm solution can cause more irritation.

Darkening

If you are darkening your hair after a perm, use a demi- or semi-permanent color the same day as your perm if your hair and scalp are in good condition, since darkening your color using a semi-permanent color is unlikely to damage your hair. Even though semi-permanent hair color says it lasts a few weeks, it may last longer on freshly permed hair because it will absorb more colorant, especially if you are using a shade darker than your natural color. If you are coloring your hair at home, perform a strand test as directed on the package because freshly permed hair may need less processing time than natural hair. Condition thoroughly after you color to prevent damage.

To darken hair with a permanent or ammonia-based hair color, wait at least 10 days after perming. Check hair for damage before coloring and perform a strand test to gauge processing time if you color at home. In the 10 days while waiting to color your hair, shampoo with moisturizing shampoo and use a deep conditioner beginning 24 to 48 hours after your perm. This will help prevent breakage that can be exacerbated with a colorant that contains ammonia.

Lightening

If you want to lighten or highlight your spiral curls, wait at least 10 days. Since the chemicals in perm solution can damage your hair in the same way bleach or peroxide can, you may weaken your hair to the point of splitting or breaking if you attempt to lighten it any sooner. Additionally, lightening solution may interfere with a fresh spiral perm, weakening or loosening your curls and ruining your perm investment.

Trim away damaged ends and condition hair thoroughly before and after coloring. Do not try to drastically lighten hair that has had a recent spiral perm. Start by lightening or highlighting hair only three to four shades lighter than your natural color. The harsh chemicals and long processing times required for drastic hair lightening may damage hair that has already been chemically processed.

If your hair has been damaged by the perm or is dry or brittle, ask your salon for a protein or conditioning treatment to improve its look and feel. Wait to highlight or lighten your hair until your hair's condition improves. Consider a shorter hairstyle or let your hair grow for a few months and give it a rest from chemical processes if you experience hair breakage or falling out. Only time and new growth can completely reverse damage created by too many chemical treatments. Consult a hair professional for advice on lightening damaged hair and do not attempt to lighten it yourself at home.

Make Beautiful Hairstyles

Use a round brush to detangle and style the hair.

When it comes to hairstyles, what is deemed a beautiful hairstyle varies from person to person. What is universal is that a beautiful hairstyle suits the face, outfit and look of the person wearing it. Which beautiful hairstyle to choose depends on the occasion; sometimes an elegant up-do is appropriate for a wedding or prom and often a beautiful style of soft, tousled waves does the trick. You can create a beautiful hairstyle that fits your look and skills.

Instructions

1. Create a sleek ponytail by brushing your hair until it is free of knots and straightening the hair using a straightening iron. Gather all of the hair using your hands or a brush at the crown of your head and wrap a hand tie around the hair, securing the ponytail. Add a little extra fizz to this hairstyle by adding fake flowers, jeweled clips or butterfly clips around the ponytail.

2. Curl all of the hair using a curling iron or a set of hot rollers. When the hair is curled, rake your fingers through the hair to create soft, flowing waves. Spray the hair lightly with hairspray, so the waves stay in place.

3. Create a classic French twist by gathering all of the hair together at the nape of the neck. Curl the hair around itself into a bun and push the entire bun into the hair to the left, while simultaneously moving the hair on the left over the bun. Secure the hair with hairpins and spray lightly with hair spray.

4. Create an elegant up-do style by brushing the hair to ensure there are no knots. Gather all of the hair in a ponytail at the crown of the head and secure the ponytail with a hair tie. Take small sections of hair and either curl them with a curling iron or roll the hair in hot rollers to create an entire ponytail of curls. Gather a few sections of curls and pin them to the hair around the ponytail. Leave the ends of the curls free. Continue curling and pinning until all of the hair is curled and pinned around the ponytail.

Fold Socks Military Style

The military has its own way of folding socks

The military imposes many different training methods on its cadets. The idea is to make the cadet more skilled on many levels. Along with training, cadets are expected to live and behave in an organized way, right down to how they fold their clothes. Even folding socks has its own set of instructions that have to be followed to meet military standards.

Instructions

1. Lay one sock on top of the other so that the toes are touching and the stencils are facing down. The tops of the socks should be facing away from you and the toes should be facing toward the left.

2. Fold the heels of the socks from the right of the sock to the left. The heels should be even with the left edge of the socks.

3. Fold the toes up and over the heels so that the toes are overlapping the heels. Turn the opening of the bottom sock and fold it over the top sock. Make sure the edges are even and roll up the bottom sock.

4. Roll the sock up tightly toward the top so that the roll is even with the tip of the toe. Fold back the remaining, unrolled part of the sock so that it encases the sock roll and holds it together.

5. Fold down the opening of the sock roll so that it reveals the stitching.

Design Freedom Perm Instructions

Design Freedom is a line of alkaline-based perms manufactured by New York-based beauty company Zotos International. It is ideal for those with normal to resistant straight hair who want to give their hair a little more body. The product's formulation makes it very flexible, allowing it to create either soft, natural looking curls or firmer, structured curls. The perm also contains natural grapefruit acids which help lock the curls and add shine to the hair. Design Freedom can be bought at most beauty supply stores and can be used at home.

Instructions

1. Gently shampoo your hair using either a clarifying or chelating shampoo. This will strip the hair of dirt and excess oil in preparation for the perm.

2. Towel dry your hair thoroughly. Your hair should still be damp, but not dripping wet.

3. Separate hair into sections. The size and number of sections depends on how big or small you want your curls. Just make sure that there are enough rods in the perm kit to wrap each section around.

4. Carefully wrap each section of hair around one of the provided rods. Make sure that the hair is smoothly wrapped and that the rods are secure so that they don't fall out while you apply the perm lotion. If the hair starts to dry while you are wrapping it, lightly mist it with water if you want to do the "water wrap" technique to create soft curls. If you are going for more defined curls, use the "lotion wrap" technique and moisten the hair with a little bit of the perm lotion.

5. Place a thin, cotton headband around your hairline and a towel around your neck to prevent the perm lotion from falling on to your clothes and skin.

6. Puncture the tip of the perm lotion package with the provided T-pin and saturate each rod of hair with a generous amount of the lotion.

7. Remove the headband and then place the provided plastic cap on your head.

8. Wait 20 minutes if you are using the water wrap technique to create soft, natural curls. Wait 10 minutes if you are using the lotion wrap technique to create firmer, more defined curls.

9. Remove the plastic cap and rinse the hair thoroughly with warm water for at least five minutes with the rods still in place.

10. Towel dry each rod individually and then blot the entire head with paper towel to soak up any excess moisture.

11. Shake the provided package of neutralizer and then open it using the T-pin. Thoroughly saturate each rod of hair with the solution. Save about 1/2 ounce of the neutralizer for later use. Wait 5 minutes for the neutralizer to set.

12. Gently remove the rods and then massage the remainder of the neutralizer through hair for about a minute.

13. Rinse hair thoroughly for about 3 to 5 minutes with cool water, until all the neutralizer is rinsed out, and then towel dry.

Japanese Anime Hairstyles For Men

Popular hairstyles in Japan are inspired by anime.

Japanese street fashion is known for its cutting-edge trendiness. Japanese anime in particular has influenced hairstyles among hip Japanese men. Along the streets of Tokyo, you'll be able to find many men sporting anime-inspired looks. Translating cartoon looks into real-life hairstyles is easy to do if you focus on a few key characteristics.

Choppy Layers

Anime-inspired hairstyles are medium-length and layered. Layers are often choppy and asymmetrical, making the look edgy for young men. To display the style's many layers, use a flat iron to straighten the entire head of hair, section by section. After straightening, apply a dime-sized amount of pomade or wax to the ends of the layers to create a spiky hairstyle reminiscent of anime action heroes. Running wax throughout the layers creates a messy anime look.

Long Bangs

Bangs are crucial to completing a Japanese anime hairstyle. In anime, characters often have their hair slightly covering the face, creating rebellious-looking bangs. These front layers can be straightened to sweep across the face or flipped back with wax to create dimension and volume.

Volume

Japanese anime characters often sport exaggerated looks, including large eyes and big hair. Big hair is created by cutting choppy layers and drying the hair with a blow dryer to create volume. Volume can also be created by teasing the crown and setting the look with volume-enhancing mouse or hairspray. The bigger the hair, the more exaggerated the anime look will be.

Bold Color

Highlights and streaks are also important when completing an anime hairstyle. While some men with anime hairstyles keep their hair black, others add bright streaks and chunky highlights to create a bold, exaggerated cartoon look. Blonde, blue and red are popular colors for streaks. These highlights are strategically placed throughout the hair, creating a multidimensional look.

Is There A Way To Remove A Relaxer From My Hair

If your hair is currently relaxed and you want to return it to its natural texture, you might wonder if there's a quick and painless way to remove the relaxer. In fact, there's only one surefire way to remove a relaxer from hair and it has nothing to do with any chemicals or hair products.

Relaxer Myths

Several stories commonly revolve around relaxer removal. Some people swear by washing detergent, vinegar or a milk and egg concoction. These are all myths and none of these solutions or mixtures will remove a relaxer from hair. A relaxer is a chemical process that contains sodium hydroxide or calcium hydroxide. These chemicals permanently break down the hair's bonds.

Relaxers Are Permanent

Relaxers are commonly referred to as perms; some women use these terms interchangeably. The reason is that relaxers are permanent. A relaxer straightens hair permanently and therefore cannot be removed. However, relaxers only affect the hair to which they are applied. As hair grows, the new growth will be its natural texture, so you can gradually grow a relaxer out.

Remove a Relaxer With Cutting

While there's no method that will strip a relaxer from hair, you can cut your relaxed hair off to remove it. Cutting is the only surefire way to remove relaxed hair.

Some women feel confident enough to cut all of their straightened hair off and leave only an inch or so of new growth. This is commonly referred to as "the big chop" in natural hair forums. The amount of new growth depends on how long it's been since hair was last relaxed. Because hair grows an average of a half inch per month, if it's been two months since your last relaxer, you'll have about one inch of new growth.

If you don't want to cut all of your relaxed hair away at once, you can trim it away over time. It will take much longer, and you'll have to deal with your relaxed hair in addition to your natural texture, which can be difficult. In addition, the line where the relaxed strands meets the new growth is particularly fragile and may break. If you choose to go this route of growing out your relaxer, you'll have to be extra careful with how you style and care for your hair. This includes cutting back on heat styling and using gentle curling methods such as wet sets.

Home Remedies For Color Treated Hair

Home Remedies for Color Treated Hair

Hair that is color-treated tends to become dull and loses some of the tint and shine over time. Keeping the hair conditioned and moist will help to maintain the color for as long as possible. There are some mixtures you can concoct at home in your own kitchen that will help you to keep your color-treated hair looking beautiful longer.

Vinegar

Use vinegar to eliminate buildup. Product or pollutant buildup on the hair can make the hair seem dry and dull. By removing the accumulation, you will reveal the underlying color which should be shinier and healthier in appearance. Mix one part vinegar with two parts water for best results. Use a spray bottle to saturate hair with the mixture after a shampoo. Comb through and leave in for at least five minutes for best results. Follow with a shampoo and conditioner.

Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise is one of the best products you have in your kitchen to help you keep your color-treated hair healthy and shiny. Mayonnaise contains protein from eggs and oils which help to nourish the scalp. It can be applied to the hair after a moisturizing shampoo and combed through using a wide toothed comb. Cover the head with a plastic bag or plastic wrap. Then, apply heat with a blow dryer or moist towels you have put in the microwave for about a minute. Leave on the head for 10 to 45 minutes. Remove, rinse and shampoo again. This will help close the cuticle of the hair and stop the color molecules from escaping. It will also deliver a shot of protein to strengthen and condition the hair.

Olive Oil

Olive oil is a great hair conditioner that will help your color to last longer and look more lustrous. Warm 1/16 of a cup of olive oil in the microwave for a few seconds. Apply to the scalp using a color applicator brush, or your fingers. Perform application on the more damaged areas first and then run the oil through the rest of the hair. Give the scalp a massage using your fingertips, applying moderate pressure to work the oil in and increase stimulation. This will give the hair a shine and make the color shimmer. It will also help to close the cuticle of the hair for a healthier glow.

Enhancing Blond Hair Color

To enhance blond hair color use chamomile tea. Brew 5 to 10 teabags in 3/4 of a cup of water. Let stand, or add four ice cubes, to cool the mixture. Add a teaspoon of lemon juice. Pour mixture into a water bottle and spray the hair until it is saturated. Cover the hair in plastic wrap, or a plastic cap, and allow it to sit for up to 30 minutes. For even brighter results, moisten a towel and heat it in the microwave, then wrap it around the head.

Enhancing Color for Brunettes

If your hair is very dark, use coffee as a color enhancer. Brew the coffee as you normally would and then let it cool. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and then spray the hair. Comb the coffee through until it is evenly distributed. Leave it on for fifteen to thirty minutes. Repeat if needed for richer results. Rinse and shampoo. Follow with a conditioner to lock in results.

Enhancing Color for Redheads

Both carrot juice and beet juice can be used for red hair as a dye enhancer. If you have more of an orange or strawberry-blond, reddish color, use carrot juice. For those with a deeper, more auburn red-tone, use beet juice. Purchase beet or carrot juice in a can or jar. Put into a spray bottle and spray on the hair until saturated. Cover the head in plastic wrap and leave in the hair for up to an hour. Apply heat by dampening a towel, heating it in the microwave for a minute or more if needed, and wrapping around the head to trap the heat. This will allow for deeper color penetration.

Is It Safe To Have A Manicure & Pedicure While Pregnant

Many pregnant women enjoy the pampering that a manicure and pedicure gives them.

Pregnancy is an exciting time in a woman's life, and a little extra pampering in the form of manicures and pedicures can make her feel relaxed and at ease during this special time. One concern many women have regarding such beauty treatments, however, is if they are safe to continue during pregnancy.

Manicures While Pregnant

Manicures have not been found to be harmful during pregnancy. According to Baby Center, there is little or no evidence that a pregnant woman's exposure to the chemicals involved in a manicure is harmful to the fetus. A basic manicure is safe, but you should not get acrylic nails while pregnant because the process produces strong chemical fumes, which should be avoided during your pregnancy.

Pedicures While Pregnant

According to Health Guidance, it is best to get permission from your doctor before regularly treating yourself to pedicures. Pedicures usually involve soaking your feet in very warm water, and certain temperatures should be avoided during pregnancy because your body temperature is higher. Ask the technician to use lukewarm water rather than hot water and hot wraps. Baby Center claims there is little evidence, however, that pedicures are harmful during pregnancy.

Chemicals

For the safety of her baby, a pregnant woman should avoid chemicals. Many salons that offer manicures and pedicures also apply acrylic nails and perform other beauty treatments involving chemicals, so choose a salon that is well-ventilated. The strong smell of chemicals can make a pregnant woman feel sick and they should be avoided.

Use Sanotint'S Hair Lightening Kit

Use Sanotint's Hair Lightening Kit

Sanotint's hair lightening kit is a mild, natural product that is extra gentle on your hair. The formula is made from golden millet and natural vegetable extracts and is completely peroxide and ammonia free. Sanotint's innovative formula dramatically reduces any sensitivity or allergy risks, and leaves your hair much softer and more manageable than any traditional hair lightening kit. As with any personal hair care product, it is imperative that you strictly follow the instructions to achieve the best results.

Instructions

1. Wash your hair with your regular shampoo to remove any oil, dirt or styling product buildup that may have collected in your hair. Skip the conditioner for now.

2. Pat your hair dry with a clean towel and allow it to dry completely before beginning the lightening process.

3. Empty one packet of the lightening agent into a plastic bowl or dish. Using metal will cause an unpleasant and dangerous chemical reaction, so be sure to use only glass or plastic when mixing the formula.

4. Pour the contents of one container of the activator into the bowl.

5. Stir the activator and lightening agent together thoroughly using a plastic or glass spatula, spoon or applicator brush.

6. Put the cap back on the empty applicator bottle and dispose of both it and the empty lightening agent packet. Though these elements need to be mixed together to be potent, they each may stain or cause other problems if left to drip on furniture or cabinets.

7. Allow the mixture to cure for a few minutes. Once the texture of the mix is smooth and no longer gritty, the formula is ready to use.

8. Apply the mixture to your dry hair with a plastic applicator brush. Be sure to cover the area completely, paying particular attention to the roots.

9. Let the mixture remain on your hair for up to 30 minutes depending on the shade you would like to achieve. Leaving it on for 10 minutes will bring your hair to a reddish hue. In 15 minutes, it will be orange, and in 20 minutes, yellow orange. Leaving it for the full 30 minutes will bring it to yellow or platinum.

10. Wash your hair completely with cool water, removing every trace of the lightening mixture.

11. Condition your hair with the restructuring balm provided in the kit to help prevent and repair any damage done to your hair through this bleaching process.

Crazy Hairstyles For Kids

Mohawks can be small or large and keep hair out of your eyes.

Crazy hairstyles can be temporary, such as braids reinforced with pipe cleaners to make them stand up and away from your head, or more permanent because of intricate cutting or shaving. Choose styles that suit your child's personality, such as Mohawks for outgoing children and Princess Leia buns for feminine girls. Crazy hair styles can be functional as well; some keep hair away from a child's face while others tame unruly hair.

Mohawks

Boys use hair gel to create Mohawks on the tops of their heads. While the style is informal, it is also functional; the gel keeps hair off the face and neck. Parents can even take it a step further and shave the sides of the child's head, making the Mohawk a more permanent style. As an alternative to Mohawks, some children create spikes of hair all over their heads.

Princess Leia

Princess Leia buns, worn by the main character in the "Star Wars" movies, are one way to creatively control a girl's long hair. Buns worn right above the ears, like Princess Leia's, are less common than buns worn in back. You can put a crazy twist on the style by pulling the ends of the hair out through the center to create what looks like feathers. Alternatively, place the buns in various locations instead of over the ears and create more than two buns.

Punk Hair

Add strands of color to your hair or attach fake, dyed hair underneath your natural hair for a punk look. Ratted, colored hair also creates a crazy punk style. Blow dry, rat and hairspray your child's colored hair so it stands up and away from his head. Punk and the more modern "emo" hairstyles don't follow rules; the crazier, the better.

Crazy Braids

Braids can be thick, thin, colorful and as crazy as you want. Make braids stand up by placing a pipe cleaner or two in the middle or thread a ribbon through the braid to give it extra color. Some crazy kid's hairstyles feature different colored braids, all bundled up into one big rainbow bun. Thick braids bundled into a scarf can even look like dreadlocks.

Hairstyles For Short Faces

Styling your bangs away from your forehead adds the illusion of length to a short face.

A short face, also known as a round face, is wide and curved. The best hairstyles for short faces maximize vertical space to provide the illusion of length. The key to creating length is to avoid covering your face or adding the look of width. That means heavy bangs, feathering and curls are out of the question.

Side-Part Pixie

A cropped pixie with side-parted bangs can make a short face seem longer, but only if you style it properly. A pixie consists of short, textured layers that follow the shape of the head. Thin medium-length bangs that sweep to each side of the forehead complement the cut without obscuring the area.

Styling a cropped pixie that complements a short face requires a root-lifting product, such as mousse, to give the crown area height and volume. A holding product, such as gel, helps keep bangs arched away from your forehead and to the sides. A dab of gel on the tips of each layer add a sharp accent to the look and keeps the hair sleek around the sides of your head.

Long Shag

A long, shaggy cut with bangs that tuck behind your ears give your face and neck the illusion of length. A long shag cut involves shoulder-length hair with chunky layers and layered long bangs. However, you need to avoid layers around the earlobe to chin area of your face or the cut will emphasize your short face area.

Styling the long shag requires parting the bangs on the side and sweeping them smoothly behind each ear. Mousse or gel around the crown area, behind the bangs, adds height to your head's outline to add the appearance of length. Leaving the tips of each layer straight and natural gives a soft touch to the style.

Casual Waves

Although heavy curls are unflattering on a short face, soft waves of long hair provide length and sensuality to the round area. The casual wave cut keeps the hair length to mid-back, with light bangs that end just below the cheekbone. Light layering preserves the cut's natural style and reduces the volume around the sides, creating a long line that appears to lengthen your face.

A casual, wavy cut can be styled in a variety of simple ways. Basic styling requires a smoothing product to help tame frizz and encourage soft waves. A holding product, such as hairspray, keeps all but a few wisps of your bangs swept to the sides of your forehead for a casual and thinning accent. You can also pull your hair up, leaving a few strands loose around your neck, and twist your hair into a high bun to create a fancy look that lengthens your face.

Formal Side Pony Hairstyles

The words "side ponytail" might harken images of teenagers of the 1980s, but side ponytails aren't just a relic of the past. In fact, they can be worn in an elegant, demure manner, if you know style your hair. There are a variety of styles utilizing a low side ponytail that you can wear to any formal event.

Chignon

A chignon is a hairstyle that closely resembles the bun, or when the hair is pulled into a knot. You can make an elegant side ponytail chignon by brushing your hair out and then pulling it to one side or the other. Simply twist your hair into a knot and secure it in place with bobby pins. Or, take strands of hair and loop them around your fingers and then secure the loops with bobby pins to create the illusion of short curls.

Low Side Ponytail

If you have long hair, you can simply part your hair and gather it to one side or the other for a casual, yet elegant side ponytail hairstyle. This style looks particularly good if you have side-swept bangs, which you can brush over your forehead to create a bit more of a complex look. Straighten your hair with a straightening iron for a silky smooth finish.

Braided Side Ponytail

Part your hair to one side or the other (depending on which side your hair looks best parted) and then gather it in a rubber band. Braid your hair and secure it with a rubber band. Take a piece of hair and pull from the top of the rubber band and then wrap it around the rubber band to conceal it. Secure it with a bobby pin.

Curly Side Ponytail

Part your hair on the side your part looks best. Use a comb to tease your hair at the crown to add a bit of volume and then gather your hair to one side or the other and place it into the rubber band. Using a curling iron, curl one- to two-inch sections of your ponytail at a time for a full ponytail.

Ways To Strip A Perm

A bad perm is easily remedied, in your own home or back at the salon.

If your hair does not take well to a perm, do not despair. A perm does not have to be permanent. While a bad perm can be damaging to your self-esteem, as well as the health of your hair, you can perform different procedures to regain your hair's natural texture and appearance.

Wash Your Hair

Whether you decide to do it yourself or commit back to the stylist, the first step in stripping your hair of a perm is always to wash it with regular shampoo and rinse with warm water. This will relax your hair and loosen the curls. If your hair is healthy, you should be able to begin the stripping process immediately after washing. If the hair seems damaged and dry, you may want to wait a week and apply a deep conditioner to restore your hair's natural health.

The Home Remedy

If you don't want to face your stylist again, you can easily perform the stripping procedure in your own home. After washing your hair with a clarifying shampoo and applying a moisturizing conditioner, you will need to wash it again with a special permanent wave product available at most stores or your salon. Put on gloves and apply the neutralizing shampoo, rinsing with warm water. Then apply some neutralizing conditioner. Rinse with warm water, followed by cool water. Pat your hair dry with a towel and then comb your hair carefully, working from the ends of your hair toward your scalp.

Back at the Salon

If you feel safer trusting a professional stylist, look for a salon specializing in perm reversal. The stylist will apply a chemical solution seemingly similar to the solution used when your perm was applied. The solution will be worked through with a comb as the curls are relaxed. The stylist can also advise you care for your hair after the procedure, as it is important to not to stress your hair with more chemicals for a period of several weeks after your perm has been reversed.

Aftercare and Alternative Hairstyles

Once you have stripped your hair of the perm, you still need to care for it. Because both the application of the permanent wave and the removal process use chemicals, your hair will need time to heal in order to return to its natural condition. It is important to use hydrating shampoo and conditioner at this time. You may even want to try leave-in conditioners to restore moisture to your damaged hair. Even without a perm, you can still use products like mousse and gel, a curling iron or a blow dryer to achieve a style of curl right for you.

Instructions To Sharpen Clipper Blades

If your clippers get dull, you need to sharpen them.

The more you use a pair of clippers to remove hair, the duller the blades will get. Eventually, the clippers won't cut the hair, but instead will rip out the hair, making the process uncomfortable. Instead of getting a new pair of clippers, you can just sharpen the clipper blades. This takes a little bit of a special technique, but you can do it in under an hour.

Instructions

1. Take off the top clipper blades from the end of the clipper using the Phillips-head screwdriver for the screws.

2. Hold the sharpening stone in your left hand. Hold the top clipper blades in your right hand. Slide the sharpening stone against the edge of the top clipper blade using gentle pressure. Work the stone over the blade a few times and then test for sharpness with a finger. Flip over the top clipper blade and repeat the process.

3. Work the edge of the clippers against the sharpening stone using the same method you used on the top clipper blade.

4. Turn on the clippers. Run the vibrating clippers over the sharpening stone for several minutes. Turn off the clippers. Soak a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol and rub the clipper blades and the top clipper blades with the alcohol.

5. Reinstall the top clipper blade to the clippers with the Phillips-head screwdriver. Wipe down the outside of the clippers using another cotton ball soaked in the rubbing alcohol.

Remove Ashy Permanent Hair Color

When going blond, it's important to find the right shade of blond for you.

Ash-blond hair is a medium-blond hair color with cool tones. When your new permanent ashy hair color doesn't look right with your skin tone, the best solution may be to remove the hair color. A hair stylist can use chemical processing at a salon but this method of dye removal is expensive and can be harsh on hair. Instead, you can remove most of the color yourself at home.

Instructions

1. Pour 1/4 cup of clarifying shampoo into a bowl and add 2 tsp. of clear dish washing detergent. Stir the two ingredients together to mix well.

2. Wet your hair and shampoo your hair with the dish washing detergent and shampoo combination. Suds up the shampoo thoroughly and be sure to scrub your hair from the roots to the ends. Allow the mixture to sit on your hair for two to three minutes.

3. Rinse your hair thoroughly under warm water to remove the shampoo and detergent mixture, as well as the hair color dye.

4. Apply a deep-conditioning cream or oil treatment to your hair. Cover your head with a plastic shower cap to keep the heat close to your head. Place a bath towel around your head and the shower cap and let the deep-conditioning treatment sit on your hair for 30 minutes.

5. Rinse hair well after conditioning.

Rinse away the deep conditioner and allow your hair to air-dry.

Feel Pretty While Pregnant

When you are pregnant, your body undergoes several different changes. Due to the changes in your body, especially as you and the baby grow bigger, you may begin to feel unattractive and big. Hormones don’t help with the emotions either. Pregnancy gives you the perfect reason to pamper yourself and make yourself feel pretty.

Instructions

1. Give yourself a manicure and pedicure. Remove your old nail polish with nail polish remover and let your hands and feet soak in containers of warm, soapy water. After a little while, push your cuticles back with a cuticle stick and rub some lotion on your hands and feet. Choose your favorite color nail polish and paint your fingernails and toenails.

2. Relax with a bath. Take a bubble bath with your favorite bubble bath scent or salts. Turn on some relaxing music and light some candles if you are in the mood. Sit back and enjoy the music.

3. Buy some new clothes. Buy a few new outfits, including a dress outfit and a casual outfit. The dress outfit can be a maternity dress or a maternity skirt and shirt. The casual outfit can consist of a few cute maternity tops and a pair of maternity jeans or capris. Save money by choosing items that are on sale and don’t go crazy buying too many things.

4. Go shoe shopping. During pregnancy, many women experience swollen ankles or feet, which can make shoes you own uncomfortable to wear. Go to your local shoe store or department store and pick out a pair of dress shoes (to go with your dress outfit) and a pair of comfortable shoes to go with your casual outfit. Save money by choosing shoes that are on sale.

5. Take a maternity exercise class. Exercise is great for your body, whether pregnant or not. With a maternity exercise class, you can get exercise and build friendships as well. You will enjoy being around other pregnant mothers who share similar feelings and experiences.

6. Get ready every morning. When you are pregnant, you get tired quickly and sometimes you just don’t feel like taking a shower and doing your hair and makeup in the morning. If you stick with the routine of showering, doing your hair, and doing your makeup in the mornings, you’ll feel much prettier throughout the day.

7. Get a haircut. Try something different and get a new haircut. Not only will it feel good to have someone wash your hair and massage your head, but you’ll leave with a new look as well. Be sure to speak up if you don’t like how the stylist is cutting your hair.

Get Celebrity Hairstyles

Many of the trends in haircuts and hairstyles have come straight from the heads of our favorite celebrities. The key to getting their looks is to have a good hairdresser and many reference photos. Ideally, to get the right cut and style, you should aim to find a photo of the cut or style from every angle possible, so that your hairdresser may analyze it before beginning to work on your own coif.

Instructions

1. Gather as many photos as you can from magazines and the Internet of the haircut or style you want.

2. Consider what you like about the hairstyle and what you don't. Is it the cut? The color? The way it's styled?

3. Consider how the hairstyle will look with your individual face shape and fashion sense.

4. Present the photos to your hairdresser and point out the elements of the hairdo that you like and those you don't. Ask for her opinion on what she would change to make the hairstyle fit your individual style, as well as your face shape.

5. Inquire about what products, if any, are needed to maintain this style on a daily basis. Decide if the commitment is worth it.

Make A Cinderella Dress

Many little girls dream of being a princess. The most popular of these princesses is Cinderella. Buying a Cinderella costume can be expensive. Plus, the materials they use are not very comfortable and they only come in children's sizes. When making your own dress, it can be comfortable, individualized, cost effective and can be made in any size you want. In the movie, Cinderella's dress is silver. However, in the Disney parks and all products, her dress is blue. It's up to you which dress you want to copy.

Instructions

1. Cut out a piece of fabric so that it is 3 inches wider than your waist at the top then slants down 45 to 60 inches wide at the bottom and is 36 inches long.

2. Sew the slanted edges of this piece together, right sides facing each other. Leave a 6-inch opening at the top for the zipper.

3. Hem the bottom of the skirt. Sew a gathering stitch at the top of the skirt and gather it until it is the size of your waist.

4. Cut out two rectangles of fabric for the hips of the skirt, each 20 inches wide and 40 inches long. Hem the one of the shorter sides and sew a gathering stitch on the longer sides. Gather the fabric up to the un-hemmed side so that it forms a half-moon shape.

5. Sew a half moon piece to each hip of the skirt.

6. Set the skirt aside and start on the bodice. Cut out two pieces of fabric that are half the width of your bust at the top, plus 2 inches for seam allowance and slants down to a bottom that is half the width of your waist, plus two inches for seam allowance. Add 5-inch straps to the top on each side.

7. Sew the two bodice pieces together, one directly on top of the other, right sides together. Leave an opening of about 4 inches at the bottom. Use this opening to turn the bodice right side out.

8. Cut the back of the bodice all the way open. Line up this cut with the slit at the top of the skirt and sew the two together, leaving the slit open. Sew the zipper in the space that the slit has provided.

9. Cut out two ovals of fabric that are each 6 inches wide and 12 inches long for the sleeves. Sew a gathering stitch along each long side of the ovals. Gather the fabric until it fits around your upper arm.

10. Sew one gathered edge to the arm hole and hem the other gathered edge. Repeat with the other arm hole and sleeve.

1920s Wedding Hairstyles

Create a special look reminiscent of the 1920s for your wedding day.

If you're having an old fashioned wedding representing the 1920s era, choose a hairstyle that is very typical of that time period. Women such as Clara Bow and Louise Brooks exemplified the glamor of the '20s with their flapper-style hairdos. Keep to the theme of a vintage wedding by going all out with a hairstyle that will bring back the Prohibition days.

The Bob

The most famous hairstyle of this era was the bob haircut. It's a very short, face-framing style that is shorter in back and angled on the front and sides. If you already have short hair and want to commit to this style, it is the style that most people associate with the 1920s with. You can wear a bob hair style wavy or straight, depending on your preference and natural hair texture. Both ways were popular during this time. You can also imitate a bob by pulling long hair back into a bun at the nape of the neck and framing the face by loosening the hair from around the face, making it appear that you have short hair.

Bangs

If you're not sure about making a drastic haircut decision for your wedding day, consider adding bangs to your already existing hairstyle or even purchasing some clip-in bangs. Most 1920s hairstyles incorporated bangs that were straight across the forehead and fairly short. Adding bangs could bring your look back to the 1920s without losing your existing look.

Clips and Bands

Women of the 1920s accessorized their hair quite a bit. Headbands were the most popular hair accessory, and women wore them around the head sweatband style, not on top of the head as most women do today. These headbands frequently had a feather or some other embellishment on them. You can also use an ornate sequin hair clip that has sparkly rhinestones or a flower design. Curl your hair in ringlet style curls and pin it back with a large satin bow or clip.

Use Egg Whites To Make A Mohawk Stiff

Getting stiff mohawk spikes is possible with egg whites.

Egg whites aren't just used for cooking and baking. Egg whites can be used to make mohawk spikes stand straight up. You could use commercial hair-styling products, or you can use your own recipe made with egg whites, which is inexpensive and eco-friendly for the environment and your hair. The best part is that you can make the mixture yourself and apply it anywhere you may happen to be when you need those pointy spikes to stand upright.

Instructions

1. Whisk two egg whites together. Add 1/8 tsp. cream of tartar to the mix, and keep whisking the egg whites rapidly until they are stiff.

2. Scoop up some egg whites, and rub both hands together to coat each one. Place your hands together with the hair on the top of the head in between them, and move your hands upward from the roots to the ends to coat the hair. Repeat this process until all the hair is coated. Wash and dry your hands when finished.

3. Bend over so the hair is hanging down. Turn a hair dryer on high heat. Hold the blow dryer in one hand, and pull downward on the hair with the other hand. Continue this process until all the egg whites are dry and stiff.

4. Stand up straight, and pull upward on any strands of hair that need a little extra drying time. Keep the hair dryer set on high.

Grade 8 Graduation Decorating Ideas

Use ideas that celebrate the transition to attending high school.

Graduation from the 8th grade is an important milestone for kids, parents and family members. It marks the long-anticipated entry to high school and being a teen. When planning a graduation party, use ideas that have more teen-oriented than child-centered decorations to celebrate the transition. Use themed decorations and party items that celebrate and honor this event for the 8th grade graduate.

New School Colors

Find out what high school the graduates will be attending for a large party. Make balloon bouquets for tabletops and big balloon arches for graduates to enter through into the main room for the party to symbolize their entry into high school life. If graduates are going to different schools, use the colors of the middle school for the main archway, and use colors of the various high schools for table decorations. For a smaller party hosted at home for family and friends your job will be easier because you can just focus on the colors of the high school the graduate will attend. Get plates and table wear that also bear the new school colors. If the school has a mascot, get stuffed animals or pictures of the mascot to decorate food tables. You can also make a life-size cutout of the mascot for the party room.

High School Sports

If the graduate is an avid sports fan or aspiring sports player, marching band or cheerleader, create a graduation theme around the team of the high school they will attend. Get news clippings and pictures of the sports stars and blow them up to use as table decorations and posters on the walls. Decorate the room in the high school colors decorate tables. If the school does not have a sports team, you can use college or professional teams that the student favors.

Mardi Gras Theme

Host a Mardi Gras theme graduation party to celebrate. Use traditional purple and green colors or choose colors that represent the high school the graduate will attend. Buy beads and feather masks for the guests and place them on tables as decorative items. Add extra glitter to the beads and masks for the guest of honor. Scatter beads on the main food table and serve Creole items such as Cajun chicken, seafood gumbo and jambalaya to complement the New Orleans style Mardi Gras theme.

Asian Theme

Use an Asian theme as a basis for inspiration. Decorate the room with colorful lanterns and Asian symbols. Make place mats that with the year's symbol from the Chinese zodiac. Serve Asian foods and decorate the serving table with colors like jade and cinnabar red. Get carryout style containers filled with fortune cookies for party favors. Create a special label with the graduate's name and graduation year. You can also use Asian-style type fonts to create a banner with the graduate's name and wishes of luck and fortune as they enter high school.

Instructions For Remington Twisters

Remington Twisters are used for curling hair. They are small clips placed in your hair to help add style with curls. Remington Twisters are an alternative to a hot curling iron. They are much more safe than a curling iron and can be used by women and children of all ages. There are only a few preparatory steps before you can use your Remington Twisters.

Instructions

1. Dry you hair thoroughly with a blow dryer if it is wet at all. Leave your hair alone if it is already dry. Heat up the Remington Twisters in their unit. Plug it in and secure the lid on top. Wait until their tails change from purple to pink.

2. Take one section of hair at a time beginning at the top of your head and wrap the ends of your hair neatly around the glittery portion of the roller.

3. Bend both ends of the roller and pull the tail through the second ridge of each eyelet until it holds the hair securely but is still comfortable.

4. Move on to the next section of your hair and repeat the same process. Continue around all of your hair until it is curled with the rollers. Leave the twisters in your hair for 15 minutes until the tail turns from pink back to purple. This signifies they are cool and the hair is set.

5. Slide the rail of the roller from the eyelet of any twister and carefully unroll it. Wait for your hair to cool down and comb it with your fingers or a wide-toothed comb. Place the rollers back in the tube for storage and unplug the heating unit upon completion.

Make Natural Kinky Hair Relax

Natural kinky hair can be quite difficult to manage because the curls are extremely tight, coiled and springy. Most people with naturally kinky hair want a no-hassle way to maintain it. The solution is a hair texturizer which can be used to loosen the kinky curls or straighten them out. As a result, natural kinky hair becomes relaxed and easier to style. A hair texturizer can be applied at home, and usually lasts a few months until new growth comes in.

Instructions

1. Wash and condition your hair. Towel dry the hair to remove excess water.

2. Separate the hair into four sections with hair clips. Place a large towel over your shoulders to protect your skin.

3. Apply the hair texturizer with the applicator brush. Make sure to coat every strand. Once you're done applying the texturizer to one section, undo the clips and continue applying until all the hair is covered. Comb the texturizer through each strand if you want a straighter look.

4. Cover your hair with a shower cap, and wait until the texturizer has processed. Check the instructions on your kit to determine how long to leave the texturizer on.

5. Rinse off the texturizer with warm water. Towel dry your hair, then apply the neutralizer for the allotted time (usually 10 minutes). Thoroughly rinse off the neutralizer, and then style your hair as usual.

Maintain A Mohawk Hairstyle

Mohawks are often dyed bright colors.

Made popular by 1980s punk rock bands, the Mohawk is a hairstyle in which the sides of the head are shaved and the center portion is spiked into an upright position with hair gel and hair spray. Both men and women wear Mohawks. Often, Mohawked hair is dyed a bright color such as green, blue, or pink. Mohawks can be short or long, depending on the amount of time the person wants to put into spiking it. A Mohawk can require quite a bit of maintenance and care.

Instructions

1. Keep the sides of your head clean-shaven. One of the most important aspects of the Mohawk is creating a distinct line between the shaved parts of the head and the long hair, worn in spikes. Shaving the sides of the head at least twice a week with an electric razor will help to keep the Mohawk looking fresh.

2. Brush the long portion of the hair regularly. Because the Mohawk hairstyle requires a large amount of styling product, such as mousse and gel, it is important to wash and brush the long part of the hair at least once a day. This will prevent the Mohawk from becoming matted or tangled and will keep styling time to a minimum.

3. Spike the hair upwards with a strong gel after washing and drying the hair. To do this, tilt the head downwards, place a large amount of styling gel on both palms, press the hair between your hands and run your palms toward the ends of the hair. Use several coats of gel.

4. Twist the hair in sections around your fingers to form spikes rather than pressing it in between your palmsi f you want to wear your Mohawk in distinct spikes rather than in one formation.

5. Spray the Mohawk with several layers of extra-strong-hold hair spray to keep the hair in place.

6. Respray the Mohawk with hair spray three or four times a day to ensure that it stays standing up. If a part of the Mohawk begins to sag, use a small amount of hair gel to stand it back up.

Short Hair Prom Styles

Prom Hairdo

Your short hair says a lot about your energy, approach to life and singular look. It's you. But at prom time, isn't it mandatory to have long, flowing locks? Your short hair can look great on prom night. Resist the temptation to add hair for this special occasion. Wear your short hair and be prom-beautiful.

Halle Berry

Short hair requires a fresh cut to look polished. Ideally, hair should be more than simply cut. It should be sheared into a short hairstyle, a hairdo. There are a number of hairstyles that are not only look fabulous on prom night but also the next day when you really need a good cut to fall back on.

Halle Berry's short haircut was once known as a pixie style. With its short spikes and random waves, the pixie is a cut that demonstrates the skilled hand of a professional. Naturally curly hair works well with a pixie cut, but even straight hair can be cut in this style. Using a mousse or gel can help hair stay spiky during the heat and happening of prom night.

Posh's Bob

Posh Spice aka Victoria Beckham wears her hair in short asymmetrical cut. This look is so cool right now. The sleek, tousled finish with long picky bangs makes a huge statement on prom night. Posh has a reputation for her unparalleled sense of style in fashion and celebrity circles.

Wearing Posh's hair will give you some of those qualities the night of the prom. Posh's hair isn't very thick. That's the beauty of it. With thick hair like Kate Gosselin's of Jon & Kate Plus 8, this bob hairdo looks good, too, but surprisingly, it looks better with Posh's hair weight and texture. So for you girls who thought you needed long hair at prom, wear it short and wear it proud.

Katie Holmes

Underneath Katie Holmes' short sexy hairstyle is a great cut. Katie's bob is asymmetrical like Posh's but offers even more versatility. Katie's bob can be worn with big full bangs, or off the forehead altogether or a side part. With its tousled look to loose curls, this style worn on prom night would give you some of Katie's energy and pluck. Prom time might be the time you see a really good professional for a highly sculpted haircut like Katie's.

Hairbow Directions

Make a hair bow to coordinate with an outfit.

Save money and make yourself, or a little girl in your life, a hair bow. These adorable bows are simple to make and easily customized with your favorite color or two. Hair bows make wonderful gifts for weddings attendants, flower girls, a new baby, a birthday girl or a daily headpiece for that special little one. The design make take some time to master, however, once you get the hang of the hair bow, you can experiment with different ribbon sizes and add accessories such as flowers.

Instructions

1. Unroll 3-inches of ribbon from the spool and make a loop.

2. Pull another 3-inches of ribbon and make another loop. The loop will be next to the first loop, at a 90 degree angle. Continue to pinch the center of the bow to hold the loops in place.

3. Make another 3-inch loop directly across from the first loop. Pinch the ribbon to hold the loop then make a fourth 3-inch loop to fill the gap between the first and third loop.

4. Pinch the center of the hair bow and wrap it with craft wire, separating two loops on either side of the wire wrap. The wire will hold the loops in place so you can release your pinch. Trim the craft wire with the needle nose pliers.

5. Cut the end of the ribbon at an angle and tuck it behind the bow. At this point, you can add ribbon to the back of the bow if you want loose strands of ribbon cascading down from the bow. Simply cut strands of ribbon and secure the ends to the back of the bow with hot glue.

6. Place a dab of hot glue on the back of the ribbon and press the bow onto the barrette clip. Hold until the glue has cooled.

7. Cut a 5-inch piece of ribbon and wrap it around the center of the bow to cover the wire and further secure the bow to the barrette. The ribbon should fit through the area just over the barrette's tension prong. Do not wrap ribbon over the clip that opens and closes.

8. Tie the ribbon in a secure knot and move the knot to the back of the bow so the front center is smooth. Trim any excess ribbon and place a small dab of glue in the knot to secure the center ribbon.

Short Haircuts For Older Women

Short haircuts do not have to be boring or plain. Older women may prefer the convenience and more professional look of a shorter hairstyle. Curly or straight, there are many options. Consider a perm if you have healthy hair. If you already perm and color frequently, give your hair a break and condition deeply before experimenting with a sleek, short hairdo that will allow healthy hair to grow back in.

Modern Shag

Consider an updated version of the classic '70s shag as seen on Mrs. Brady of the TV show "The Brady Bunch." While Mrs. Brady wore what we might consider a mullet version, you can have a shag with full bangs, cut above the ears to frame your face and kept thick in the back for a feminine look. Think Victoria Beckham.

Straight shags can be layered to show off thick hair. Curly shags can be left slightly longer to allow the weight of the hair to help prevent too tight a curl. Use a round brush when blow-drying to give your hair the fullness and volume for a modern shag.

Pixie

Sixties British model Twiggy made the pixie haircut whimsical. Her short 'do was thick and cut symmetrically. You can get a modern pixie that has well-trimmed bangs and even sideburns, or have one side cut slightly longer for an asymmetrical look that can still be worn to the office. Pixie haircuts are low-maintenance but require regular trims every six to eight weeks. Use styling gel to slick back stray hairs.

Go Curly

Perm or use your natural curl to your advantage. A round face can benefit from a curly hairstyle that is cut closer around the fullness of the cheekbones and thicker in the back. Oval-shaped faces can sustain a longer curly cut or one that is cut more closely to the head. Have a long face? Keep your curly haircut to the level of your chin to prevent looking too thin in the face. Side-part hair and use a round diffuser attachment when blow-drying hair and dry hair only until barely dry. After shampooing, add styling gel, finger fluff and let air dry.

Instructions For Cutting Men'S Hair With A Clipper & Guards

Giving a good quick haircut on a guy can be easy to learn and perform with a decent set of hair clippers and guards. Clippers refer to the electric tool that features a cutting edge at the end for shearing off hair similar to an electric razor. These clippers usually come with a set of guards, which slip over the clipper and allow you to shave hair to certain lengths, depending on the number assigned to the guard. Learning the proper technique to using these tools is relatively easy.

Basics

Guards are assigned numbers to indicate what length of hair they keep the clippers from cutting off. On a standard set of guards, from No. 1 (1/8 inch) to No. 8 (1 inch), the length increases by 1/8-inch increments. No. 2 is 1/4 inch, No. 3 is 3/8 inch, No. 4 is 1/2 inch of hair behind. Because clippers essentially create a buzzed effect with the hair, they are used in conjunction with guards in one of two ways to give a clean and quick haircut.

First, shave all the hair to the same length both along the sides and the top of the head for a true buzz cut appearance. For this method, decide on the length and attach the appropriate guard to the clippers. Make sure the hair is completely dry, as it should always be when using electric clippers. Wet hair will clog the guard and the blades and, unlike when using scissors, will detract from the quality of the cut. Start at the bottom of the head and work in strokes going upward. Keep the guard and, by extension, the clipper blade flat against the head, using short smooth strokes that glide along the shape of the head. Don't force the clippers. Instead, let the cutting motion guide them through the hair. This will allow you to minimize jerky movements and you'll get a cleaner cut all one length with fewer strokes. You may need to go back over some parts of the hair along the more extreme curvature of the head. Remember to always work from bottom to top along all the sides, as if each stroke is ultimately going to end in the center of the top of the head.

Tapered Cut

Alternatively, there is a method to get a more blended crew-cut appearance using clippers with a guard as well. This requires some slower going and more control with the clippers than the buzzing method. Essentially, the goal is to leave a thicker amount of hair along the upper areas of the head than along the very bottom, creating an appearance of the lengths blending together as you go up the head. To do this, start with the appropriate guard affixed to the clippers and begin at the bottom of the head, again on dry hair. Start with the guard flat against the head. As you slowly move up in the head toward the top in one smooth stroke, begin to bring the guard away from the head some. This will increase the amount of hair left slowly, so that it gradually gets thicker toward the top. The key in this method is to match the increasing thickness with all the strokes all the way around the head.

Instructions For Civil Warera Ribbon Hair Nets

A snood completes Victorian costume, making it seem like you have more hair than you do.

Hairstyles can be the most difficult part of historical costumes to get authentic. Even if your hair is not long enough to make a convincing and elaborate bun, wearing a snood over the back of your hair can give the illusion of much more hair. A snood has the same basic shape as a beret, set back on the head, and drawn up around the head using a wide ribbon. Crochet an openwork snood from narrow ribbon, for an impressively authentic look.

Instructions

1. Chain 6. Join with slip stitch to form a ring. Chain 1.

2. Work two single crochet (sc) in each chain around. Join last sc to beginning stitch. Chain 2.

3. Work 6 double crochet in next sc, making a shell stitch. Double crochet in next 2 stitches. Repeat these two sets around and join. Chain 4.

4. Single crochet in top of next shell stitch. Chain 4, double crochet in space between two double crochets, then chain 4. Repeat these two sets around and join. Chain 2.

5. Repeat the patterns of rounds 3 and 4, spacing shell stitches out farther and farther and making a loop of four chain stitches across a notch between loops and landing it to the next loop, using a single crochet. Continue until you have a disk 9 inches or so across.

6. Continue with loops only for another 3 inches, and tie off the end. Thread the grosgrain through the loops made in the last two rounds. Tuck your hair into the snood and draw up the grosgrain around your ears to tie it in a bow at the top of your head.

Instructions For Bun Hairstyles

The bun is a classic style that can be worn in a variety of ways. Whether you're getting ready for an elegant night on the town or want a hairstyle to complement casual Friday, there's always a variation of the bun that can polish off any look.

Classic and Elegant

This bun style is ideal for medium to long hair. You can decide to show a part or comb all of your hair straight back. For a true classic style, either part your hair down the center of your scalp or comb it straight back. For a more contemporary twist, part your hair on the side of your scalp.

Once you've decided, create a horizontal part from ear to ear across the back of your scalp, creating a bottom and top section of hair. Secure the top section of hair (use pins if necessary) so that you can wrap the bottom section of hair around, securing it with pins, creating the "foundation" of the bun. The top section of hair should be protruding like a ponytail. Grab more pins and start securing the loose hair evenly around the foundation. Secure hair until there are no loose ends and the bun is in place. Top off with some hairspray for hold and you're ready to go.

This kind of bun will look elegant at the base, middle or on the upper scalp; it just depends on your preference.

The Messy Bun

This is the perfect hairstyle for the mornings when you've slept through your alarm and you're sprinting out the door, but you still need to have some kind of semblance about you. It takes a couple of tries to perfect the imperfection of this style, but once you get it, you'll have a dependable staple in your hair arsenal.

Flip your head upside down and tousle your hair, then flip your hair back up and secure it in a loose, but not too loose (you'll want your hair to stay secure through the day), ponytail with your hand. Grab a hair tie, preferably clear or the color of your hair and wrap once around the base of the ponytail. Pull the loose hair through the hair tie, folding the pony in half and repeat until all hair is secured. The bun should have lots of loose ends, distributed just so, and look stylishly disheveled. Throw on a pair of silver hoops and some mascara and you'll leave the house looking super urban chic.

Low Side Bun

This is a modern twist on a classic staple and works best with long hair. Sweep all of your hair into one low ponytail situated under either your left or your right ear and secure with a hair tie. Twist the ponytail all the way to the end and start wrapping around, securing with pins as you see fit while you go along. To balance out the bun, consider leaving a couple of tendrils of hair loose on the opposite side. Spray down with some hairspray and accessorize with your favorite hair clip.

Roll Short Hair For A Perm

Small rollers are needed to roll short hair for a perm.

Rolling short hair for a perm is similar to rolling long hair, except you must adjust the size of the roller. Smaller rollers will help you achieve a curl pattern that is ideal for shorter hair. Medium size rollers can also help achieve a looser, wavy pattern on short hair. Magnetic rollers require the use of clips to hold them close to your scalp. However, Easy Curls notes that Velcro rollers "are good choices for short or fine hair and hair that breaks easily, since they don't need to be clipped in place."

Instructions

1. Shampoo and prepare your hair as directed in the instructions of the permanent wave kit.

2. Wrap a towel around your shoulders to protect your clothes, floors and counter tops from the perming products.

3. Use a comb to section your hair into at least three sections. Make the front of your hair one section. Then section the back of your hair in to two separate sections. Make sure the sections are equal in size so that the curl pattern is consistent.

Place hair clips in each section.

4. Start in the front and continue to the other sections. Make smaller sections that are the same width of a small or medium roller.

5. Place a roller at the tip of a small section of your hair. Roll the hair around the rollers and pull it toward your scalp. When the roller covers all of your hair and reaches the scalp place a clip in the roller to hold it in place.

6. Repeat placing the rollers throughout the sections of your hair.

7. Cover your hands with plastic gloves. Follow the directions on the permanent wave kit to distribute the perming solution, neutralizer and conditioner in your hair.

Spiral Rod Instructions

Spiral perm rods are the best choice for long hair.

Spiral perm rods can be used for perms on long hair. The rods work best on individuals with hair that is shoulder length or longer. These rods are long plastic tubes of various lengths and dimensions. The hair is wrapped around the rod and the ends are fastened together with a hook or plug, to form a circle. Use of these rods for longer hair is preferred over the use of normal curlers, as it reduces the amount of curls needed to wrap hair and decreases the weight that must be supported by the customer during the perming process.

Instructions

1. Rinse your hair in a sink with warm water. Gently massage shampoo through the hair starting at the scalp and working your way down the length of the hair until the tip of the hair is reached. Rinse the hair again, to remove all of the shampoo. Gently squeeze excess moisture from the hair with a towel.

2. Comb all of the hair, until all of the knots and tangles are resolved.

3. Comb all hair towards the top and front of the head and secure with hair clips.

4. Loosen the hair clips, until you can create a section of hair that is twice the width of your spiral perm rod. The section should run horizontally around the base of the head. Secure all of the remaining hair with the hair clips.

5. Gather a one- to two-inch wide section of the parted hair and comb it straight. Position the spiral rod perpendicular to the end of the hair section and wind the hair around the rod clockwise, until all of the section is wrapped. Fold the spiral perm rod in half and secure with the hook, to form a circle. Repeat this process, until all of the hair in the section has been wrapped.

6. Repeat step 4 and 5 on sections of hair moving towards the top of the crown, until all of the hair is wrapped.

7. Remove each of the rods by unhooking the ends and gently unwinding the hair in a counter-clockwise direction.

What Is Semiformal Dress Code

What Is Semi-Formal Dress Code?

Choosing appropriate clothing for a party or reception and dance can sometimes be tricky. Because of all the different designations such as formal, white-tie, business casual or semi-formal, you need to know what kind of clothing and/or accessories are appropriate for each level of formality. Understanding which is which will help you avoid embarrassment.

Women

When you receive an invitation to an event which specifies semi-formal, this means a cocktail-length (knee-length) or long dress. You have to wear sheer hosiery. Leave the business pumps at home and put on the dressy pumps. You can accessorize with tasteful jewelry.

Men

Men wear suits to semi-formal events. The suit should be a good-quality dark suit with a dark tie and white shirt. You should wear dark socks and black shoes.

Occasions

Semi-formal events are holiday parties, weddings and dance/receptions. The annual office Christmas party can often be designated as a semi-formal occasion.

Types

Semi-formal attire can also be called "holiday" or "cocktail" attire. Sometimes, formal Christmas parties fall into this category.

Options

You do have options available which you can choose, depending on the time of day or the actual event. If the wedding or party takes place during daytime hours, men can wear a light-colored suit with a brighter-colored shirt and tie. Women can choose to wear a dressy pant suit, rather than a long dress or cocktail dress.

Get The Odor Of Vinegar Out Of My Hair

How Do I Get the Odor of Vinegar Out of My Hair?

Vinegar has numerous uses around the house as a cleaner and deodorizer and can also do wonders for the hair. It has been used traditionally to make hair lustrous and silky by cleaning away residue from other hair products. It also helps remove tangles and fights dandruff while limiting dryness. Vinegar may leave an odor in the hair, but there are a number of ways to remedy the problem.

Clove Bud Essential Oil

Add about five drops of clove bud essential oil to a 16-oz mixture of vinegar and water rinse to help overcome the smell of vinegar.

Chamomile Tea

Mix chamomile tea into the vinegar rinse to help subdue the smell of vinegar. The chamomile tea is a good treatment for the hair, too. To prepare the rinse, add about 1 tbsp. of vinegar to 1 pint of tea.

Witch Hazel

Witch hazel also helps to erase the smell of vinegar from hair.

Herbs

Infusing the vinegar with herbs, such as rosemary or mint, can help to mask the smell of the vinegar. In a covered glass container mix equal parts of vinegar, water and dried herbs. Leave the container in a sunny window for a week or two before straining and using the liquid as a hair rinse.

Sweet Plum Vinegar

Using scented vinegars, such as sweet plum vinegar, can be a better option than regular vinegar in order to deal with the problem of lingering vinegar odor.

Hairstyles With Banana Clips

Hairstyling

The banana clip is a type of hair accessory that is slightly curved and has two comb teeth ends that secure together. The banana clip can serve a number of purposes, but this clip's most common application is securing "up do" hairstyles. The banana clip can take time to master, but the visually appealing results that it creates are often worth the effort.

Ponytail

Ponytails are a common hairstyle for keeping hair up and out of the face, but many hair rubber band styles can be harsh on the hair and can tug on the scalp. A banana clip can be substituted for a typical ponytail holder. Pull the hair back to the middle of the back of the head. The hair can be temporarily pinned or clipped in place if needed. Once all of the hair is held securely at the back of the head, insert the banana clip from the bottom, sliding it up until all of the hair is enveloped, then pull the two ends closed and secure at the top. The banana clip will create the same ponytail look with more volume and flair.

Classic Updo

This is the hairstyle that banana clips are most commonly used for. Pull the hair back out of the face and hold at the back of the head with hand or pins. Slide the banana clip from the bottom up in the open position until the hair is pulled up to the top of the head, close the clip and secure it at the top. The purpose of this hairstyle is to pull the hair up and back while still allowing it to fall naturally. The classic updo is best for medium to long hair that is curly or wavy.

French Twist

The French twist is a classic updo hairstyle that you can create using a banana clip. Create a loose ponytail and twist it in a clockwise direction. Pull the ponytail up so that the tip of the hair is facing upward, then fold the ponytail in half and tuck the ends of the hair in. Roll the folded ponytail in one direction to create a tight twist. Secure with bobby pins, then slide the banana clip in from the bottom. Secure the banana clip in place, holding the classic French twist hairstyle in a tighter and more secure fashion.
