Everyone desires healthy, luxurious hair. Unfortunately, all of the chemical relaxing, coloring, and perming services our hair often endures in the name of beauty can cause irreparable chemical damage over time. This repetitive damage can easily begin to take a toll on our hair's health and appearance. Once hair has been damaged, it cannot be physically repaired. Temporary cosmetic fixes can, however, be used to improve the look and appearance of hair. Protein treatments can help temporarily seal damaged and broken areas of a hair shaft.
Instructions
Repair Chemically Damaged Hair
1. Gently cleanse your scalp and hair with a thick, creamy moisturizing shampoo to remove any dirt and debris. Lather your hair, rinse thoroughly, and repeat.
2. Apply a protein reconstructor product to the hair, focusing on the ends of the hair. Leave the product on your hair for 10-15 minutes and rinse. Protein reconstructors contain proteins that bind to the hair shaft and temporarily help seal and repair damage that has occurred along the length of the cuticle.
3. Apply a moisturizing conditioner product to soften and nourish the hair after reconstructing with protein. Again, especially apply the conditioner to the ends of your hair.
4. Cover your conditioner-soaked hair with a plastic shower cap to prepare for intense deep conditioning.
5. Sit under a warm hair dryer for 20-30 minutes. The heat will help facilitate maximum penetration of your conditioning product.
6. Remove the shower cap and allow your hair to cool. Thoroughly rinse the conditioner product from your hair.
7. Apply a leave-in conditioner product to your hair and disentangle your hair gently.
8. Allow your hair to air dry to prevent further damage from heat appliances. Style your hair as desired.
9. Repeat steps 1-8 for approximately 2 weeks. At the third and fourth weeks, skip step 2 (the protein reconstructor conditioner).
