Razor bumps caused by shaving can be irritating and painful. Razor bumps and ingrown hairs, otherwise known as pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB) are caused by curly hair that's cut and grows back into the skin or hair that's cut too short and grows into the skin. The resulting bumps can be very annoying, especially on a shaved head. Try a few techniques to prevent these annoying bumps and keep your head smooth.
Instructions
1. Shave after taking a shower, which helps moisten and loosen hair follicles, making them easier to shave.
2. Use a moisturizing shaving cream. Place the cream on your head and allow it to sit for at least two minutes before you begin shaving.
3. Only use a single-blade razor. Double, triple or quadruple blade razors encourage pulling of the hair follicles, which will cause them to fall backward into the scalp.
4. Shave your head in the direction of the hair growth, not against it.
5. Allow your skin to remain loose when it is being shaved. Never tug or pull on the skin. This will encourage your hair to grow into the skin.
6. Do not shave the same area more than two times.
7. Never use a dull blade. This will cause the hair to come off the scalp unevenly.
8. Place depilatory cream on your scalp to remove hair instead of shaving. These creams will melt the hair from your skin, and will not cause hair to be cut too short, which will lead to ingrown follicles.
