Homecoming is a very important occasion for high school students. If you are going to your school's homecoming dance, you're probably planning what to wear, what type of transportation you'll use, who to go with and do your hair. Of course, you could always consult a stylist and pay someone to do your hair the day of the dance, but you can also learn to do it yourself at home. Homecoming dances are usually formal, so you'll need to learn to do formal hairstyles that work with your hair length, cut and color.

Short Hairstyle
1. Wash your hair and dry it completely. Tease the back of your hair from the crown to the nape of your neck.
2. Dip your fingers into some hair wax and work it into the back of your hair. Separate the hair into spiky chunks with your fingers.
3. Use a fine-tooth comb to pull a section of your bangs (about an inch back) over to one side. Secure it with a hair pin. Use a hairpin that matches or complements your attire.
Long Hairstyle
4. Place your hair in large curlers a few hours before you are leaving. Section your hair into one-inch wide layers about 1/8 inch thick, apply volumizing gel, and roll them so that they lay vertically (to make spirals) on your head.
5. Spray your hair with a setting spray and allow the curlers to sit in your hair for at least 45 minutes to an hour.
6. Remove the curlers gently and use your fingers to separate and style them. Do not use a brush or comb, because your hair may frizz.

7. Apply hair gel to your hair by rubbing it in with your hands. Apply it lightly,and use about a quarter-sized amount to start. Increase the amount if needed to cover your hair. Do not use so much that your hair looks greasy or wet.
8. Comb the sides and back of your hair down smoothly. If your hair is longer, sweep the ends to the back of your head by combing down and back.
9. Make the top part about two inches to either side. Sweep your hair out away from the part, and then back as the comb reaches the tips of your hair. Finish the style with a light misting of finishing spray.
